Could you possibly do a spring assisted start and/or return somewhat similar to a switchblade? Just enough to help get the momentum started in either direction to ease some of the strain on your servos?

  • @xEternalSaltx

I understand having to put it on the back burner for now, but I am very excited to see the finished project. Maybe you should start the design process over and see if there might be an easier way to assemble everything. now that you have assembled your first version you have knowledge of how the parts interact, of which you didn't before! Happy Days Mate.

Is it possible that the servos aren't getting enough power from your AA battery pack, because it can not supply enough amps? As far as I know even one of these servos can easily consume more than 2.5 Amps. Maybe you should measure the supply voltage while extending the arm and try again with a better power supply/battery.

I wonder if you could just use bike cable guide tubes instead of those rollers, there would be more resistance but you would never have to worry about them jumping off and it'd be a whole lot simpler. The cable stretching could probably be worked around by just using a limit switch to detect when the blade has been drawn all the way back, that way even if the length changed dramatically over time it would never accumulate slack. a spring assisted release would also probably help a lot, considering how much the servo struggles to lift the blade. The project seems really cool so far, I hope you return to it eventually

Use wire instead of string and just drill a hole on each side of where it needs clear, add a cover over the wire so it doesn’t rub anything. You could even use something as simple as a pen cut in half to run the wire thru. Just an idea and as all ideas go it could still not pan out

  • @idiotsandwich7528

What if you have the blade under spring tension that wants to launch itself frontwards and it will be recoiled back using some motor that rilles it back by string like a fishing line? This is just an idea to try to make it as simple as possible. But hey, love ya content, put this project on pause if you want and continue with the other stuff first that you have in plan. Have a nice day Man!

Use the servos or a motor to retract the blade instead of propel the blade. Haven't looked far into this game or weapon but if you used springs and a sear system then it would function but not be as pleasing to the eye or arm

string is too elastic and easily kinks up, try picture hanging wire. like people use for hanging large photo frames. it is very strong steel wire and is flexible enough to do what you need without stretching.

I love this project. But it does make sense to put this on the back burner until you can really get it working. Would it be possible to add some sort of block and tackle setup to the servo so it reduces the strain on it when moving? That way you could keep a smaller servo for the project. Or another option some how link two servos together to increase there pulling capacity? Then either use a third servo to move the blade? Just some thoughts!

Cyberpunk 2077 looked great, turned out to be a massive disappointment.
Mantis Blades build looked great, turned out to be a massive pain in the ass.
I see a pattern emerging. Though much of these issues are probably related to the drive system- Pretty sure the "real ones" are hydraulic, not driven by electric motors.
