Keep doing ads if it’s products you believe in, it helps people make the correct decisions for their cars, and anyone that doesn’t like it can just skip that part. But it benefits you, helps people that were looking for a similar product, and helps these other companies that you genuinely trust. I wanna talk shit (in a playful way) about the onX sweatshirt while saying all this, but honestly so many channels ruin their content with too many sponsored videos, I am glad to see you making this move. Letting us naturally see the products in action is so much more impactful than hearing a sales pitch in the middle of a video or seeing 15 clips of the same product that is positioned just perfectly so you can see the label.
lol I definitely thought about that. My wardrobe is made up of sponsors clothes now. And this hoody is hands down the most comfy and warmest one I have. I do totally see the irony though. And yeah I completely agree. I’m leery excited to make this move and not have to worry about all that anymore
hey a good comfy hoody is worth its weight in gold! OnX has a good product too though I prefer Gaia just slightly, but I subscribe to both. Truthfully I’ll watch you content either way because I’m in Oregon and you are relatively close so it’s always fun to see places I could get to without a multi day drive before I even start the trip
I want to thank you. I’ve been going through some tough times, mentally, here in the UK. I found your channel and realised that I was escaping into the relaxing atmosphere of your adventures. I lost myself in the Pacific Northwest with you the first time, a place I’ve always wanted to visit in the fall. I felt a weight lifted off me. So I’ve asked some friends if I can visit in 2025. You already do great edits so looking forward to seeing how you grow with even more focus on this. The shorter videos are fun to watch on my phone when I get a break, but the adventure vids are the ones that inspire to pack up one of my rigs and head out. I noticed you kept correcting yourself in this video when you would say “I’m going to” and would immediately rephrase it as “I am.” You clearly know how to make change happen. 2025 is going to be a great year! Being from the PNW also, my wife and I have spent many hours watching your videos. There hasn’t been one that we didn’t completely enjoy! Keep up the good work and do what you are comfortable with. Like many others have said, I haven’t been unhappy with any of the product information that you have put out. I’ve been off-roading for over 40 years, but am new to overlanding so I actually don’t mind seeing some products in actual use.
Been there! I was going to get a free set of tires but the company kept adding more and more restrictions to the point I felt like lying. So I bailed at the last second, and they said we won't with you again if you back out. To which I replied, yeah that's fine with me. 🙂 More important that I sleep at night than get free tires.
David, I do appreciate the stance you are taking on behalf of your viewers. Unless I am mistaken, it will cost you to do this, but I have seen so many youtubers cave to advertiser after advertiser on products they clearly don't believe in or actually use more than once or twice until the next similar product comes along. I get that this is how sponsorships work, as I have worked with a couple of youtubers for over a decade now. Kudos to you for what seems to me to be a sacrifice of potential income for the benefit of your audience. The type of stuff you do is what I would love to do in my bronco but I live in costal Canada and there ain’t much for long distance overlanding without running into a mountain lol! Im just not that interested in replacing steering components every other trip. I have a lot of questions about the bronco and its reliability when it comes to certain components.
Absolutely support what you do 100%. As a small local business that does not advertise I love hearing how customers found our products. By seeing the benefit and sturdiness of what we handcraft in use (such as in the Bronco). many of us have to work in order to enjoy the overland stuff it is just part of the price, if you need to evaluate some products that is what it is. consider a hybrid set up where you do some add free content and some other product stuff. editing is what keeps be from doing much gopro, lol i know old school
I love the integrity and vision but i also love when you talk about products and provide honest feedback wether you like or dont. I have a Bronco as well and it saves me the time and vets the products for me. I think there is a space for you to do both if this is the way you support your family and allows you to go on more adventures. I love the adventure videos the most and of out of all the other overlander youtubers your and TSTN are my favorite. Ive purhased alot of products from your links and hope that has helped. I’ll still mention products on occasion, but not because I HAVE to. I don’t feel I’ve ever let a paycheck determine my opinion on a product, but want to remove that element entirely.

I don’t mind the sponsored videos at all. Your videos are great regardless. For some reason though it usually takes me searching your channel to find new videos - they don’t tend to pop up on my feed.
Dude yea we may not like to see sponsored ads, but most of us are avare of that you need cash / products to easily continue this awesome channel which takes us away from daily problems.. So for me, no problem. because everynight when wife and daughter sleeps, i go to living room open tv and watch your cinematics and that way i can relax and fall a sleep, and then wife comes wakes me up and she even one day told me, one night she came to wake me up but started to watch your videos and she sat near me and watched it till the end. she said, its very peacefull beautiful. :) Jut keep doing what you are doing, you are touching us in a way.

Ex UK Military mate. Overlanding definately saved my life. You do what's right by you bud. I did it professionally for 14 years but decided I wanted to swap to doing Overlanding for me on a more independent basis. My decision, my life. May I add a suggestion? Post a long, +1 hour long video of the trail. Mount a camera in-front of the vehicle and let it run. Kinda like the videos of the train rides in youtube that go for 10 hours. Do the same but for off-road, if the camera is outside you don't need to worry about talking or w/e, let the engine & road sounds do the talking.
Hooyah; I feel you I understand where you’re coming from. I felt the same way when I started trying to do my channel full-time in 2021. And then when I completely ran out of money summer of 2023, ended up, moving back to my deceased parents estate working through the estate process and selling the home. I realize that despite what I wanna do, I still have to have an income in order to survive. I think most people online realize that there has to be some form of monetization. However, you can monetize off of RUclips’s platform sites like Patreon, Amazon, As well as various merch sales and affiliate sales. I’m stuck on the Oregon coast now if you get out this way ping me always looking for another adventure.
I’ve been watching your videos for over a year, I personally don’t mind the ad content. I even play the ad videos in the background if I’m not interested just to be sure you get the views. Post whatever you need to, we’ll all still watch.
Personally I don’t think there is anything wrong with collabs and ads as long as you are transparent and it’s not every video. I like 10-20 min videos - that’s the sweet spot for me but I’ll probably watch longer form as well. I think your content is awesome and the quality of editing/storytelling has gotten even better since I started watching you a while back. So keep crushing 💪 P. S.: thought it was kind of funny that you were wearing an OnX offroad hoodie while making a video about no ad placement 😂

Money is great and necessary, but I have never been one to chase it or to allow me to do something that doesn't feel genuine to me. I'm excited to just focus on the craft of video production and storytelling.
I try. Integrity is the most important thing to me. I've never promoted something I don't genuinely like, but it opens the door for people to question my integrity just based on some of the shitty "influencers" out there. I don't want to be lumped in to that category.
I've really enjoyed your videos and those that you do when you team up with "the boys" - TSTN, V2R, etc. Do what you like and no matter what, your fans will follow. I was taught "do what you love and you'll never go wrong."
That's been my approach to life as well. Promoting products, even though I like them, didn't feel good to me. Just isn't the purpose behind the channel. So I am excited to just do me now. And I'll definitely be getting out with the boys more!

I think there is a space for you to do both if this is the way you support your family and allows you to go on more adventures. I love the adventure videos the most and of out of all the other overlander youtubers your and TSTN are my favorite. Ive purhased alot of products from your links and hope that has helped. Ill continue to sipport by watching and thru Patreon.
I’ll still mention products on occasion, but not because I HAVE to. I don’t feel I’ve ever let a paycheck determine my opinion on a product, but want to remove that element entirely.

I don’t mind the sponsored videos at all. Your videos are great regardless. For some reason though it usually takes me searching your channel to find new videos - they don’t tend to pop up on my feed.

Dude yea we may not like to see sponsored ads, but most of us are avare of that you need cash / products to easily continue this awesome channel which takes us away from daily problems.. So for me, no problem. because everynight when wife and daughter sleeps, i go to living room open tv and watch your cinematics and that way i can relax and fall a sleep, and then wife comes wakes me up and she even one day told me, one night she came to wake me up but started to watch your videos and she sat near me and watched it till the end. she said, its very peacefull beautiful. :) Jut keep doing what you are doing, you are touching us in a way.

I did it professionally for 14 years but decided I wanted to swap to doing Overlanding for me on a more independent basis. My decision, my life. May I add a suggestion?
Post a long, +1 hour long video of the trail.
Mount a camera in-front of the vehicle and let it run.
Kinda like the videos of the train rides in youtube that go for 10 hours.
Do the same but for off-road, if the camera is outside you don't need to worry about talking or w/e, let the engine & road sounds do the talking.
Hooyah; I feel you I understand where you’re coming from. I felt the same way when I started trying to do my channel full-time in 2021. And then when I completely ran out of money summer of 2023, ended up, moving back to my deceased parents estate working through the estate process and selling the home. I realize that despite what I wanna do, I still have to have an income in order to survive. I think most people online realize that there has to be some form of monetization. However, you can monetize off of RUclips’s platform sites like Patreon, Amazon, As well as various merch sales and affiliate sales. I’m stuck on the Oregon coast now if you get out this way ping me always looking for another adventure.
I have some ideas of how I may replace the income that I will lose. Hopefully, it will work out and there is demand for what I am putting together.
I’ve been watching your videos for over a year, I personally don’t mind the ad content. I even play the ad videos in the background if I’m not interested just to be sure you get the views. Post whatever you need to, we’ll all still watch.

Personally I don’t think there is anything wrong with collabs and ads as long as you are transparent and it’s not every video. I like 10-20 min videos - that’s the sweet spot for me but I’ll probably watch longer form as well.
I think your content is awesome and the quality of editing/storytelling has gotten even better since I started watching you a while back. So keep crushing 💪

I try. Integrity is the most important thing to me. I've never promoted something I don't genuinely like, but it opens the door for people to question my integrity just based on some of the shitty "influencers" out there. I don't want to be lumped in to that category.

I've really enjoyed your videos and those that you do when you team up with "the boys" - TSTN, V2R, etc. Do what you like and no matter what, your fans will follow. I was taught "do what you love and you'll never go wrong."
That's been my approach to life as well. Promoting products, even though I like them, didn't feel good to me. Just isn't the purpose behind the channel. So I am excited to just do me now. And I'll definitely be getting out with the boys more!
What happened to your Mammoth? I am interested in purchasing one for the wife and I, so we can use it for campings, concerts (Gorge), etc and I have not seen you using yours in awhile.
