I'm a former LaGuardia Tower controller. Your video brings back a lot of memories, although some of the procedures have changed over the years. In my day Clearance Delivery issued either the Whitestone, Maspeth, or the Coney climb-out to runway 13 departures to insure the aircraft avoided Kennedy airspace in case of radio failure. I read often how much passengers hate LaGuardia, but as a controller you love the airport because its so challenging. The intersecting runways require greater ATC skill than parallel runways like at JFK. Plus, because its the preferred airport for corporate traffic, LaGuardia has a wider mix of aircraft types (which means different speeds!) than Kennedy, further adding to the challenge. Ground Control at LGA can be especially difficult because of the airport's small footprint. In fact, Ground Control is the hardest position to qualify on when training in the tower. To this day I still carry and proudly display my Control Tower Operator's Certificate for LaGuardia Tower - perhaps the hardest tower in the country to work, but also perhaps the most fun.
Thank you for your service at that control tower. Safety number one and it feels good to know that the best are at the all control towers all over the country and the world.
Wow! I'm so happy I got to share my experience in 2022 with you! I'm sure I've heard your voice on the radio in the past. I can't tell you how much I admire the work of the LGA Tower controllers. Amazing work!
OMG Peter...that was just awesome. Its 1:50am 03/22 in New Zealand right now and I saw your new post. I pulled up my chair to my 65inch TV...turned out my lights and immersed myself into your flight. Forget fairy tales and "they all lived happily ever after"...you provide the best ever bedtime tales but I will watch this again tomorrow. Thanks mate.
Another very informative and enjoyable segment from KLGA Peter. Anyone who attended a baseball game at Citi Field or the old Shea stadium usually got an ear full of the departures and arrivals from 13/31. Love the immersive content!
@@straycat1081 True, even Ralph Kiner paused on the mic from broadcasting at times.. Sound abatement was almost impossible at those decibels...but yes, everyone in the stands would be watching the flights arc by including Tom Seaver..lol.

I lived for a year in NYC. 1982. La Guardia is my favorite airport. Beautiful views, small.. I understand why you do your videos. Waching you from Terrassa, near Barcelona, Spain.
Nice video. You mix and match different bloggers styles in an exquisite way. Not only you portrait the airport and its procedures, but you also playback a clean shot of the takeoff with ATC comms and nice shots of the city as it flew over Manhattan. I loved it. Brought nice memories of my trip to NYC a couple of years ago. Keep up the good work
Finally, I found someone who knows how to make a video. Every aspect was done well. From the shots the sound and music overdub, narration and editing. Great job! And for someone who doesn’t seem to be a pilot, you are quite knowledgeable. As I jet pilot myself, I enjoyed your mix of the ATC frequency into the soundtrack. Congratulations for a professional caliber video!
Thank you for this wonderful video. The conversation with the ATC guys at La Guardia airport was very very clear. Together with the messages on the screen, it makes me easier to follow. Easier to understand than the instructor's voice from my flying class.
Hi Peter, greetings.... thank you for that awesome right side seat fly you gave us.... that´s a great turn over jackson heights. Please continue doing the great job you do and take care of yourself.... P.D. that woman voice at the beguining its a nice touch on your posts. Congrats!!!!
As I look for any excuse to fly at any given time, watching videos such as these sort a keeps me pacified in between flights...keep the awesome narrated videos coming.....
Beautiful video. LGA and NYC looks so small when you are up in the air. What great views, you picked the right seat! Did you catch a glimpse of ROC as you passed by? Next time wave hi. 😁
Peter may I ask how you’re able to capture the ATC audio from your flights? I’ve done a little research and it doesn’t seem to be possible while in flight. I wonder if you have an ally that captures this audio while you’re flying. I wanted to try to listen in on a trip I’m taking to Las Vegas this week.
Another great video! I'm curious - do you listen to the tower and ATC on an AM aircraft radio or do you use an app or website such as Live-ATC? Thanks !
Howdy Peter, great videos with a ton of information, which I enjoy. And since you seem to know EVERYTHING I have an unrelated question to this video. I often see in videos that an airline has purchased an aircraft from another airline, why do they buy used aircraft from other airlines and why is the selling airline selling? If you do answer my dumb question, thanks.
Thanks for considering me the expert however I’m not an expert on that particular topic. I would assume that the purpose of purchasing an aircraft from another airline would be cost savings.
Endless thanks! Peter, for letting us experience what I am sadly missing at the moment. I have never ridden on the GLDMN 7 and it is by far the coolest LGA departure yet. To anticipate which of the 2 possible departures you would be getting, could you have monitored, prior to departure, CLNC DEL on 135.2?
Another fabulous video. I wonder if at some point you might explain how an airport with intersecting runways chooses which to use for departures versus arrivals? (I mean, the wind goes the same direction...)
You outdid yourself yet again. Other than flying in and out of LGA, MSP, Vegas, have you flown regularly out of any other airports in the Northeast Corridor Such as BWI, DCA, PHL, or BOS? While you can't beat the views in and out of NYC These other airports that I mentioned provide some picturesque footage. I have become a guru on flight departure and landing patterns at BWI and DCA which provide views not to disappoint. Would like to hear your input on your experiences flying in & out of these airports. Your footage and educational narration is second to none.
Thanks for watching! Well I have flown out of all of those airports I haven’t had a reason to fly out of them recently. Unfortunately my channel started after I flew out of all of those airports. Great ideas though.
Peter (or anyone that might know the answer to this query), do you know how the various names for the waypoints that are used to navigate a flight are chosen? Someone told me they were names specific to a particular geographical area, but they all seem so random; eg, VOBOZ & GLDMAN in the NYC area. Thanks for any explanation you can provide and I am really glad to have found your channel. Excellent work narrating, really really enjoying it! Cheers 🥂
Thank you very much! Watch this: ruclips.net/video/MyQAfFspdjU/видео.html This video explains how the fixes were named. For this particular approach, it has to do with sports. Fixes are often named after particular sports. However, they are also commonly named after people, particularly air traffic controllers.

Some climb outs on 13 just takes you south without turning (aside from the initial right turn just after takeoff). I guess only if you are heading towards southern destinations. It is rare but I've been on some heading down to FLL.
When I fly, I always get a wing seat. In the unlikely event of a problem, I know how to open the emergency door, and will help other people exit the aircraft.

Back int the '70s, at Shea Stadium, the pitcher would pause while a jet was flying over. Planes were a lot louder in those days.

Thanks! I do have some JFK videos on my channel.
I have been at LGA dozen of times since the 1970’s and most of the times use Runway 4 for landing and takeoff with few times runway 22 and runway 31
LaGuardia is always changing runway configurations.

I saw on FlightAware that flights were going to new 80s gates at LGA. Did another new concourse open?
Which airlines?
Do they ever land on runway 13? That would be some view out the right hand window of Manhattan
That is an extremely rare occurrence!
Some climb outs on 13 just takes you south without turning (aside from the initial right turn just after takeoff). I guess only if you are heading towards southern destinations. It is rare but I've been on some heading down to FLL.
That does happen on occasion!
@@PeterMasella Finding the right seat for a flight taking off from 13 is always difficult as you never really know which side will have the best view.
I made a nice video in 2012 of the full Whitestone Climb. Search Flight Over Flushing.

Yes
When I fly, I always get a wing seat. In the unlikely event of a problem, I know how to open the emergency door, and will help other people exit the aircraft.
A righteous cause, indeed !
Do you know why they very rarely do takeoffs from runway 22 at LGA? They do a lot of arrivals on the runway but not too many departures. Why is that?
Taking off on runway 22 would mean crossing runway 13-31 twice and the departure end leads to a noise sensitive area.
