These really are pretty impressive. If you buy one and regular gas has been used you can soak the wick in denatured alcohol to soften it back up and remove the fuel varnish, they don't work when they are hard and gummed up. And you can prime the head a number of times with the same alcohol, (pour some on OUTSIDE) and light it and let the impurities burn off. Mine went from greyish black to white on my 511a. and now will stay lit and is very useful. As a second side note 5000btu is the same as a 1500w electric heater, so a very reasonable amount of heat.
The vid may be random as you say, but it's exactly what I was looking for. I just picked one of these up in near mint condition for 10 bucks, when I saw that 70's design I knew I had to have it, but not what I had. Thank you for the detailed walkthrough. I'm so excited to try it out.
@@nicarob4257 That's the reason why I ended up getting two indoor paraffin heaters. Purchasing Coleman fuel in the UK is difficult and expensive. Paraffin isn't so cheap either but is still cheaper than Coleman fuel and so much easier to find. It's a nice little heater if you live in an area where the proper fuel is reasonably priced and easy to obtain, although once opened, apparently the fuel degrades rather quickly nicarob.
@@toniafolven A Coleman catalytic heater uses a form of petroleum (Naphtha) paraffin is not the same thing and will probably clog and not burn properly in such a heater.
Thank you for the video. I purchased one new in the box from an estate sale today for $15. Not sure I will ever need it, but like to have random stuff like this for just in case.
Pretty nice shape, it's missing the red knob on the start/adjuster handle. I just got one from my late grandfather and it looks like it's never been used :)
That warning was placed on the cap in the days of leaded gasoline. Even now it is best to use ethanol free unleaded, or remove the ethanol yourself, it attracts water - not good for the wicking.
Has anyone here used the catalyst from one of these on top of a kerosene heater in order to burn off any excess fumes? It surprises me there isn’t something like this on the market.
I put mine between my feet in my floorboard with an improvised wool blanket tent over my steering wheel and back of my seat. Lasts two nights for 75cents worth of gas and no chance of fire. Accidentally dropped a napkin on top with the cover off once and although a little brown at the edges did not even come close to catching on fire. Sleep like a baby . SAFE and the ONLY way to go. Trust me. I've tried all of these lil tricks.
Thanks for this vidéo! 👍 Would you use Tozane like what we use in Electronic inverter heater nowadays? I find white ''camp'' fuels to be too expensive.
Could this technology to be used when converting heat to electricity as a heat source? Since it seems to have good fuel efficiency does it mean with this it is possible to produce cheap energy?
The closest thing I can think to what you’re asking is a stove fan. A stove fan converts thermal energy to electricity in such a way that it is able to power the fan to circulate the heated air.

Wow this is so helpful!
Thanks for the tips! I am planning on getting one, and was worried about the same exact problem.
So you would trust this with white gasoline ?? Thanks
@@victoryfirst2878That's literally what it's supposed to run on.

Just bought one like this off Facebook marketplace for $10. It's stamped 5 73 on the bottom for the manufacture date. Thanks for showing how it works.
When the power goes out in winter, you'll pay anything for a nice, cheap, reliable heater. I have 4 coleman heaters.😁
White gas isn’t cheap !
Are you using unleaded gas in it ?

Are y'all talking about parrifin oil used in oil lamps? I can use parrifin oil in my Coleman catalyst heater?

@@pa_maj.MARTINI-van-MANparaffin i.e. kerosene.
I WISH they made a catalytic heater designed for kerosene.
Thanks I got one and wasn't sure if it was working right 😅 now I'm set

Sweet! Great piece to have!
Green can of Coleman fuel? How old was that stuff?
Thanks for showing me how to make it work
I didn’t know these existed till I saw one on fb np and bought it.
anyone else groan when he held it upside down over his face?
Thanks for the video just picked one up at auction for $2.50, I've used the older style before but love the two tone colors of this style. New sub!
Thanks for the video. Just picked one up at a garage sale for 5$ and wanted to see how it worked. Definitely going to use it for night catfishing
Great video just ran across one in my neighborhood bulky item pickup in great looking condition but no box
Way to plan ahead.

Haha I just got the same unit for $28 shipping included. Thanks for the instruction.
Awesome! And No Prob
Have you tried it out in a small area to see how it does
That inspired the "Micheal and Webb: Avocado".

Thanks... paid $20 for one just like this.
😜😜😜👍👍👍 great video, keep it up👌👌👌
Getting my first one and they say its a 1972 in working condition pictures show its clean.
So what’s the purpose of it? Just a good for warming your hand up? How much of an area would it keep warm ya think?
My buddy uses one as a tent heater. It doesn't put off any odors. But you need to make sure to keep a window open is all.
Duck blind, tree stand, boat, are you serious?
Lean-to camping...

Can you use this heater in the house if you're burning gasoline in it without the fear of carbon monoxide poisoning?
I'd say no
They say that these produce minimal carbon monoxide during hoperation due to how they work.
Still not worth the risk though hahaha

Campfire chargers existed two years ago then too
Can you tell me if these heaters are safe ??? They seem to look like a gasoline BOMB. This will make me very nervous.
KEEP THE FUEL CAN AWAY FROM OPEN FLAME

Okay OSHA
That looks unused in almost every way.
NOT Gasoline! Naptha gas,
