Always appreciate you using your platform to illuminate the pitfalls of grading. It’s always crazy how much you can mr. bright side these scenarios. Great mind set.
Silver Age guy here. I have seen, have, or had most of those silver age books that you got for your AF 15. As a kid in the 60's, I searched all over for AF 15. and never found one nor have I ever even seen one. So, considering my life's experience, I would not have made that trade, even if it had a purple label.
Hey, I love this video. This is Bob in Connecticut. . To tell you what I spoke to CGC three different people.. I bought a superman 1 5.0 moderate professional restoration, no trimming pieces. added color touch tear seals . I bought is not graded privately for $12,500. The seller told me it was restored.. OK but CGC thinks I have a great chance for restoration removal so I’m going to hand the book to CGC at the New York City comic con in October. Even if it comes back.2.0 it’s worth a lot more than the way it is right now. The worst that could happen is I will only owe them for screening and shipping back to Ridgefield Connecticut.. I will let you know the results. I am crossing my fingers..
@@BrysComics hey thanks for your suggestion I will probably not even bother I don’t really have any spending money I don’t work. I have no income unless they sell one of my good comic books.
Hey Bry, another great video, found this one especially interesting to hear your journey with the resto removal attempt! Quick question, you referenced GPA when “valuating” comic collections, do you typically just use 90-day or do you also look further back (or factor very recent sales higher)?
Bry, I appreciate all your videos! Thank you for continuing to better the community with sharing your experiences and overall knowledge. I know I’m wiser because of watching your videos. Thank you, brother.
I could spend half the night replying to this video. So much great content. So many great books. I was on vacation and just getting to this now. I noticed the Marvel Universe run. I've been pining after that in high grade for a while. But, Jeezers, what another great bunch of books you've taken in.
Risky, crazy, bold and brave! Love how you’re willing to take risk. Very smart bc very entertaining content and I believe you have very competitive prices! 👍
I was so excited to see how this turned out! And, to be honest, I never would have guessed this was the outcome! Thanks for sharing and educating us all. Your point #3 I have to remind myself all the time - but this AF15 is of course my ultimate grail. I'd trade just about everything I had to get one! As always, keep these coming!
I was in the car using an ipad and it was tight and difficult to state a comment with substance, but I just wanted to point out that you point out all of these things that CGC dose that can drive a person mad, you then turn around and always give a logical reason for CGC's madness. I honestly think you should be on their payroll as an ambassador because you do a great job discussing CGC faults and strengths.
I submitted an ASM #11 for restoration removal for a small amount of color touch. I actually got an email saying the color touch could not be safely removed. They then asked if I wanted the book graded or sent back as is. I opted for the book to be returned as is. They sent it back in its originally graded form. I assume they did the analysis based on prior grading notes and looking at the book in the slab. Are you sure your book was actually cracked and regraded?
I have seen some color touch books that had the color touch removed and they look terrible. It’s almost a crime to do that to such an important piece of comic’s history. Sorry but I think you dodged a bullet not having them hack the book to pieces.
The question is how come you can't determine (assuming raw) what was restored visually by magnification tools and inspection and blacklight Inspection check for inks? They may be using a scanner visual magnification microscope?
What a great collection. Always a difficult decision as to which option one would want - the AF15 or all the other books. I suppose it also matters if you're wrapping up your collecting days, just starting out, or somewhere in between. Personally, I'd go with the collection but that's because there are some killer books in there that I've always wanted.
Resubmitting is always a gamble…..I sent an 8.5 DD 2 in for new case because of newton rings and still was nervous, knowing CGC could screw it up somehow. Came back 8.5 though so worth it.
That's a tough break on the AF15... but you did get a lot of really desirable slabs in the trade. Can't wait to see what's inside the 3 short boxes in the next video!
You are very lucky that they did not remove the color touch. I saw the video of you cracking the book and showing the bleed through of the spine on the inside of the book. You would have gotten a book back with a totally detached cover. The amount of color touch was quite a lot up and down the spine. The press looks great though!
It’s almost like they just saw 6.5 and assumed that’s how the book was when it was first graded, without considering you pressed it before sending it in.
Silver Surfer is my favorite character and for me it's FF49 by a mile. Just a significantly better cover that shows both Galactus and Silver Surfer on there!! FF49 is 1st Galactus, 1st Galactus Cover, 1st Silver Surfer Cover, and 2nd Silver Surfer appearance...whereas FF48 is just 1st Silver Surfer.
This is why a private restorative companies, like hero restoration, the interaction will be better, more transparent, more informative. Asking the grading companies produces the interaction that Bry experienced. Use small, personal services instead.

Lol sometimes it takes a while to get to the Mr bright side of things
The straightforward presentation and the sharing of all the facts in circumstances like this or what make your videos so great Bry!

Thank you for sharing your insightful stories. I love that you show all sides of your business good and bad. Thank you!
This was a ton of fun. Very helpful too (dealer perspective, CPR, etc.), thank you! PS lol 30:34 worth the wait for your "troll" voice and comment. 🙂

If they crack it out to screen you will have to pay to have it regraded also…they won’t do it if it brings it down to a 2.0 likely

Great video. Love learning about this kind of thing.
CGC should allow for pictures of before and after pressing and defects. having this book come back the same is ridiculous.
Great tips. I always appreciate how you try to help us as comic collectors. Thanks for incurring the costs and time to share these lessons.
Awesome tips Bry...thank you so much.
thank you for sharing all that great info and sharing those great comics
Great information. Thanks Bry!
Thanks for the lessons, you rock, Bry!
Yes. I have sent books to be cleaned and pressed by CGC and got the same grade back. It really hurts when there is no improvement.
Amazing story of comic exploration! Thanks for sharing re: Amazing Fantasy 15!
thank you for sharing this information
As always, your videos are very informative and really helpful. Thank you

Great analysis - thanks for walking us through the benefits and problems!!
These are my favorite videos on the channel. It’s cool to see what people trade for these big books!!
You have more class than me. I would have blasted them for no info after paying for the service.
Ty for the info I’ve been thinking about doing this for awhile not with af15 though lol

Awesome video! I just watched the first video about this yesterday 😂
You're crazy cracking a book like that.
🤪
Wow - Now that’s a grail - congrats to the new owner -also nice books for you on the trade -I like your in depth explanations of examples that you do

It was sent as a raw..
Yeah I sent it in raw

Hacking the book to pieces was NEVER on the table
Nice. I prefer the cover on fantastic four 49. Favorite FF cover
That whole appraisal process for restoration removal needs an overhaul.
Great video
Lack of communication from CGC on a book of that magnitude is pure insanity.
Have you tried submitting a book to Hero Restoration or similar company for a restoration removal assessment?
Yes we had a terrible experience with Hero Resto, avoid at all costs.
Wins all around. Amazing the grade didn’t bump after those presses. Made a big difference.
Not likely something I would ever do, but interesting to hear how the story turned out.
Nice trade

I don’t understand the question. You can determine what was restored visually…
You do have to crack it out and open it up usually though…
i love this series
No risk it, no biscuit!

Hey I would love to upgrade my Marvel Super-Heroes 20 cgc 7.5 white pages to your 8.0 white pages. Let me know what I need to do. 🙌🏼
too bad the AF15 came back the same grade.
Wow. What a collection!
Can you experiment on showing use how to overbake a Amazing Fantasy 15. Thank you.
good lesson
Hello Bry. Very good topic , enjoyable. I think that CGC thinks it's the only company that does grading. Customer service is key to any company.
And the winner… of best new drama is…Bry’s Comics 😂. Keep grinding bro! ✌️
😂
Solid video
Always learn something new
Grading is such an undertaking if you don't know what you're doing...and even when you do. Good trade for the AF15 tho.
Resubmitting is always a gamble…..I sent an 8.5 DD 2 in for new case because of newton rings and still was nervous, knowing CGC could screw it up somehow. Came back 8.5 though so worth it.
Lovely video!
Wow. I have gotten into cleaning but I could never touch a book like that.
Not the updates I was waiting for but it is what it is…better luck next time, great vid👍
Great story
Amazing vid man, keep it up! 🫶🏻✨
Did you consider CBCS or would the value drop be too high for a book of this prestige?
The only thing I would consider CBCS for is sig verification on a raw grail
Pretty interesting how it came back as the same grade even though it clearly looks better now
Considering all that could go wrong, not so bad... you'll get em' next time!
That's a tough break on the AF15... but you did get a lot of really desirable slabs in the trade. Can't wait to see what's inside the 3 short boxes in the next video!

cool covers
Well those books will move easier anyways. Have to move and shake to get that AF15 in a 9.8, lol, gl with that.
Amazing adventure!
Seems like pressing cleaning rarely leads to more value with the fees and risk to do the cleaning
Nice experiment! So the grade remained the same?
It’s almost like they just saw 6.5 and assumed that’s how the book was when it was first graded, without considering you pressed it before sending it in.
Cool looking books
I have a 9.2 Clone Wars 1 I'd like to Crack and resend it in
danger will robinson, danger
I feel like if you came in when CGC first started you would of gotten a higher grade than now with the same book today.

Seems like a fair trade all around. CGC really gives no F’s!!
"Off White to White" => "Off white".... go home CGC, you're drunk
