Jason would fit right in on the New York subway.

  • @Jim-Tuner

The film was a compromise. The writer/director wanted to do "Jason on a Boat" and the Studio wanted to do Jason in New York. But there wasn't enough budget to do a New York story so the director filmed the boat story anyway and did a bunch of random scenes at the end to cover the New York idea. They also titled it "Jason takes Manhattan".
I doubt the studio even noticed that he still did his boat story instead of what they wanted.
Leonard Maltin loved this film when it was release and praised it as the best film in the Friday the 13th series.

Fun fact: in the recent Friday the 13th video game, players assume the role of a camp counselor, or Jason Voorhees himself. The counselors are all based on classic slasher film archetypes, like the virginal final girl, the slut, the nerd, the jock, the rich kid, etc., but when playing as Jason, you have several iterations of the character to choose from, based on his appearances in most of the films, but the differences aren’t purely cosmetic-every version of Jason in the game is either limited or bolstered by what the character could do in their respective films.
For this reason, Part 8 Jason is the most OP version there is, able to teleport _frequently_ thanks to shorter cooldowns of his powers, and swim _extremely_ fast in the water, making escaping by boat nearly impossible if the person playing as Part 8 Jason is aware of his advantage. His only drawback? He’s undead, like his other versions from Part 6 onward, so he can’t run-only walk fast-but if you know what you’re doing, that won’t stop you from routinely leaving no survivors.
Damn, I miss that game. 😫

I bought two consoles, and the game itself, twice, just for the experience of this game, only to learn that there’s nothing more than a demo to be played on one console without internet, and it won’t even load on the other.

@@diazdelosmuertos1503 I appreciate that. It’s kind of even worse.
I bought my PS4 specifically for that game, so I got it and the game the same day. Why, even knowing I don’t play online? Because some ass clown from the studio claimed there was an offline play mode. So I fire the thing up, put the disc in and…nothing. Internet required. You can imagine that’s some expensive paperweights.
So then I’m able to confirm through a third party that the Switch version does have an offline mode, so I buy that console and the game, too. Of course, that’s when I found out it’s nothing more than a glorified demo without internet. Basically it’s one level of accessibility, one Jason, whom you always play as, and then there’s something like two mission oriented side quest levels that last a couple minutes each. That’s all you get. Almost an expensive paperweight.
Suffice it to say I got about one day’s worth of entertainment out of that game.

2:12:54 That's not true at all.
New Line Cinema was absorbed by Warner Bros. in 2008 but continues to operate as an unit.
The rights to the "Friday the 13th" franchise and the character Jason Voorhees became entangled in legal disputes due to copyright issues, not because of New Line Cinema's merger with Warner Bros. The primary conflict arose between Victor Miller, the original screenwriter, and Sean S. Cunningham, the director and producer. Miller sought to reclaim the rights to his screenplay under the U.S. Copyright Act's termination provisions, leading to a legal battle over ownership. In 2018, a U.S. District Court ruled in favor of Miller, affirming his rights to the original screenplay. This decision was upheld in 2021, granting Miller control over the original film's elements, while Cunningham retained rights to aspects introduced in subsequent sequels.

Agree on that scene. It seems easily implied to me that the Captain had spent time grooming and training his son to take up the family tradition but the son clearly wasn’t interested, and this was the culmination of a longer part of their relationship we can assume occurred prior to the start of the movie.
