It's a gem of an album Phil, you are right to appreciate it so much, an album that gets better with age, and a favourite of mine at this time of year as it has an autumnal feel, quite dark and moody. I don't think there's a dud track on it, and the ecological theme that runs through the work chimes as much today as it did in the late 70's.
Generally a little unloved by some fans maybe, as the last classic lineup offering, it deserves a much higher ranking in the Tull cannon than most give it credit for. The live set is fantastic, featuring tracks from the album which they never returned to making it quite unique.

Hi Keith, thank you for watching. It has certainly become one of my favourite Jethro Tull albums since filming this series. Phil

Greetings Phil, This is one of my fave's...A great cover (front and back), great songs, great vocal performances ("dark ages"), beautiful string arrangements ("Old Ghosts") , basically, fantastic. I do have both the original LP and CD, and the single disc remix version, which sounds amazing. This was a great band line-up and some great live performances.

I was told that this was the end of the trilogy started with Songs of the Wood. I picked this one at the same time as Songs & Heavy Horses. I played the three vinyl records back to back all week. I still play them like a triple album 🎶 Thank you for an excellent review Phil ✌️💯

    My favourite Tull album.
    Dark and haunting.

Bravo! Fantastic album. I have the Songs from the Wood box-set, so must save up for this one (and Heavy Horses) too. Although these three albums are sometimes seen as Tull's most folksy, they also rock. If Rainbow ever make a new album with Ronnie Romero, it'd be great if they covered Dark Ages as they did Hall of the Mountain King (as well as Blackmore's Night's The Storm, with the full band). It's sad that John Glascock was too ill to play on all the tracks (he was a great musician), but Ian Anderson did a great job. North Sea Oil's a memorable opener (love the way Anderson rolls the word "oihhlll" there!). Old Ghosts is Tull doing heavy rock with poetic lyrics as only they can. Stunning. Orion, Dun Ringill, and all the other tracks are worthy too. Bought the CD at the record stall by the pub in London Paddington Station in 2003. Have been playing it regularly since. Cheers! 🙂

Is this the box set that has the Bursting Out concerts ? Expanded and without the bloody bleeping ?
I have all these box sets up to Broadsword.
I also have another JT box set of The same format called Around The World Live whic comprises of 4 DVDs of live concerts.
Excellent to round off this superb & sublime collection 😂❤
    Well done Phil

Saw them in Manchester on this tour...not as good as the previous two albums IMHO but there are many good moments to savor, .Orion,, Dun Ringill, Flying Dutchman, Elegy and Old Ghost's to name but a few but the cracks were beginning to show, the death of bassist John Glascock cast a bit of a shadow on proceedings. A delicate time for the band...

I have the Home EP and one other single. I have never owned the album and don't have this set. I may get it, but am not fussed if I don't. I have heard it. Years ago my mate had the Stitch In Time single and wouldn't sell it as it was on white vinyl and he collected coloured vinyl and picture discs. He didn't play them as he put them on his wall.

Hi Phil, enjoyed the video. Like i said in a comment on your Broadsword review video the other day. I didn't actually catch onto Tull until the release of Broadsword And The Beast. As for Stormwatch, my first time hearing the album was when i bought the boxset, mental i know hahaha. But what a really enjoyable and brilliant it is with some brilliant songs, i love it. I'm interested to know if you've been buying these box sets as they've been released, or did you miss some and have to pay over the odds for them, some of them go for crazy money. I missed 4 of them before i became aware of their existence, Thick As A Brick, A Passion Play, and War Child were the ones i missed before i started collecting them, i still havent been able to get hold of War Child simply because sellers are asking hundreds for it. The only reason i have TAAB is because the label re-released it just recently, but if I'd bought it from eBay id have had to pay hundreds. I did manage to acquire a sealed copy of A Passion Play from eBay a year or so ago for £60 which i was really pleased with. As for War Child, i doubt I'll ever own it, unless i want to pay £200 or £300 for it.

The thing is what one likes may not be what you like and sometime what one my not like , you like and the theres not knowing plus your into what your into and that's, that's. But the thing is later your get it and think yes that was good. Some of the fun is as you get older you find more that you have missed. The journey in music is never ending discovery of new C.ds and Records to keep you happy spinning .

This album personally for me was the first real dent I had seen in Ian Anderson's writing it is by far the worst of the 3 part trilogy that much so that it's completely out of context with the two albums that came before in the trilogy. Instead of woodland elves and fury creatures, we get songs about oil and the stars. I found this album extremely disappointing and an album that has very little to offer. "Dun Ringill" is the only track on the album that fits in with the folk-rock trilogy of albums the rest of the album hardly speaks to me at all.
I must admit that when I purchased this package I was hoping that the surround mix would help me enjoy and appreciate it a bit more. It's always been an album that hardly ever gets played since I brought it back in 1979. Every album in the Tull catalogue that came out before this one are very much my GOTO! albums.
The best thing about this package is the "Associated Recordings" and a lot of those tracks that never made the album are a damn site better than most of the ones that did. As a matter of fact, the tracks that make up the "Associated Recordings" on the Heavy Horses Mediabook are a thousand times better than the material that made up Stormwatch. If you were to take those and throw in a few of the ones that come with this package you would have a seriously good Tull album and not this rubbish. A good album has to have a lot more to offer than the 3 tracks even you mentioned Phil and Stormwatch I think I will always see it as a letdown album.

@@peggs1 I've tried doing that several times over the years but for me, it just does not cut the mustard. The only other good thing about it is that Ian Anderson still had his voice.
