I have an Ally, but I'm still looking forward to the Loki due to its size. Both the Steam Deck and the Ally are too big for my travel bag, but the Loki should be able to fit right in. So I think the Loki still has a place in the market for that reason, if nothing else.
Agreed, love my Deck but it's only barely portable in my opinion. I have a back and front super slim case for it to minimize additional bulk while still protecting it and it's still enormous and heavy. I'm eyeing Loki for the closer-to-Switch size.
I really like the form factor of this device as I personally feel that the Steam Deck and the ROG Ally are a bit too large for a dedicated handheld device. The price is certainly a real bummer but honestly the biggest bummer to me about all of these devices is that they don't have the option to run on Steam OS. Because of this, the Steam Deck is still a fantastic option despite being quite a bit older than all of these other Windows devices and I feel like whenever Valve launches their next Steam Deck it's going to kind of blow all of these Windows handhelds away even if it's using a similar chipset.
Yes, I hope Valve’s next handheld device will be lighter, have better ergonomics, better screen, better battery efficiency, more stable firmware and better game support overall which can make it a strong contender against other handhelds as well as consoles with inferior backwards compatibility support. Valve just have to wait and see what Nintendo does first before they can make a move… My only fear is that the console makers manages to scares Valve enough into preventing emulation on it.
I’m not in the market for a new heavy hitter of a handheld, but damn are we living in the age of powerhouse handheld systems - and I love it! That said, Valve really has set the bar in terms of price and performance.
I feel like the next Loki will be much better and probably have way better timing. Although i already have the ally and that's probably all I need for the next 5 years or so
Knowing Ayn, they'll start talking about the next Loki before initial pre-order deliveries are caught up, collect orders, and go silent while the Odin 2 is being developed.
Dude, that's exactly the reason I bailed on the AOKZOE A1 Pro and went with the Ally. Well, that and the nightmare stories about their customer service, or lack thereof. Sure enough, the minute the Indiegogo ended they announced the A2
The indiegogo route cant hold up regarding a decent release cycle. If they dont have the money to launch a device at this point without crowd funding they are pretty much SOoL
I got the Loki with the 6600u and a ROG Ally and I prefer the Loki even though it has a lower level CPU. The Loki is more comfortable to hold it feels heavy and the plastic feels higher quality. The smaller screen isn't that noticeable and it an play all the games the Ally can but at lower settings but still look amazing.. The hot key button combos on the Loki are great for easy switching from gamepad to mouse mode. Don't gimp it with TDP settings none of these handhelds have good battery life no matter what you do. There is one setting to change is fan speed the Loki is loud at auto and is overkill. I set it to 40% and it keeps it cool enough. If you want to change the TDP I set mine to 20 ish and its fine I play Gamez at low settings I prefer performance and the quality is still good. You can get the Loki Max 6800u for $550 which is a steal. I got my Loki in 2 weeks when I bought mine in September from the Ayn website.
Exactly this. By the time they actually ship your preorder, they have already announced a newer model. F* that. Better off with Valve or ASUS who will support their products for several years.
I don't know why, but there's something very inviting about the Loki Max's soft rounded aesthetic compared to the more jagged ROG Ally... I'd still probably buy the Ally though if I had to choose.
As always thank you for the detailed reviews. Im glad I didnt decide to down payment this one too... I still have my regular pro odin (as I almost got the gpd win 4 earlier this year). I'm just trying to patiently wait till they(anyone ayn, gpd, etc...), come out with a handheld with a slide out keyboard, that's also thin(ner), less than(or equal to) 5inches screen wise, and can play ps3 emulation. That'll be my personal sweet spot! 😊
With an Auto TDP program it would be even better. I have one for my GPD Win 4 and games that used to drain my battery in 1 hour can now last 1 hour and 45 min with the exact same performance. Games that I can get 2 hours normally can get 2 and a half hour with Auto TDP. Basically the program will lower the cpu and gpu frequency on the fly to match the framerate you want. You reach a place that has less stuff to render, drops the frequency, cleared all the enemies in an area so less power needed? drop the frequency, loading screen? drops the frequency. Makes a huge difference when all added up over 2 hours.
When the pastor asks me if I want to take my fiancée as my lawfully wedded wife through sickness and in health I’m going to be like, ‘yeah man I wanna do it.’
I love the form factor and design of the loki, those grips like nice and easy on the hands, unlike the ally. However yeah it's a tough sell when you can get better performance for less with the ally.
Performance isn't everything, size and battery life matter too. I will easily take this over the big large ally which is harder to take around and heavier
Thx russ thx all of all these reviews it's great to see someone give the smart choice rather the I'm being paid choice...I know it has it features in smaller size etc. but buying out a local store with local support is a no brainer
Like the look of the Loki Max. I think the screen is a miss though. Playing Cyberpunk 2077 on the Steam Deck the text is already hard to read and a smaller screen than that just seems like a bad idea for a device targeting PC games.
I want to get a handheld for ps play and maybe emulating gb games I didn't even think about size of text while playing cyber punk that's good point thank you
I preordered a Loki mini mendocino and they cancelled the whole SKU recently. 🤦♂ I used the refund to buy an Aya Neo Air Plus 1215U, shipping now. Saved money and getting a better device (performance wise at least).
I canceled mine and got an ROG Ally instead. These Chinese companies using Indiegogo to fund the project. They'll make a review unit to big channel and get more business, and then just keep delaying until the next gen product sout already... I do appreciate they are willing to refund my order though.
As someone who was an early backer of the Eve Spectrum I'd say delays are par for the course for high end tech crowdfunded projects. You'll get it in the end. It'll just be a frustrating experience until then.
Someone needs to make a playlist the consists solely of Russ’ recording of handheld fan noise. I get ASMR vibes has i bask in the white noise and imagined smell of new electronics.
Honestly, with all these devices I feel I can afford to wait another year or two. Based on improvements over time, I’m sure there will be another device with twice the power and performance and maybe even a better battery. Not sure, but I can afford to wait and see. For the time being, I’m good with my Odin and switch.
That sounds a little bit of a waste of money. Could've just used your phone plus a telescopic controller. There's few points to be made and all. But if you are definitely trying to save money then you would've just stick with switch for emulation and phone for the other.
I feel the same. The tech has improved so much so quickly that in maybe just 1 more generation we will have a 720p/800p handheld that can run literally everything on max settings, no compromises.
Really curious how the $489 vanilla Loki with a 6600U & 8gb of RAM compares performance wise. As far as I can tell it should have the same hardware otherwise but without a comparable 6600U handheld I'm curious how much the chipset will matter and even more so, how much the 8gb of RAM will affect what will play. edit- And to be honest, even more so... How capable will the (newly price increased) $349 AMD (the only chipset remaining) Loki Mini Pro perform?
1. The fps for Witcher 3 at 720 low at 25W seems abnormally low if there was no mis-labelling. Remember it seems to perform better on other 6800u. Did you try reinstalling the newest radeon drivers? 2. Does 40hz mode works if RSR is turned on? (E.g 720p native rendering and output in 1080p) .
God of war locked at 30fps at 25w tdp was weird was weird because on Ayn's RUclips channel they have gameplay in the 40s-50s at a 20watt tdp. I'm confused if maybe settings are different in the vid
@@yearoftheox5222 I played through God of War at 40fps on my GPD Win 4 in 720p with most settings at Original and I'm pretty sure I was at 14-16w. I think the difference is that I used the renderscale option. Maybe the tests we see in the video is always without any upscaling settings. No renderscale or AMD resolution or FSR magic at all.
Seriously, who does really believe "delays happened"? AYN clearly just made announcement in June 2022 waiting for June 2023 finally release it without taking loss for buying expensive tech in 2022.
Looking back at this video today its unfortunate but it took too long to come to market. Now i dont blame AYN for this, I understand things like this take time but it felt like so many other companies were moving ahead of them as well as the Steam Deck existing and were fufilling orders way quicker. I cancelled my Loki Max and opted for a Steam Deck and i have loved it ever since and never regretted my choice. It makes me glad that they did take long in bringing it to market because it allowed me to go for a Steam Deck instead. For the people who did wait i do hope it was worth the wait at least compared to whats on the market now
Thinking about it now I guess the ROG Ally X exists along with the OLED Steam Deck so currently this probably wouldn't be the best device to go for which is a shame with how long it took them to get here
Are people still getting them though? I just tried looking into buying one to check prices but didn't see any listings nor mentioning on AYN's page about any of the Loki models, so were they scrapped and pre-orders refunded?
I pre-ordered a year ago and unless you are a big RUclipsr the Customer service kinda sucks. I just sent them an email asking what was going on and all they could tell me is I was.part of a later batch of Loki's. I pre-ordered it June 2 2022. Other than that I love my Odin and I am looking forward to 2030 when mine finally arrives. I love their quality, but they need to work on their communication big time. My channel is about 11k subs and I am currently switching my focus to these handhelds(I have way too many😂). Part of my review on these will be shipping times and customer service. Seems Ayn is a small company, but they need to figure this out. At this point the chipset went from being top end to older. By the time.its out there it will be $700 for last.years chip. Bottom line is this will hurt their sales. I paid $650, due to me buying the Odin before. I don't mind waiting but a year is ridiculous. Especially because I am working on a video of my favorite handhelds and due to it's late arrival(whenever that is) It won't make the cut.
I like that AYN takes their time to make an amazing product but too bad the market can't wait. I have the GPD win 4, steam deck, and the ally. If this came out sooner, I would have probably purchased it.
I got an Odin Pro last year and loved it but it just made me want a proper PC handheld more. The Deck is too big for me. The Ayaneo is overpriced. The Loki would have been perfect for me if it came out 6 months ago but instead I fell in love with the GPD Win 4.
@@ransackedfor real...LOL. Like what would be the point of owning all those 3, and then owning this device here when they all are basically identical to one another, minus a few things here and there.
Why are we not seeing more of these newer handheld pc’s with more OLED screens? I really think OLED makes up for lost resolution, especially on the smaller screen
Good review. I agree that the loki max is late to the show. Seems you have forgotten about the Aya Neo Geek 1S. It is also now at 700$, with the 7840u. Right now, I think it is a better deal than the Rog Ally. But in a month or two, that won’t be the case. But for now, the Geek 1S deal is really good. Same thing for the AokzoeA1pro you reviewed a while back. At 800$, it was a fantastic deal, better than the Ally in my opinion. But now that the campaign for the early bird prices has ended, it isn’t. Onex player is due to release the Onexfly with 7840u and 120hz screen and much more. If the price is good then it would be better than the Ally. The advantage the Ally has is that it is readily available and the price doesn’t change
I have a GPD win 4 and it also has a touchpad. I recently started playing Gravity Rush on Vita3k emulator and noticed that the emulator doesn't register touch screen like a mouse click and all the menu stuff in that game are touch based. Basically I wouldn't be able to play the game without the touchpad. So glad to have it.
for my GPD Win 4 I have an Auto TDP program. I usually have it set to 6w when I'm in Windows but before I start a game I start the Auto TDP mode that will change the cpu and gpu frequency automatically to match the framerate I want. It does that on the fly constantly as well so if I'm in a place in a game that has less stuff to render, it will lower the clock speed and save power so battery last even longer than if you just set a constant TDP. It's really worth taking the couple seconds needed to change TDP just so you can keep battery life decent.
I think Ayn made a mistake with the Loki. The Odin was, and still is, something very special: a ~$200 device with fantastic performance, a great screen/battery, and best WiFi. I think it's basically best-in-class for the "B-Tier" handhelds at such a price. Competing in the "A-Tier" when the Steam Deck and ROG Ally have huge corporate funding / ability to operate on low margins I feel like just lands the Loki lost somewhere amidst the 6,000 AyaNeo models that get released every week. If you buy the Steam Deck or ROG Ally you also get great customer support, warranties that are fulfilled fast when fixes are needed, and constant new rollouts of tools / software upgrades. Until one of these A-Tier devices meaningfully beats the Steam Deck in some way (maybe double the battery life or better cooling/fans, etc.), I just don't know who these devices are for. I'm a very proud supporter of the Odin though!
I should caveat that my comment is from a USA viewpoint. I know the Steam Deck / ROG Ally aren't available easily everywhere worldwide. So maybe this device makes sense in certain countries.
I have a question I understand that the Loki Max has a mouse mode which is amazing I would love to know does that work well with games on Steam that have partial controller support
They messed up. The price of the Loki Mini Pro is now $349 and that's when its not even in Production yet. It might increase in Price before launch. At that point, the Steam Deck base model is a good deal
I was one in the stack for the Ryzen 5 version because of the intended use case (Genshin Impact at the time, now adding in Honkai Star Rail, plus visual novels) - but the delays took so long to materialize in a shippable product that it's coming out after something that's faster than it, plus some extra features. And that's after picking up a ROG Ally launch evening and getting it setup with no unexpected headaches (knowing how Windows works and where it.. doesn't really lets you get around issues before they're issues). That might be why the software is still a bit undercooked, they saw what was coming and just pressed the big "SHIP IT" button..
Normal analog sticks are the reason why Anbernic Rg350 was one of my all times favorite. However I’ve modded the right one with a flat styled stick. And left the other original
Let me start by saying this first, I stay in a country where the steam deck is only now available for pre-order, but that ship has long sailed for me, regardless of how everyone is ranting and raving about the deck and the amazing community support I do not consider buying it period, just my personal preference. Nothing wrong with the deck though. Secondly, all I'm going to say is a lesson well learned, I'm no longer supporting Kickstarter campaigns due to FoMo, I paid full price for my Loki Max and kept my fingers crossed unfortunately, all that was for naught. For the life of me, I do not know why I did not cancel my order with every delay that was announced by AYN. So, at this point, I'm extremely conflicted given that the new Phoenix Point APU is here. I've decided to skip all Zen4 APU handhelds this year and plan on selling my Loki Max, save some money then wait for AMD's next generation of Zen5 handhelds from reliable manufacturers. Oh well at least I still have my trusted PS Vita (long live the Vita)
I watched both your Asus ROG Ally and this wonderful video for loki max. I dont know which one to choose due to both being absolutely convincing. Can the portable gpu system mentioned in the asus video work with the loki?
IMHO, Ally really change the PC handheld market landscape with their brand name, price/performance, and their availibility, i really don't see any point in buying similar handheld pc which are more expensive, not more available, and from less well-established brand, they can only compete with steam deck and Ally if they can offer something different. For example, even now I still see GPD Win 4 as great alternative, because it offers the unique physical keyboard, trackpad, and more IO ports, something that Ally lacks.
For anyone who has a solution to an issue I've been dealing recently with the Loki Max: For some reason, I found out today that the trigger buttons are not being recognized at all. All the other buttons work fine (face buttons, d-pad, etc.) yet for some reason the triggers are not being detected even though both drivers and windows updates are up to date. I've barely used my Loki Max and i've kept it inside its' case most of time. I'm not sure if this is a Windows 11 or a drivers issue but it's been very frustrating.
I was having an issue in certain games where the triggers wouldn’t work at all after a cut scene while running BazziteOS, but since installing the latest version I have yet to see the same issue. It works so much better than Windows. You should give it a try and see if it helps, if not you can always put Windows back on. Or better yet, install as a dual boot to see if it works for you
@thefoxhouse unfortunately i sold my Loki two months ago and opted for an Odin 2. I wonder if it explains why you can no longer purchase a Loki from the AYN website. Not only that but after a Windows update, my Loki lost all volume
Will there be a review for the other variants? Mainly the Loki Zero, wondering which one to get between that one or the Odin Pro because it will be mainly used for emulation.
My attempts to run RCPS3 all crash. I dont think I've played more than 30 min of anything. I keep seeing it tested in these videos when I've been thinking it's not working well enough to be a thing yet.
Use the Render scale setting for God of War. I set it to 60% on my GPD Win 4 and played through the entire game with most settings set to original and framerate locked at 40fps. I was able to set the TDP low enough to get 2 hours of battery. The Loki Max was at the top of my list when I started looking for a Windows Handheld. I have a Odin Pro and loved it a lot but the Loki took so long to come out that I looked elsewhere and found the GPD Win 4 that has some features I really wanted.
I have already the ayaneo air plus and i am quite happy. But this Loki looks really more comfortable. But regarding the screen: in your footage the air plus looks actually more saturated…?
Seems like it's still a good competitor to the Ally. I do like that it seems to be a little more transportable than the ally and way smaller than the deck
not have anything to do with this video, but i have question Russ. What are in your opinion the best budget friendly retro handheld that can run ps 1 smoothly. Thanks Russ
Hey Russ, I was wondering if you could share with me a straight comparison with the Loki Max and the Steam Deck? No ROG Ally included 😂 As a Deck owner and a very early backer of the Loki max , I’m holding steady. I love the Loki form factor/ ergonomics, and can’t seem to find a detailed direct comparison with the Steam Deck. How will I be juggling these things getting the best out of both systems? ROG Ally is the kid who watched us die a million times in Mega man only to master it the first time they played it 😂😂😂 Love the channel and the content! Keep it comin!!
What keeps putting me off these otherwise tempting devices are the displays. 6" and 1080p is certainly good enough for gaming, but LCD? Seriously? I can understand a 200 moneys gaming device having a worse screen than midrange phones from years ago. But a thingie for 500 or 600 moneys? No way. I expect proper OLED displays like flagship phones had five or more years ago. Hell, I still have an age old S6 edge+ flying around somewhere that has a MUCH better display than all of these handhelds combined. A phone from 2015!
Thanks for the review Russ. Overpriced for retro gaming, under batteried and arguably underscreened for upper tier PC gaming ... this skew is not for me. That said if I had money to burn I probably would, it is a pretty cool and well executed design.
I mean it looks amazing but the slow rollout on another ayn product hurt it this time. With the odin there was nothing at the price to performance level so it did well, but that was on Android... Ayn jumped into a market that they were too slow to keep up with the 6800u handhelds. Some companies are even starting to produce 7840u handhelds while ayn is stuck holding the bag trying to get out this product... Love the looks of the odin and the loki but i don't want to be sitting waiting for a year with a 700 dollar hole in my pocket when i can go to best buy and pick up a rog ally or order another 6800u handheld online and get it delivered in significantly less time...
I just wasn't happy with my Ayn Odin build quality (maybe I was unlucky) and the fact they haven't updated it since... I feel like if you got this, it's a dead end, whereas the Steam Deck and Ally are going to get more support after your initial purchase.
I wish you had covered it's video-out capabilities here. I really like hybrid handhelds, and I'd like to see what that looks like, how easy it is to handle. Like, Switch is easiest of all of them (you dock it, it's on the TV, you're done fiddling with things). With the Odin, I have to try and sync up a controller, and then I have to try and dock it, and then I usually still have to do something. It's nice, but I wish it was more smooth.
If I remember correctly, Android devices need to restart when they get video out connected. For Windows it's easy. I do it with my GPD Win 4 with a dock. I plug it on the dock and it automatically output video.
@@chamoo232 Wait... is that true? I have an Ayn Odin, with it's dock (or any dock, really), and I don't believe it has to restart? I think you just tell it to do video out, the screen blacks out for a second, it pops up on the TV right where you were, and that's sort of it... you even have to tell it to stop displaying on the Handheld when you do that, otherwise it displays on both screens simultaneously. Shit, now I need to double-check. It's been a minute since I've docked it, lol
@@jessicastoker8932 I just tested it on my Odin. Through the USB-C it just automatically output but if you use the micro HDMI port in the little door on the top it will ask to restart.
@@chamoo232 Ah, that explains it. I almost always dock it. I have the HDMI-out cord, but I think I've used it only once... Overall? If the latency for wireless controllers was better with the Odin, I think I'd play it far more than a I do. I love trying to stream my Xbox to it to play those games portably, but I also really like the idea of being able to set it up on the living room to remotely use my Xbox from my room out there. There's just too many sources of input-latency: the streaming itself, and then the bluetooth controller latency with Odin's. I've tried the 8bitdo adaptor, and it helps, but it feels clunky to need it.
@@jessicastoker8932 I had programs on my Odin to stream my PS4 to it and Steam Link allows the same from my PC but I also barely used it because of the lag. With my GPD Win 4 it's just perfect. Playing games natively is so much better. The controls on the device itself are detected as an xbox360 controller. I think the Odin has some kind of interpreter program built in that converts the button's input to something Android can work with and that's one of the cause of input delay. Even if you play emulators directly on the Odin it still has input delay so if you add streaming on top of that it becomes really noticeable.
Was really hoping the UI would sway me. It looked so promising. But seems like I'll still have to turn to 3rd party software like handheld control panel for a smoother experience.
I do not understand, after one month when rog ally will be easily available in other markets, these Chinese consoles still relevant to handheld industry or not. I can also assure you if rog ally is somewhat successful other companies like dell will start releasing their products also.
Just as there are multiple laptop brands, there will be multiple handheld gaming PC brands, what's difficult to understand? Being Chinese made doesn't make them any different, nearly all companies, ASUS included manufacture their devices or their parts in China, one way or another. Although you're only partially correct in this case, AYN are too slow with their releases despite their competitive pricing, but the rest of the industry already moved on to 7th gen Ryzen APUs, not to mention Aya eclipsing AYN in terms of design iterations and manufacturing capacity despite both starting up around the same time.
@@mDayShamangahabash First of all apart from collectors or people living where AYN has availability will never buy a product with same price but inferior specs. Secondly you do not go for any brand that has no after sales support and parts that are not easily available (Look what happened with Aya Neo display, they are saying to play at lower brightness to fix screen bleeding) and also you do not know you will get it despite being prepaid the order. For example you will not go for some brand when Alienware and other brand cost same with same configuration. They have to at least sell their products for 25% discount to have a presence in the market.
I was an og indiegogo supporter for the Odin and took advantage of the discount for the loki. Fastforward to march of 2024 (still waiting) and my priorities have shifted. I got a full refund which is a shame because I would've like this product but im tired of waiting years for ayn to get their shit together.
I've been playing god of war at 720p with a much lower tdp than 25. More like 18 or 20 and getting way more than 30fps on my gpd win 4. I wonder why loki is struggling. But I do support ayn and their products either way it goes and I'm excited they're shipping soon.
Same here. I been playing at 14-16w with most settings set to original and played with locked 40fps. I think the difference is that the tests in the video are without any upscaling stuff. I get great performance at low TDP but I use the renderscale stuff at 60%. I may test it out tomorrow. Turn off renderscale and see if I need 25w to reach 30fps.

Many of those Windows Handhelds do support Steam OS. The GPD Win 4 can run Steam OS. The Ayaneo 2 can as well. Steam OS is basically just Linux.
Yes, I hope Valve’s next handheld device will be lighter, have better ergonomics, better screen, better battery efficiency, more stable firmware and better game support overall which can make it a strong contender against other handhelds as well as consoles with inferior backwards compatibility support.
Valve just have to wait and see what Nintendo does first before they can make a move…
My only fear is that the console makers manages to scares Valve enough into preventing emulation on it.
@@peite7878yeah, why not watch the best so it? Nintendo lol
I’m not in the market for a new heavy hitter of a handheld, but damn are we living in the age of powerhouse handheld systems - and I love it!
That said, Valve really has set the bar in terms of price and performance.
Too bad they won’t sell more than 5M. Beat handhelds that actually set the bar for price and performance sell 100Ms
I feel like the next Loki will be much better and probably have way better timing. Although i already have the ally and that's probably all I need for the next 5 years or so
Knowing Ayn, they'll start talking about the next Loki before initial pre-order deliveries are caught up, collect orders, and go silent while the Odin 2 is being developed.
thats what they said about the loki, and that they had learned their lesson fro the odin launch
@@ca9inec0mic58 So, naturally, they started talking about the Odin 2 before engineering samples for the Loki went out
Dude, that's exactly the reason I bailed on the AOKZOE A1 Pro and went with the Ally.
If you pre-order a AYN Loki Max today and receive by 1st quarter of 2025 I'd be amazed.
Detective Sandy Vagina found the perp on the beach, at great personal cost.
It's making you cranky.
That for me is the biggest issue for a lot of these handheld brands
I went with the Asus
Exactly this. By the time they actually ship your preorder, they have already announced a newer model. F* that. Better off with Valve or ASUS who will support their products for several years.
@@Christian-eq7uhhow is it ? I’ve heard mixed reviews
That's standard if you're into custom keyboards lmao.
Excellent dividing the first impression and the review video, keeping the videos shorter 👏👏👏
you've been killing it with these shirts lately, love the guitar pedal at the drive in shirt you had on today.
What is impressive is battery life of this, at 15W beyond 2hrs is really good.... Imagine if it had 7840U
Right?! Then it could get a slight performance boost in the higher TDP ranges
Pin this man, Russ!
Lol, always love when he says that
I love the form factor and design of the loki, those grips like nice and easy on the hands, unlike the ally. However yeah it's a tough sell when you can get better performance for less with the ally.
Performance isn't everything, size and battery life matter too. I will easily take this over the big large ally which is harder to take around and heavier
I would even go further and buy an open box ROG Ally instead of the Loki Max, especially if it’s only $560
That At the Drive-in shirt is great
Thx russ thx all of all these reviews it's great to see someone give the smart choice rather the I'm being paid choice...I know it has it features in smaller size etc. but buying out a local store with local support is a no brainer
Luz perfeita na captura de video. Parabéns ❤ e obrigado pelo Review
Like the look of the Loki Max. I think the screen is a miss though. Playing Cyberpunk 2077 on the Steam Deck the text is already hard to read and a smaller screen than that just seems like a bad idea for a device targeting PC games.
I want to get a handheld for ps play and maybe emulating gb games I didn't even think about size of text while playing cyber punk that's good point thank you
Mini pro and zero are where I think they will shine with the Loki devices tbh
I preordered the Loki Max over a year ago and still no word on when it will ship to me. 🤷🏽♂️
They learned absolutely nothing from the Odin and Odin lite.
I preordered a Loki mini mendocino and they cancelled the whole SKU recently. 🤦♂ I used the refund to buy an Aya Neo Air Plus 1215U, shipping now. Saved money and getting a better device (performance wise at least).
@@handheldgaming4lifelso managed to got a 1215u air plus at the low price, but it's just 100 units so you can't really use it as a comparison.
Great content as always bruh
Just got my ROG Ally, but this still looks really cool.
Someone needs to make a playlist the consists solely of Russ’ recording of handheld fan noise. I get ASMR vibes has i bask in the white noise and imagined smell of new electronics.
At The Drive In shirt spotted..... was looking for more music to add to my playlist, and now I'll be adding One Armed Scissor
It's now $550 on Ayn's website, so it actually looks like a decent buy
I saw a laptop with the same ram and CPU and that could run Forza horizon 5, I'm probably going to sell my g cloud for one
I agree 100%
Now that the price has been cut , what would be your take on the handheld compared with the others at this price tag?
Hey Russ. About to grab a cup of joe and sit down for this one. Thanks for doing these videos.
I like that AYN takes their time to make an amazing product but too bad the market can't wait. I have the GPD win 4, steam deck, and the ally. If this came out sooner, I would have probably purchased it.
Geez dude you got money to blow.
Your videos are adictive!! I LOVE THEM! keep it up!!
Why are we not seeing more of these newer handheld pc’s with more OLED screens? I really think OLED makes up for lost resolution, especially on the smaller screen
Damn. Didn't realize how quiet my Rog Ally was.
@retrogamecorps Would it be easier to recommend now that it's $550? Struggling to decide between this and an OLED Steam Deck.
Good thing that I pulled out from the preorder....
Have they updated the software to fix the problems that you noted with start/select and the back buttons be preconfigured and not remappable¿
The rog is definitely the way to go when it comes to performance.
Considering how many games I play using the Touchpad on my Deck, I am surprised that no other handheld computers have that functionality.
Having a TDP setter is such an interesting idea, but not sure I'd want to change that all the time.
for my GPD Win 4 I have an Auto TDP program.
What you need to setup to have the performance overlay in windows, like in the video?
if I have the Ayaneo Geek should I get this one?..they both have like similar specs though..maybe I am wrong.
I have a question I understand that the Loki Max has a mouse mode which is amazing I would love to know does that work well with games on Steam that have partial controller support
its too late for it now, they shoulve focus on the cheaper one 1st so it wouldnt compete with all the new high end ones, asus etc
They messed up. The price of the Loki Mini Pro is now $349 and that's when its not even in Production yet. It might increase in Price before launch. At that point, the Steam Deck base model is a good deal
He set it down crooked at the end on the green mat. 😱
I wanna know if the Loki Zero will be able to play PS2/GC NTSC at 1080p 60fps. That would make it the perfect device for me.
I think I’m going to have to upgrade my pre-order to the Max. This review gave convinced me
Let me start by saying this first, I stay in a country where the steam deck is only now available for pre-order, but that ship has long sailed for me, regardless of how everyone is ranting and raving about the deck and the amazing community support I do not consider buying it period, just my personal preference.
Take Loki. ROG Ally has awful small size sticks with input lag and physical deadzones.
Are you going to make a guide on setting up handheld PCs?
IMHO, Ally really change the PC handheld market landscape with their brand name, price/performance, and their availibility, i really don't see any point in buying similar handheld pc which are more expensive, not more available, and from less well-established brand, they can only compete with steam deck and Ally if they can offer something different.
For example, even now I still see GPD Win 4 as great alternative, because it offers the unique physical keyboard, trackpad, and more IO ports, something that Ally lacks.
Love my Odin Lite, but the Ally seems a way better and lower cost option than this. And can get it now.
It looks really nice
My attempts to run RCPS3 all crash. I dont think I've played more than 30 min of anything. I keep seeing it tested in these videos when I've been thinking it's not working well enough to be a thing yet.
Will It Play PS2 And Nintendo GameCube Where Can I Find This Handheld
Will It Play On The TV If It Does How?
Are there any docks that would work with the Loki?
Can you please try the xemu emulator for this handheld? Does it even work?
Seems like it's still a good competitor to the Ally. I do like that it seems to be a little more transportable than the ally and way smaller than the deck
It also allows us to use any gpu dock we want, unlike Ally's proprietary and expensive dock.
It's more transportable that the ally as it's way more smaller than the deck
Im a simple man. I see RGC and i click the video.
I would love to see a review of the cheaper loki options. I've had my eye on the mini pro if the performance is there at all
not have anything to do with this video, but i have question Russ. What are in your opinion the best budget friendly retro handheld that can run ps 1 smoothly. Thanks Russ
Rg35xx, miyoo mini... Around 50 bucks.
If you want dual analog sticks - get the rg353vs or rg351p for around 75 bucks.
Did you finally get your Loki?)
I would love if they put the internals of the Odin 2 pro into the hardware of the Loki max.
Thanks for the review Russ. Overpriced for retro gaming, under batteried and arguably underscreened for upper tier PC gaming ... this skew is not for me. That said if I had money to burn I probably would, it is a pretty cool and well executed design.
I preordered on day one June and just got an email to complete purchase today. 🤦🏽♂️
Hello how are you, please can you show how make ROG Ally controller works on rpcs3 please
My preorder is with the Loki mini pro but I have no expectations of getting it before it's outdated
I can see the new switch having these specs
Cant find this for sale anywhere
Looks like a banger for an emulation powerhouse. That said, by the time I can get this into my hands, a vastly superior device will be out.
what is this outro song?
I'm very tempted by the power and size of this thing but the dicey shipping times are really putting me off it.
Was really hoping the UI would sway me. It looked so promising. But seems like I'll still have to turn to 3rd party software like handheld control panel for a smoother experience.
The game has changed thanks to Rog Ally. If these companies can't match the price/performance of that device they are just wasting their time.
And our time and money also
I do not understand, after one month when rog ally will be easily available in other markets, these Chinese consoles still relevant to handheld industry or not.
Ayn dropped the price of this to $550. How does that change your review? Compared to Odyn2?
Darn, too late Ayn, too late.
Got my ROG Ally today, and I'm glad I got the Loki Max refunded, 1 year waiting time and still not shipped.
Man it's soo many handheld out i think I'm going to just stick with the steam deck so I can get it immediately instead of waiting.
Originally ordered the Max but they took the biscuit with delays. So glad I cancelled and got the Ally.
