Failure? He started off with cheap cars now he owns 30+ Porsches, Lambos, Mercedes, Mustangs, ...
I really like how you’re doing multiple car updates per video, seems like they used to be exclusively about one car at a time. Love this channel!

Wizard could repair the hole with one of his Biden bumper stickers.

The sound of your ride home is a song only a few cars can sing. Life has only a few moments that sing to us. I thank you for your kind words and sharing some of those with us. Have a great day!
Toyota: Oh no, your frame rusted out? Let us replace that completely free.
Chevy: Your entire truck rusted out? That's just normal.
🤣 Having owned 2 S10s, a GMT800 Silverado and a GMT355 Colorado I know this "Rust" Pain,
At least with my 2001 Tundra I'll be good with the frame recall SHOULD it ever need it again
That rubberized undercoating is death for cars. It traps moisture underneath and corrodes from the inside and you have no idea until it starts falling apart. South Main Auto did a video on this. The only kind of rustproofing you should ever use is the oil based kind. Avoid anything with the rubberized undercoating like the plague.
So true. When Ziebart started, back in the 60s, their product formed a rubber-like skin. Over time, it developed micro-fissures which allowed water in, but did not allow it to escape again. The water remained trapped against the metal, and actually accelerated the rusting process. To be fair, Ziebart has improved massively since then, but I typically choose a liquid spray treatment, such as Krown. I live in the Canadian rust belt, so I do have real world experience, sigh.... 😔
@@bobmcl2406 I personally use cosmoline but krown and fluid film are both great as well. I know someone with an 08 silverado with 150k miles which has frame rot in multiple places and a ton of rust on everything underneath which all can be traced back to it being ziebarted around the time it was 5 years old. It's the absolute worst thing you can do to preserve a car.
Eric O. is a certified rust professional lol
Por15 is another scam. Nothing special in that paint that stops rust. Started using it almost 20 years ago in N Vt where we have intense amounts of salt brine and it doesn't last any longer than rustoleum type oil based paint no matter how it's prepped and applied.
Good tip.

My favorite bit is Hoovie showing the ACTUAL ownership of not only his old porsche but old cars in general. Sometimes electronics die and you are left stranded and trying your damnest to get it running again until you take it to a mechanic's shop or fix it yourself.
I like how Hoovie has a new extreme personal reference for rusty cars. The Baja and now the SS.
At least the chevy SS is salvageable.
@@TheDapperDog402 True. I am a bit surprised the parts were available. I suppose GM made so many of them there needs to be repair parts available across the entire line. Fortunate the parts were easy to get and fit in.
I love that for jump starting the Porsche. Hoovie went for his Ferrari rather than the brand new mustang right next to it.

You got further from your house than I did when my 86 928S broke down - I only made it to the end of my (steep downhill) driveway. I still have a photo commemorating that day somewhere.
I admit I enjoy watching you take on so many cars that can leave one stranded. I enjoyed that too, but being a decade+ older than you there is point when reliability becomes the focus. Great video!
I love your show! You never know what’s going to happen! It’s good that the truck is going to be okay with a few tweaks to the frame! Must have been a north east truck with that kind of rust! Fortunately everything else seems to be okay. Keep up with the great content, thanks!
The look of Glee on wizards face when he said "Oh yeah it's in pieces" 😂
Shenanigans with hoopties like the first four minutes of this video is part of what makes Tyler’s videos so great.
Missing the front belly pan on the 928. Timing belt is more than 2-3 hours. More like 5 -10 depending on how far you go. Rebuilding the tensioner is an interesting part of the job. Don't lose the spacer (washer) under the tip of the belt tensioner. They tend to fall off when removing the tensioner and go unnoticed on the shop floor. But the belt was done last year. A tension check and adjustment each year would be a good idea. That's relatively easy to do in an hour or so.

Also, there should be some company that sells trickle-chargers to sponsor Hoovie and give him some trickle-chargers for his fleet. :)
For people wanting to maintain their trucks for a long time, it's convenient to apply underneath the frame a coat of anti gravel paint, or wax it. Would prevent the occurrence of rust for some time, or slow it progress.
Could be also the cheapest type of steel, low carbon steel. If this is the case the manufacturer should be fined. They cannot use such material for the car frame.
Fluid film
@scott offord waste oil could be washed with water, and in many countries it could fail inspection due to it presence. Using wax or wasted oil mixed with grease, it's a better choice. But if you do a lot of off-road using an undercoat of anti gravel paint, could be a better choice to avoid adhesion of mud and dust to the grease.
Yes, Fluid film or woolwax if you absolutely must expose it to salt
It actually required to annually touch up the wax in order to maintain a valid warranty.
There are jump ports under the hood. You can fix the plastic window guide rattle using a zip tie.BTW. Steve Jobs owned a 928 and inspired him to design the first Macintosh desk top.

If your car is manual, you should jumpt start it in the highest gear it will drive at 10kph ( usually 2nd ). Using reverse gear is literally the worst gear to try it in. There's too much resistance to overcome at the the lowest ( reverse ) gear.
1st is usually lower than reverse I think. For my car top speed in 1st is 40kph and 60kph in reverse
@@PrsaVld i found reverse is usually 1:1 with first gear. But i was also taught towing people out in reverse is worse than in forward 1st, as reverse is "more flimsy" that the forward gear. Not sure how much truth to that there is.
@@liquidjd6400 I can confirm that reverse is lower than the first.
Proof let say that the car cannot
climb a steep bridge, it will if you put in reverse.
I did it on a mountain road in Europe, Ford with a 4 speed manual gearbox
Guy was alone and the car died at an intersection, got to do what you got to do
Never push start a fuel injected car! Learned that in mechanic pre school. Geez guys.
I loved the Blue bandaid on the rusted out cross member, Wizard is amazing.
Car Wizard smiling ear to ear giving the big thumbs up as Hoovie pulls into his garage, mo money in my pockets, man my yacht is going to be so luxurious on the waters this summer thanks to Hoovie. 😆
We used t call that color dusty Rose. I had a mid 1980s Cadillac Seville Bussell Back that was two tone dusty rose and maroon. It was beautiful but high maintenance! Just like my ex who insisted we buy it. LoL
I love it when you said “3000 dollars for the mustang( not counting the doors) that is just the way I wanted it and can drive it on the street.” Except that we all know that you will rarely, if ever, drive that car anywhere on the street.you do not even drive 25 % of your cars more than once a year! Plus, that car will never be anything but a headache to drive.
Somebody has Mustang envy.
Hoovie - you have a great 928 but just be aware there's a risk of frying the LH ECU (fuel injection control unit) when jumping off a donor car. It can be done but the later LH computers (+87 onwards) are particularly sensitive to voltage spikes. Preferred method is to disconnect and put some charge in the battery first, but if stranded do what you gotta do.
Very true statement. I always panicked when my 89 needed a boost. When you have to, make sure the rescue car is turned off. I never fried mine, but did have the ECU rebuilt. Maybe I only toasted it.
There is a temperature sensor on top of the engine that caused a power drain issue for me. Made the cooling fans run constantly. Cheap fix.
Any original LH2.3 that hasn't been rebuilt is on borrowed time. The factory hybrid tile circuit it has loves to dry out and fail. Multiple people have a workaround for it. But at $600 it isn't cheap. The rest of the computer is fine and doesn't care about voltage spikes, just that one stupid circuit (speaking from experience).
I was late to this channel. Didn't start watching until the first month of shut down. So I'm sure for people who have been here from the beginning it's even more impressive to see what Hoovie has been able to do with this channel and cartrek and the auction stuff. He's one of the big guys now I guess but it's so nice to see content creators like this succeed.
I enjoy the parts of your video when you and the Car Wizard walk under the cars and look them over ( a view you don't often see on some of these older cars). I also find it interesting how the Car Wizard has formed his opinions on particular car brands by the type of people who own them. Interesting bit of psychology there.
An advice, don't try to jump a car in reverse. That gear usually is the least strongest. Plus in some models, jump car in gear, could mess with the timing.
In addition, didn´t they say the Porsche has a "cat"? I´ve heard it´s bad to jump start a car with a cat, but I don´t know if that is correct? You are right about the jump start in reverse. I would not do that either
@@sukhmaidickoff all modern day cars are required to have a cat. So no I think at least (might be completely wrong)
@@sukhmaidickoff Do you mean a catalytic converter or some sort of weird Porsche do-da with the acronym c.a.t. ?
@@sukhmaidickoff no its not bad. all you do is turning the engine with the gears and not the starter. it will start normaly but at speed
If you're moving forward and accidently try and just start it in reverence, like in most German cars that 1rst gear is by reverence, then yes timing could jump, but, if you're rolling backwards and in reverse is fine.
if it's a car you're going to keep I'd advise replacing the entire axle assembly rather than just the boot. Not only did that hole allow grease to escape it allowed dirt and rocks in which incidentally wear out the joint faster
Hoovie eventually sells his cars
It's heartbreaking to see how cars in the Midwest rust. I'm happy here in the Pacific Northwest with my 30 yr old non-rusty cars.
Hoovie opening his wallet makes The Wizard & all of us smile after a hard weeks work 😊😁
I can't help but think that the exhaust being cut off there has something to do with those 2 crossmember being trashed.. condensation or something because the frame looks mint 👌
This is a notorious problem with all Silverado frames. You need to do annual upkeep on them by having wax touch ups but those tubes where and are bad frame design because you can’t clean them out properly. My brother’s truck did the same thing and was totaled because the frame damage was that bad. Chevrolet should have a class action against them for this.
It's extremely common for those trucks to rust exactly like that.

Hey Tyler, I have some bigger dents in my car, do you have any 2ft by 2ft stickers ? And I could use a 12” by 6ft sticker for my pickup bed. 👍👍
Prices for shipping do go up, but whoever is charging you 1200 per car for 300 miles is definitely taking advantage of you because you mentioned you usually use them and they probably assume you’d just pay no questions asked. A fair rate with these prices would be closer to 600 maybe 700 per car for that distance
Haggle with them for sure or find another shipper, don’t spend money where you don’t have to especially in these times
Some shippers are awful, maybe the service is more important than the cost.
The 928S4 is still my favourite Porsche. They certainly were not cheap in the 1980’s - I remember my boss bought a champagne gold one in 1986 - it was gorgeous. Risky Business quote “Porsche, there is no substitute”
And I have to admit that 928 for its age is in fantastic condition. It’s obviously been loved & cared for.

This is a classic reason I will not even consider purchasing a used Northern car, or truck, the salt on the winter roads turns them into rust buckets. Ohhhh no issues with the 928, ouch bet you bit your tung on that one.
