This video on the Fuel oil purifier construction is the 2nd ✌ video in our "Marine Centrifuge Separator Video Series"📹 explaining the bowl assembly parts and Drive arrangement of the purifier. A high-speed centrifuge is a type of separator which is used on a ship to remove contamination from liquids such as fuel and lube oils. It is imperative to carry out this treatment to remove solid impurities and water before they are supplied to the marine engine. Thus, the task of the centrifuge is to remove solid contamination from liquid and to remove undesirable liquid (water) from useful liquids (fuel).
They are popularly known as fuel oil purifier or fuel oil separator.

Essential components of the centrifuge are its Bowl and the drive arrangement.
Exterior framework:
The outer frame is usually made up of cast iron which supports the internal bowl and disk parts and carries water line, feed line, and outlet line connections.
Bowl and disk:
There are bowls inside the frame, which can be a solid assembly operating noncontinuous and have space enough to retain the separated sludge which can be done by purifier bowl opening and closing mechanism. There can also be an arrangement in which the upper and lower parts are separated for discharging the accumulated sludge by continuous operation. These parts are typically made up of high tensile stainless steel.
Vertical shaft:
The Vertical shaft is used to transform the electrical motor output into rotational motion for rotating the bowl at high speed through spur gear and horizontal shaft or belt. The material used for vertical shaft construction is an alloy of steel.
The horizontal shaft or belt drive:
The electrical motor drives the horizontal shaft through clutch pads and is used for transmitting the rotational motion to bowl assembly.
A spur gear is placed between the horizontal and vertical shafts for the transfer of rotational motion. These gears are manufactured from the special aluminium bronze material.
A special purifier belt having elastic character is used in some models in place of the horizontal shaft, thus removing the use of the gear assembly. The horizontal shaft material is a special alloy of steel.
Knowledge of purifier bowl and drive assembly parts will come handy for the seafarers during purifier overhaul.

How does closing/opening water close/open the bowl in Alfa Laval purifier? when operating slide gets down during de sludge mechanism, how does it come to original position?

Does light liquid impeller and heavy liquid impeller rotate?
Can you explain how opening and closing water acts for opening and closing the bowl?
I have this type gear drive westfalia purifier for A/E lub oil purification( OSC5-02-066 ).When it start after few minutes start bowl leaking and PSL alarm comming.
What should do when oil start coming from heavy phase nozzle and also when we have less through put I.e 60% while require is 90%??
Hi, why don’t the top few discs don’t have fringes?
We are facing an issue in out separator tht when we go for water bath,water did not come out from the top either oil,both thing discharge from discharge outlet

The operating water at high pressure operates the sliding and annular piston which in turn controls the opening and closing of bottom bowl for desludging.
Opening of bowl is achieved by sliding piston and the closing of bowl is achieved by angular piston . There is also separate video available for this .
Centrifuge pump could not suck the oil but when pump delivery pipe joint or flange bolts loose then automatic oil comes or pump start suck the oil

It helps in separating oil and water+impurities. Yes, the oil mixture goes through it.

Can you explain the principle of gravity disc? ..how it happen to interface the oil and water inside ..please
Gravity disc is a circular ring whose outer diameter varies according to specify gravity of Fuel or lube oil . There are two liquids inside the bowl one high density at periphery and oil whose density is less at inner periphery. For example the diameter of gravity disc is
Equal to inside diameter of bowl then no water can be discharged through outer periphery of disc since we get no passage for the liquid to flow out. So all stuffs would be coming through inner diameter of gravity disc. Suppose if I reduce the outer diameter of gravity disc then little amount of water now find it's way through outer periphery of disc but through very less path at the mean time oil is flowing through inner diameter of gravity disc. Both are steady flow and forms an interface line where at one side Water and inner side oil. And also for example if i reduce the outer diameter of gravity disc too much extreme all stuffs now would go through outer periphery of gravity disc. So is the gravity disc ..

@Emmanuel: It is the fuel that is heated. The water supply is taken directly from the ship's water system or from the operating water tank without heating it.

In interface is non existant, then oil would come to the water section. Gravity disk is technically unique to each purifier construction and it's use is, in fact to create the "perfect" interface between the oil and water difference in density, to which you can also play with the flow

What is the concept of displacement water
Displacement water is introduced before desludging the purifier. The displacement water helps collect the maximum amount of purifier oil before desludging. We will be explaining the concept in our upcoming video of this video series. Please subscribe and stay tuned. 👍
You didn't explained about how water is going out and sludge? What if sludge block the water channel?

In calrifier, if u separate sludge only, how do u prevent mixing of the dirty feed and clarified outlet at the top of the separator, in another way, why is preventing a part of dirty fluid from going up instead of going down to the stack.

How much of the drive shaft rpm, and then drivining shaft rpm? And then send the purifier e-books link....
The drive shaft is connected to the motor, hence it will have the same RPM as motor ~ 1500-2500 RPM depending upon type and make.
The driving shaft (or the bowl shaft) has more RPM as it is connected via an increased gear mechanism, hence the speed will be 3 to 5 times higher than the drive shaft. 👍🏻

The water is supplied by the ship's water line. In seom settings, the operating water will have a dedicated operating water tank.

When the purifier rotates, different liquid will move out depending upon its specific gravity. In purifier, the oil has fixed specific gravity and to get the proper separation, the gravity disc is inserted which provides a interface area between oil and water so that it can easily get separated.

Both the liquids flows from the inner side of the gravity disc from different chambers. When there is an overflow of heavy fluid, then it will flow from outside the gravity disc.
