I've been in the auto parts business for 30 years. I am 46 years old, been doing this since I was a sophomore in high school. Been in the dealership setting for 23 years. Absolutely love all of you videos! You deserve the recognition! You're unbiased and love the humor!
I have been a car and engine guy for over 60 years, and I want to tell you that your channel, your teardowns, your humility and your good sense of humor have been a delight to watch. I wish for you and yours the best in the future, and I look forward to watching what you have to offer for as long as I'm still in this world. Kudos to you, sir.
I think one of the reasons that you have so many subs is that you read all the comments, even the bad ones. I have also experienced on a personal level, writing to your company and asking a vehicle question… and you answered me. It’s one of my favorite channels and I hope you get 200,000 more subs!
I want to thank you for all the time and effort it takes to produce your content. My mother passed last June. A lot of tough times, and one of the things that has helped has been looking forward to your videos. They are fun, light entertainment and help to pass a lonely evening. Thanks again wish you and yours all the best.
These videos are a really good distraction from what can sometimes be a really shitty day 💩. I have put my "issues" aside many times thanks to watching these videos. Thank you my brother 👍🇦🇺🍻🇺🇲
Hope you're doing well. I've been there, and totally agree. My Mom passed a year ago. We knew it was coming for almost a year. At some point, every day, there's nothing left to do. I showed her a few youtube channels, and there were a couple she really liked. We'd watch, and she'd tell me stories of helping her Dad work on a tractor, or whatever. Or laugh about stuff. It was, in it's own way, a good time.
Eric you deserve YT recognition. We all love the effort and entertainment you put in your videos. We really appreciate your late night work. Keep it up!! 😊
Congratulations! These teardowns are kind of niche entertainment, but apparently the niche is not that small. You are what makes this channel great. Never change.
I was a state of Michigan certified master mechanic; I dropped out of that field some years ago and now I work on printing presses and associated equipment. Your videos tell me what a wise decision that was! I won’t lie and say my new occupation is a piece of cake; it isn’t, but I am glad we still have people like you out there, showing us the good, the bad and the ugly. That 3-cylinder Ford with the “wet” timing belts is the most ridiculous thing I’ve ever seen! At least with most of the engines you’ve torn down here you can see good points to them and your “autopsies” on how and why the engines failed mean a lot. And one thing has become very obvious - you love your line of work! Regardless of what we wrench, MECHANICS FOREVER!!
Yes , sometimes it's about the teardown but it is mostly you personality that shines through. Mix the two together and you have a great channel. Keep up the great work.
I'm no mechanic, by any stretch of the imagination 😅, but I feel like I learn a lot about how engines work and how they go together from your teardown videos. Thank you, and congratulations on 200K! 🎉
With how in the dunps the world is in right now, and with the recent passing of my father, your videos give me something to look forward to. Every Saturday night, when I get in bed I pull up my RUclips and watch. Your videos are great, your humility, humor, and no-nonsense approach is very easy to watch. Thanks, Eric.
The 2 things everyone loves to watch are carnage and fixing stuff after carnage, I'm not surprised at all the channel has 200k subscribers. Congrats on reaching the milestone, you really deserve it for your efforts and the humour injected into every teardown.
As a retired master tech, I love the tear downs and the way you narrate them. You're a funny guy to watch and you have a love affair with timing chains lol. This is a awesome channel and although I'm up to date on your current video's, I'm also going through all the older ones too. Keep up the great work you do.
I watch these videos all the time, and even though my wife knows nothing about engines, she finds your humor and running commentary funny and comforting.
Your easy going manner, your knowledge and willingness to say you don't know, and of course the amazing humour! You deserve it! Congratulations on the 200k!
One thing about this channel is the visible pain in tearing down engines wether it is dead tools or engine parts where they should not be. It is all damn funny.
33:10 that lone ACDelco plug appears to be the dreaded #8 spark plug, the bane of Vortec owners' existence. This isn't the first time I've seen a GM V8 torn down with 1 plug different from the other 7, and it's always the #8 that tends to be an original plug. Appreciate the work as always, Eric.
Two engines for 200k? I feel like you're setting a bad precedent here but I can't wait to see five engine teardowns for 500k! Congratulations, well deserved milestone.
WHAT I HAVE LEARNED IN THE PAST YEAR OF WATCHING YUOR CHANNEL: (1) When engines blow, they really blow, (2) Wrist pins are typically built really well no matter who makes them, (3) You are one of the rare people who really love their work.
Congratulations on your success! 300K 3 engines? There are soo many phonies that have channels now. Your honesty, humor, Midwestern personally come through and people see this in your videos. Thank You for sharing the engines and your time.
For me, this channel is like watch makers who take apart dead Swiss watches. Except here, the Swiss watches are for the masses. I went on a road trip to help a friend pick up a 10 year-old Jag today. I drove over 100mph and revved my m52 engine over 6500 rpm. Swiss watch. To see where they break is to marvel at what they do when they are running. Thanks!
I love your channel. Been working on cars for as long as I can remember. I love to see how engines are put together. Exspecially ones you would never get to see inside of. Thanks for the rocker arms and guide plates from the 454 the other day. And your sense of humor is spot on. Keep up the good work and hope to see you when you hit 500,000.
200K...wow...thats alot of people wanting to see failed engines. The best thing I think about the channel in general is it should, IMO, be shown in auto shop classes. perhaps the kids won't be as hard on their(or moms) car when they take it out. 2 engines with a timing cover and not much else...I am amazed that cam got hammered...and the trickle down effect...into the windage tray...wow. It's a shame the 1st engine had been messed with but as you said..torque converter bolts. A great video...I love how you put a comical spin on the carnage you find...classic and great to hear:-) Keep up the great work Eric...in the videos and helping keep cars and trucks on the road from the parts you sell. Again, huge congrats on 200K...I applaud you🙂
Hey, I don’t only watch your videos because the teardowns are so cool, but also because you’re such a damn good presenter! Never a dull moment in these videos! Thanks for the entertainment!
Congratulations Eric! You deserve all the subscribers, I enjoy your channel on tearing down engines and South Main Auto Repair on repairing vehicles…by the way his name is Eric too!! Thanks for sharing your videos!!
200,000 on the clock? Barely run in! Thank you for the wonderful videos Eric, wishing you and your family all the best for the future and here's hoping you can turn the clock back over to zeros on the channel!
been watching for over a year -- 200k subs and not a silly intro, bad music or bs ads. learned a lot and seen more than i could have on my own. my fav part about working in shops were the wizards that would show me their secrets. thank you for your vids!
The reason why I subscribe is because you seem to be genuine and to have knowledge I need experience that you're willing to share and I appreciate that
I learn so much about engines watching your videos. I enjoy them very much. I bought my first car in 1964 and I have enjoyed mechanics ever since. Thank you!
Eric, your commentary is always so entertaining. It's rare to see such expertise and showmanship combined so successfully. Also, great videography and editing. I hope your channel continues to grow!
A great way to bring home the fact that regularly checking your oil and changing both oil and filter is for you to be an example. By first checking the dipstick, draining the oil, and inspecting the filter on every engine you teardown.
Watching your channel has given me the confidence to work on my own classic car...realizing that it isn't that hard to replace carbs, intake manifolds and do other basic work. Seeing how major components are put together via your disassembly is very educating and helpful.
Hey Eric, congrats on 200k!! You deserve it, man. Your dry, matter-of-fact personality is hilarious ("Well, THAT's not good.")! I had to be close to your 200,000th subscriber, but I've been watching the channel for months after my feed got flooded by engine videos while I was rebuilding my own. I bought a 2005 Xterra SE with 249K miles for $3000, BUT it had brand new tires and was in incredible condition except for one tiny problem: The water pump had a bad impellor gasket, so all the coolant leaked out and I blew the engine up 10 minutes after I drove it off the lot. I'd never done anything more to any engine than change oil and spark plugs, but I decided to self-educate and tackle a head gasket job to save that VQ40DE from the scrapyard. The inside of the engine was immaculate; it had been very well taken care of by the previous owner(s). It took a couple of attempts, but I got it done and recently drove it on a 700+ mile road trip with no issues. 255,000 and counting! The reason for that story is that I'd love to see you tear one of these great engines down... If you can get one like mine was, haha. I'm sure they're out there, judging by all the Xterras I see at LKQ, but good luck anyway, and thank you for all you do!
Ok I’m gonna sub since I already watched 20+ of your tear downs. I’m a mechanic and I find it all strangely entertaining to see such carnage and destruction
A Double Feature! Next time I'll get popcorn, this was so good. It had mystery (how did this happen), horror (broken wrist pin) comedy (1/2" breaker bar breaking) and action (testing each piston in their bores)! Also an introduction to Variable Missplacemet, an industry first. I see a very bright future for you, Eric!!
Congrats! I enjoy your videos! The carnage, the sludge, the used and abused powerplants of many manufactures. Keep up the good work! This is my favorite way of spending saturday night
I just passed 200 subscribers, so I really, REALLY appreciate your 200K accomplishment. But hey, you deserve it. Great channel, great host, and it's like a warm cup of coffee when you need it. Onward!
Eric; I've been watching for a year, I 'd like to see you rebuild a motor, don't care which one. this might hurt your numbers, no damage, no torque noises, little clowning.. your really good at what you do. Thank you for this podcast, from a fan. Ed
Hey I had a 1999 Silverado just like that with a 6&3/4 ' bed onit loaded with leather and power everything was a good truck and I should have kept it. Hind sight live and learn. Good morning and great day to you and congratulations to you on the milestone. I just have been watching the channel for year after year not really paying attention to the numbers and just the great content, comments, your commentary, and don't think I forgot about the sense of humor also Eric, and great job and humbled and it is not me either. You deserve it and I will say that I am not easy to catch at a loss of words or commentary myself but I am happy for you and enjoy your working and definitely have earned your way a steady ticket to the big time channel holders. You can't go wrong and I will say that if you continue to be here and work hard and do what you do everyday I can bet you are working constantly between the business, home and family members it was and will continue to keep going. Keep being polite, helpful, courteous, honest, and sharing with the people who and have been watching the channel. Like I said before I have been doing all of this kind of thing plus much more on anything with wheels that will roll with a motor. After the almost 4 decades of auto to heavy truck and equipment repair, not only do I watch the channel and learn. It is a little bit of help that I can comment, share, and ask people to subscribe because of the content and the people involved keep me coming back for more. God bless you all and I will continue to keep you in my line up for years,or until you quit, I wish that I was nearby for I would apply for a job to work for you and I believe that it would be a good Job and keep me off the floor a hundred times a day putting lifts under a vehicle as many times as I do. I probably do between a solid 50 to 75 vehicles and day. I will pass it on and see what the other middle aged ones are getting ready to start working on today soon. TTYL and thanks for your time, work, and help/parts
*HA 200K SUBS, YOU'RE ONLY GETTING STARTED* *Personally, I would like to thank you for creating this channel* *Nearing 50 years of wrenching, I appreciate your enthusiasm and tenacity* *Keep your videos coming, and throw a few esoteric teardowns into the mix* ,✔️👍🏻👌🏻🏁 *
Eric, regarding the 5.3 and it’s rod bearings, LS engines lube from back to front, the oil pump sends oil to the filter at the back before entering the rest of the lube circuit and coming back forward.
Congratulations on 200k. I have never seen a destroyed wrist pin until now. DOD really sucks, doesn`t it! These videos help relieve the stress of the week. Thanks Eric.
Congratulations on 200k subscribers over 2 years since making the engine tear down videos! 2 tear downs on two similar engine blocks from GM are worth it for todays video! You are doing pretty well. Hope the best for you and more engine tear down videos to come!
Congratulations on 200,000 subscribers. I can see why you have so many subs. Your videos have a lot of interesting little ad-libs that raise the interest level. Well Done!
Fluid power tech here. The increased width of the oil pump gears will increase displacement. That means more flow for a given input speed. This generally will result in higher pressures, depending on how the pressure is controlled in the circuit. If there is a simple relief doing the pressure control, it will not increase peak pressure significantly unless the valve is saturated, but it will increase operating pressure if the circuit spends most of its time below the relief setpoint. If you normally have 40 PSI, and your relief is set at 60, you might achieve 50 PSI instead. It also has the potential to increase oil temperature.
Congratulations Erik & Fam on 200,000 Subscribers. Watched last night's dysfunctional Late Live Stream all the way to the end. Your Engine Autopsies are very Entertaining. Keep em coming.

Congrats on 200k subs! I’m glad to be one of them! You’re one of only two YT channels I specifically open to watch every week 👍
Congratulations on 200k subscribers over 2 years since making the engine tear down videos! 2 tear downs on two similar engine blocks from GM are worth it for todays video! You are doing pretty well. Hope the best for you and more engine tear down videos to come!
Twice the carnage, twice the fun! Great twofer, and congrats 🎉
I so look forward to watching your teardowns. I love your sense of humour and your enthusiasm. Thank you.

That is good to know for 6.2L failure. I bought two 07 L92'S from a junkyard, bought turn over great I will be taking them apart before installing.
Congratulations Erik & Fam on 200,000 Subscribers. Watched last night's dysfunctional Late Live Stream all the way to the end. Your Engine Autopsies are very Entertaining. Keep em coming.
Commercial landscape engines are never over worked, Kohler, B&S Vanguard, Kawaski engines are common on stand on and ride on large deck mowers.
FYI I love the Pew sound your air impact makes when you do "Speed Mode"
