Thankyou very much for your video. I have a deep love of your Hillman, as I learned to drive in one . I always loved Hillmans. Seeing your Hillman exterior and interior made me very happy, and it took me back to when I was 12yrs old in 1968. I am so glad you appreciate the Hillman . I love the colour and just am so happy to have watched your video. Thankyou again. Cheers from John (Australia)
Thanks for the video. It looks like your dad has done a very nice job on the restoration. I learned to drive on my mum's 1960, series IIIB Minx (these were fitted with 1500cc overhead valve engines). It was a very solidly made, reliable little car. Rootes cars sold fairly well here in Australia and always had a reputation for being very dependable. Sadly, they haven't managed to fetch high prices as classic cars, so are quickly disappearing and not often seen these days. Thank you for keeping one more fine little car from the scrap heap.
This is nostalgic for me as I grew up in a 1949 Hillman Minx and which was a Mark 4..very interesting ..but the commentary on the dash lights is incorrect..the red light relates to the charging position of the dynamo and which always glowed red after switching on the ignition and on tick over..but it went out as soon as the engine revs increased..the green light relates to the oil pressure and which should go out as soon as the engine fires..I have no idea what the switch under the dash related to and this must have been added as our Hillman did not have this facility..the Minx engines of that era were always very sweet..hope this gives some added perspective...
The car is in remarkably good original condition, and has excellent presentation. My daily personal transport is a 1967 Hillman, which I am committed to keeping and impoving to original condition. It is a great car. The Rootes group were strong on marketing, and though some claim that their cars were dull, they were mechanically very reliable, and had excellent styling.Your Hillman Minx has lovely lines. When looked after, Hillman cars will serve for a long time with minimal maintenance . When we were in Uruguay in 2014 there were many Hillman cars there too, just like yours , and still being driven everyday. Thanks for posting this clip: much enjoyed
Hello Christophe, my husband is also restauring a hillman minx mk v. :-) one thing he doesn`t know is how to fix the spare tyre with the straps. is it possible to show us a video from yours? Greetings from Austria, Reni

The red light is the oil pressure light. But what has happened to the dashboard? Not original but a peculiar gold colour?
Thanks for the info, and according to my dad the dashboard colour is original..? :S
I will not argue, but have newer seen that colour before.
Same :P
