    A million thanks for this video. The manual with the teeny-tiny print is a horror to read. And so far I can't find an online version. Your video is a big help, and well done.

    Before I say what I’m going to say, I thank you for the review and the demonstration of how the machine works. Be warned to potential buyers! You can not return this item once open. The snake is very weak it only took less than two minutes out of the box for mine to kink and bend. Home Depot is out of stock of the replacement 25ft snake drums, they only have the 50ft for the bigger version, and I was told that not only their not have it but there was a big possibility that they’re not going to have more. So in my case I wasted $149 plus tax down the drain, what an irony.

    I finally bit the bullet and bought this. I had a rigid auger that works with a drill. It was kind of a pain to use because you had to use both hands to make it work. One to squeeze the handle for feeding in and out, and the other to either crank the wheel or pull the trigger on the drill.
    I snaked every drain in my house I could and was still having issues. So I looked up the specs on this and saw it snakes wider pipes than the rigid I have (1.5” rigid vs 2” ryobi). I figured between the replaceable drum and the ability to use different tips this wasn’t a bad investment to have anyways even though the cost is more than I wanted to spend.
    Well I got through the kitchen and bathroom sinks and both times this pulled gunk out. Whereas the rigid I had didn’t pull anything out. Both sinks are working fine now. So I think this was money well spent.

    • @bkelevate
      @bkelevate 5 лет назад +2

      As a follow up video, could you guys go over replacing the drum, what to do if you over feed the line and it’s not retracting, and also the different tips available? I don’t see any videos on RUclips covering those things.

    That hybrid cable makes me think that if Ryobi made an adapter that fits in the battery slot you could make any 18v a hybrid tool. Thanks for the great review.

    I would say to read the instructions on this and make sure you understand how it work to avoid damaging it. Also, you never need to open the end up unless you're changing the cable and pull the handle out then move it upwards otherwise you can break the plastic tabs in side the handle. Never run it in reverse like a drill unless the collar is out and unlocked or you'll kink it. It always spins clockwise to advance or retract the cable. Anyway, do yourself a favor and spend an hour reading the manual and playing with it but read the manual first before you break it in about 30 seconds. Lightweight tool for lightweight jobs, but seems okay for that kind of thing.

    Thanks for the review. I was trying to decide between the P4001 and P4002. Finding out that this version of "hybrid" is just supplying a power supply made my decision for me. I don't want to have to keep track of and carry an additional power supply. The benefit of the hybrid tools is that I can just slap on a power cord and keep going.
    Big fail on Ryobi's part, in my opinion. But it saves me $75+, so.

    I've read comments about P traps and it not going through but on a small P trap like a sink, but your first move is always to get a bucket and go under the sink and remove the P trap and take it outside and clean the gunk out of it and all the other drain pipes that can be disconnected. Ram a shop towel through them to the point they're as clean as brand new. Then put a towel down and run this tool into the pipe if it's still clogged. I would never run this down a sink drain from up top unless it was an emergency, and in most bathrooms you have a drain rod you have to remove anyway. Most of the time the gook is in the P trap and the horizontal pipe into the wall in back of the cabinet. This is perfect for cleaning out gook a hose won't get out of an HVAC condensate line, or small clogs in bathtubs. Even on a toilet I'd plunge it and do it for a while before trying this. This is really meant for kitchen and bathroomm sinks and showers, not toilets and major sewer lines. It will probably work on a toilet but if it's really clogged you have to pump out the toilet and remove it, then get a big auger down there.
    Bust out the tools and just do it right. Bigger clogs, roots etc needs heavy duty gear. I think people are trying to use this beyond it's capacity level.

    The part of the AC plug the plugs into the unit needs to be a 90 degree plug to fit better and eliminate any stress on the cord.

      Solely Ryobi it looks like an XLR plug.they sell 90° bend adapters for XLR cables. But ya they should’ve included that.

    • @eponymousIme
      @eponymousIme 3 года назад

      Kinda confounding that the plug is 2-pronged (i.e., not built for grounded outlet), but the instructions say it "should" (not "must") be used with a GFCI outlet.

    I own lots of 18+ tools including the 4001 drain auger. To me the cable is not strong enough and needs changeable tools like the 4002 has. I don't know if I will buy this one or pony up for a real pro unit. I pay hundreds per year in drain charges and I don't see the sense of having tools that won't do the job.

    • @bkelevate
      @bkelevate 5 лет назад +1

      richard foran not sure if you’ve figured it out. But I had the same thing happen to me. I think what it was is I extended it out too far. Once you get towards the end there’s a little bulb that’s thicker then the cable around it. Pull it in manually until that bulb is back in the drum then it worked fine for me retracting.
