I wore out an 8 track tape of Tommy's greatest hits in my high school years. (70s). Even today when I hear Tommy Overstreet music my mind instantly goes back to that time.
R.I.P. Tommy Overstreet. Not a well-known name in country music, but well remembered by his fans, me included. This track is about a man who cheats on his old lady with a woman named Gwen and then regrets it after. If that doesn't sound like a country song, then I just don't know. My thoughts to his family and friends during this time. Hugs, your neighbor in Washington County, OR.
he may be off the charts but he'll never be forgotten.....at least in this household.....a blessed man with a great voice...i still listen to him on you tube every day
He was great. My parents listened to him when I was younger and I got hooked on his music. Brings back memories of my parents who also have since passed away. RIP Mr. Overstreet.
R.I.P. Tommy. I remember my father playing Overstreet's music as he fixed his cars when I was a kid growing up in the 70s. Times were simple and easy going back then.
I got the pleasure of seeing Tommy on three occasions in the 70s at Naval Station Rota. He was 0ne of the best singers who played there during the 70s and nice he would support the troups by touring bases lwhen many others chose not to.
May I add my thank you as well for posting this song, which is one of the best country songs in the early 70's. This is the way country music should sound and what is missing in the modern era of pop country.
I grew up in Abilene and my dad and Tommy's dad worked for the same insurance company. The first time I ever heard him was at the company Christmas party. Really nice guy, as were our dads.
tommy was on the DOT label part of his career and at the same time, he managed the Nashville office of the label...a forgotten country oldie...tx for the post
I remembered Tommy over Street from the 70s I was just a kid but his music I have not forgotten they don't play him anymore but his music will live on with me Tommy you will be missed
Tommy Overstreet opened for Merle Haggard in Norfolk, Virginia in 1975 ........ we all said that Merle was going to have to really put on a show to out-do Tommy - he was THAT good! And I believe "Gwen" is his best (they're all great!!) Thank you!
Just one of my favorites, this one I did wear out, Gosh I wish I could find this album. He was great.... Sorry He's Gone..... Will miss him... and his beautiful voice.
No disrespect intended JayB, but "Gwen..." was Tommy's first #1. the radio station where I worked brought him in for a concert and Gwen had just hit #1 for Tommy. "Ann" was also a big hit for him, but couldn't boot Tammy Wynette's "Bedtime Story" off the top spot. They remained #1 and #2 for multiple weeks. "Heaven is my Woman's Love" also went #1 both here and in Germany. My personal favorite "Fadin' Renegade" was very timely as it came at the twilight of his mainstream career.
It would be kind of cool if Blake Shelton could do a remake of this song and change a few lines and sing it to Gwen Stefani. I know he didn’t cheat on her until he and Miranda broke up which is why I said change a few lines.
Saw him perform in Ft.Liquordale in the 70's,not in the same club I worked as a guitarist in. '77 I joined a band in WPBch,the singer did most of Tommy's songs, needless to say,we got along fine!
He was one of my favorites at that time but, in my opinion, what hurt him was that he sounded too much like Walon Jennings and people got them confused. I preferred Tommy Overstreet because of his style of music but Walon was on top of the charts, at that time and didn't seem to be slowing down.
@@charlesrackley8355 all these so called starz today wish they had the talent and the music tommy had i saw tommy at lake charles la along with charley pride barbara mandrell and gary stewart the only thing missing was a big bowl of cajun gumbo great event and even today after all these years l listen to tommys music country was what he was all about and was one of the best . Sadly, Tommy passed away today (11-3-15). He was 78 years old and will be very much missed. They don't make them like him any more.

A real class act; always nice to me and had time to talk. Just knowing he's gone makes me miss him and that time in my life. RIP Tommy, you earned it.

A singer that was a real talented man. I don't understand why he didn't get the publicity he should have
Listened to this record over and over as a kid as well as me and you and a dog named boo
A great song from the days when country music was TRULY country.
I grew up in Abilene and my dad and Tommy's dad worked for the same insurance company. The first time I ever heard him was at the company Christmas party. Really nice guy, as were our dads.

Love the harmony & tone of this, and the steel!
You have a good ear! One thing country is missing is the great harmony backup singers that we heard in real country.
great stuff, love Tommy's voice

"Jeannie Marie" was also a good size hit for him, from my recollection
this is the real country music not like today's garbage!
Yes, THIS is "country music!"
Real Country Music! Not that crap they play today!
This song was always played around the end of the school year for h.s. graduates.....
WHIL BOSTON PLAYED THIS IN 71.
@MrJayBBluejay It's all good! "Gwen" just deserved her own recognition.
Gwen, congratulations!
You took a man who was strong,
And made him do wrong, tonight.
Gwen, I fought temptation.
But the fire in my soul
Burned out of control, tonight.
You were the spider. I was the fly.
You weaved your web so well,
I couldn't run.
I've got a woman, waitin’ at home,
And she believes in me.
What have I done? What have I done?
Gwen, how can I face her?
When I let you in,
And I fell into sin, tonight.
You were the spider. I was the fly.
You weaved your web so well,
I couldn't run.
I've got a woman, waitin’ at home,
And she believes in me.
What have I done? What have I done?
Gwen, how can I face her?
When I let you in,
And I fell into sin, tonight.

Where r u Tommy .. ?
+Gwen Moore Retired in Oregon.
+Tom Page Tommy is now in heaven as of 11/02/15
I liked Gwen as my favorite song of his,but "little bo peep"was a great one dedicated to the hardworking housewife!

His Son is pretty good too..............
Tommy had one son that died in 1986. If you're thinking of Paul Overtstreet, they are not related.
@@tpage6 Well , Thank You..........I thought they were related.............

Thought this was a toned down version of Lightning Striking Again (Lou Christie), when I first heard it. Great song, nonetheless.
walkerst74: Now that you mention it this Great Song really does. Terrific Catch!🤔🎤🎼🎸🎹🎻B.W.
whats this song really about ?
+Josh Beyer It's a song about cheating on someone
I Saw Tommy back in the 70's great guy, love his music
