I had the original mark 1 with the round frame and black forks. I'm 53 next and it still remains the greatest thing I had. Can still remember the absolute joy on Christmas morning.
Absolutely brilliant! You did such a good job, the bike looks amazing. Loved every minute of this video. So much nostalgia, so many good memories. Best bikes ever.
This was my dream bike when I was a boy. I used to gaze at it in the Raleigh catalogue, totally in awe. My parents couldn’t afford one back then but I’m definitely gonna get one at some point though!
My first BMX. It was also the first bike I used when I got into racing, followed by the Raleigh Aero and an RS1 Haro Group 1. Hung up the racing gear aged 16, bought a 24" Haro cruiser aged 32! You can keep your MTB's, give me a 44/16 single gear any day
..i had this bike..super tuff burner,with oval tubing,mag wheels...bought new from me mums catalogue...wish i still had it,even though im nearly 55 years old...awesome..
The first BMX pads were fairly weighty and were usually PVC with snap fasteners on top of fairly dense foam. Later pads were lighter nylon with velcro fastening on lighter foam. These second generation pads were often sold as light or 'lite' versions.
This was my best Christmas ever. I was so hoping for it. But there were no big parcels under the tree so I wasn't hopeful. I opened a small packet and a peddle fell out and my dad said he would get the rest as soon as he could..... and 10 minutes later he wheeled it in front of the patio window and my mum opened the curtains to reveal it. I rode that thing to death. Went over the handles a few times. Did a billion endos, Kept it into my 20s hoping to restore it but lost it in a move. Had hoped to pass it to my son.
This is golden, I’m so glad it brought back this treasured memory. Thanks for sharing your personal story and your support. All the very best for the festive period 👍
Excellent work as always. That brought back some memories, although I have to wonder whether it was ever ridden. Original reflectors! As kids, they were the first thing that was binned 😂
I always wanted a Raleigh burner back in the early eighties.A few kids in the estate had them.I never got one.Eventually in 1984 I got a cheap immitation of a bmx.I never got a ride on a Raleigh burner.I wanted the gold coloured one😢 🇮🇪
Polishing those old grubby rust less spokes is the hardest work . Hated them back in the day sore fingers and loads of time needed to do it. Be plenty of takers for that bike .. ! Love BMX its pure and simple .
Got a picture of me aged 13 I think with my brand new super burner mark 1 from star cycles in Worcester 1983 it was the greatest day of my life then happy days
@BikeItUK I loved the raleigh burner mate, a very popular bike. I never owned one though, it wasn't through lack of trying!! I had a falcon Pro, believe it or not, I only sold it, (part exchange) for a mountain bike 24 years ago! It was still in mint condition too.
I remember as a young lad back in the late 70s / early 80s there was a BMX circuit built by a local entrepreneur near my home in Swansea. I was a roadie through and through but remember going to watch the races. Nice one Andy :-)
To be fare I was the same, I’d always use a friends bike as a kid to have a go. It’s the same track I’d go when I was probably ten, it’s changed a bit since then. I was definitely the odd one out having a road bike. Thanks as always for your continued support 👍
Gosh this takes me back to the 80s - not just the Super Burner but Bruntwood Park BMX track too! Bust a rib there back in the day. Then again my mates were all on BMX bikes while I was on a Viscount racer 🙄 Awesome build and invoked great memories!
Wow I’m honestly not making this up Bruntwood was also my stomping ground as a kid and I was exactly the same. I’d get around some how on a road bike 😂👍 Thanks for watching and the support all the best
Nice work mate! I did my morning paper round on one of these back in the day. Most kids stripped them back to chrome once the gold enamel started flaking off due to scratches. I had a Puch Magnum as well with the yellow OGK mag wheels. Brilliant memories and thanks for sharing the video 🙂
I wanted that bike so bad for Christmas! I ended up getting the mark2 instead as my mother thought they’re all the same 🤣. Never got to own a super but a friend of mine had one & remains my favourite of all. Great video, would liked it to be longer though 👍
Super job on the Burner Andy and I also liked the subtle editing with the audio fades. It's not just about the restoration for me, it's the video it's self, so another big thumbs up buddy.
Always loved the Burners, my mate had this one, I had a Night Burner, was £93 back then new.. had a great time jumping ramps and completely destroying it... what was i thinking...
Hi, I have a BMX Raleigh that my grandfather gave me when I was around 7 years old. Now me and my 6 year old son are going to restore it and give it a new look for him to have some fun. Do you know where I can buy the stickeres and padsets? Thanks and great job with all your restorations
A mix of petrol and paraffin would be less ‘extreme’…. have you tried that ? I use plain paraffin for oily /.greasy car bits and bike chains… add a splash of petrol for more ‘bite’.
Handlebar angle on a BMX is slightly pulled back. The steering tube angle is usually 71-74°, so the handlebar should be somewhere between 80-85° for best handling. Just don't push too far forward and don't go beyond 90°. That's how the unhoused ride their Walmart BMX bikes.
I think 🤔 he’s removed the outer lacquer which gives it its gold effect. The frames are chromed then lacquered, so I’m sure he has reapplied the outer layer.
The wheels were just polished and touched up with metal spray. With the cost of the frame and it not being a pro burner costs were already becoming expensive. Thanks for watching and your support
@@BikeItUK I'm stunned at how cheap some bmx components are the bottom bkt and chain set always look basic , also the brakes are less than functional . so i guess the idea was to never pedal and brake !!!
@@BikeItUK I had a sliver one too!! I’d love folding the mudguards under the tires to make it sound like a motorbike. We moved to America in 1984 whe I was 12. My aunt sold it for me and sent me the £40 she got for it. It’s funny how a piece of steel can hold such sentimental value. Thanks for bringing these amazing machines back to life.
Why did you paint the brakeset ?....if your gonna do it right do it right first time...annodise is the correct finish not paint....also the weinmann rims could have done with stripping and polishing up ready for reannodising
@@BikeItUK sorry to be picky...its just I've restored a good few Burners in my time (A Mk2 Super being one of them) to factory spec and I see many good restorations let down by cutting corners...its an OCD thing lol....sorry to be the one
Before I get massive criticism I think you come across as a really nice geezer but you destroyed a perfectly good burner. I , personally like to see the scuffs and bumps and maybe some dirt from the eighties. Strip,Clean and assemble for an original burner. This bikes value has halved .....once original decals are removed. Really nice job but now a restored burner not an original one
Hay, life would be extremely boring if we all thought the same 😉. Completely understand where your coming from. Thanks so much for watching, all the best buddy
I'm 48 years old seeing this BMX has put a big smile on my face.
Fantastic great to hear, thanks for watching and the support much appreciated
Im 51 and never got one....is it too late? lol
Just getting this in my YT feed. I have memories of these from school and from looking at them in bike shop windows.
I had a MK1 Super Burner in 1982 in gold. My first new bike at age 11. I was so chuffed and envy of the street.
Nice 👌 a Mk1 lovely! I hope it brought back some good memories 👍 Thanks for watching
@@BikeItUK it certainly did! Thank you.

I bought a very nice looking chrome burner mk1 from may 1983. It’s all original except the chain, grips, tyres. It’s my pride and joy and I love it 🥰
Nice one buddy, thanks for watching glad you enjoyed it

I was poor so only got the red base model, lusted after the Superburner, kids round here always peeled the gold lacquer off as preferred the chrome.

Had a mate that had one of the MKII super burner in gold, lovely bike.
He picked the gold plastic off it though, which just left the chrome frame.

Amazing. Where did you get the stickers from, I am doing restore myself on Mk1 Raleigh burner
On this build they came from MRCreations on FB. Thanks for watching hope this helps

Thanks buddy…I honestly have no idea. Thanks for watching
Great restoration again Andy, what is the fluid you use to degrease all those parts when you’ve taken them off? Thanks
Thanks glad you like it, to degrease I simply use petrol or gasoline as a thinner. Hope this helps
