The origin of this song is "venaja army y chorny baron", an anthem of the butchers of the red army. While the song has a certain "heroic" aesthetic, so had various Nazi anthems at the time. This has NOTHING to do with any political movement striving for democracy!
This song was sung by various Austrian anti-fascist workers movements, during protests against fascist takeover. Lots of them got killed in fights with fascist scums. So yeah, it has pretty fucking lot to do with heroic fight for democracy.
