ATTENTION FELLOW AROACES!!! I have found an alternative to Valentine's day! The day before valentine's day is the feast day of a certain Saint Modomnoc. He is effectively the patron saint of the bees. It has come forward as a platonic version of Valentine's day. Instead of hearts and chocolate, celebrate with bees and honey! My goal (and yours too if you choose to accept it) is to make everyone more aware of this day and make it an actual celebrated thing!
Edit: just wanna say that this isn't just for aroaces, literally anyone can celebrate Saint Modomnoc's day

easy solution: just celebrate platonic love. show appreciation for your friends, do something nice with that one family member you actually trust, or treat YOURSELF to something. 'cuz y'know, self love is also important. love isn't strictly romantic or sexual, you can just have fun like everyone else.

One alternative to Valentine's day is to celebrate it like we do in Finland. In Finland it's called "ystävänpäivä" aka friend's day. Tell your friends (pets are also friends) that you care about them.

But I was in my 20's when I found out that around the rest of the world, it has a romantic connotations. You can wish happy Valentine's day to anyone in Finland without it being weird. Cause we were brought up with the friendship aspect of it.

Me as an aroace celebrating valentines day as a self love day and friend appreciation. After all, in school here we used to do candy grams which everyone did to their friends so over the years honestly it became less couply to me. Just show love for people it doesnt need to be romantic after all. If you don't like couples order some food and stay inside. Take the day to be unapologetically lazy and relaxed because you deserve it. Go out with your friends! Can't pay attention to all the couples when you're too busy joking with them anyway, never cared what the people around me were doing to start with. Get together and play video games or do chocolate trades together.

Hey, don't worry about not having a crush on anyone! Crushes don't determine your worth, nor do they have to be the center of your life. I find that that is the joy in being aroace: finding out what else there is in life to enjoy and purposely centering your life around those instead. Of course, it does take a while to accept that what you value in life is different from most others, but you get there!

This was my first year as a elementary teacher and it was the first time I'd enjoyed Valentine's in years. No pressure, no uncomfortable questions, just dressing up in cute outfits and passing out cards and candy to the kids and colleagues I care about.
As an ace I can confirm that some of us still fall in love just nothing sexual (I bond by personality and I have strict boundaries with dating and sexual actions)

For my aro ace friends, for Valentine’s Day, you could spend time working on 4 types of other love (these might not apply for everyone). Family love, friend love, pet love and self love. It can be a day to spend showing the people that you love that you love them. This can be a day like if your having a hard time loving yourself, you can spend the day relaxing and doing stuff that you love to work on it. Not everyone celebrates Valentine’s Day, but if you do, here are my tips to help someone if they don’t have a lover.

I'm on the aroace spec (demiro and demisexual) and I have a boyfriend but the both of us decided to not celebrate valentines day together cause it just wasn't really our thing at all. We just figured that we didn't need one specific day to show that we love and appreciate each other. All we did was just spend the day together like we usually do and eat some chocolate like we also usually do. Don't feel the need to celebrate it and don't feel like you're lonely, there are many people around you who love you in many different ways.

Seeing the comments, it's worth pointing out that this is an aroace character who IS interested in relationships. This vid is not about needing a platonic alternative to valentine's, it's about not gatekeeping aros/aces from dating. It's important that we acknowledge people's dating goals as-is regardless of their orientation. Some cishets don't date. Some aroaces do. Anyone might want or not want to be single for a broad variety of reasons. You don't have to be attracted to people to want them in your life or want to provide romantic or sexual style intimacy or relationship dynamics for them. It depends on the person.
