I’ve tried all the other 1m+ view videos where all they relied on was shackle tensioning and none of them worked. After being super close to just tossing this into the trash…THIS was the only video that helped me crack open my lock!!! Not going to lie, I was giving up hope until the very last, 16th possible combo cracked that baby open 😅 I’m still in shock that it finally unlocked - thank you so much! Math wins in the end!
Great instructional video. Far more comprehensive and clear than any of the other ones. Thanx for being able to explain this concisely and without marbles in your mouth!
Thanks so much! This was the only way I could figure out my lock combo. It was really easy, since my first number also had the same remainder as you and my guess numbers were also 0 and 3. The hardest thing was the sticky number, it was either 7 or 32. I tried 7 first, and it worked. When my lock actually opened, I nearly sobbed in happiness. Now I have a functional lock!
I’ve had a combo lock that I lost the combination to years ago. I was just about to give up and toss it until I tried this video. I was finally able to find the combination! (Of corse it was the last one I tired but I got it lol) thank you so much! Wonderful video
Thank you for the kind words and congrats on the success. Trying out the numbers is fun but stressful when you get to the end of the list, lol. I'm glad it worked out :)
To everybody that needs help calculating the remainder: A remainder is what is leftover from division. For example, 18/4 = 4.5. The .5 is what is "left over" after it has been divided by 4. The way to calculate the remainder is to take the .5 and multiply it by 4 (the number you divided by) to get 2. Therefore, 18/4 can be expressed as 4 remainder 2. This works for all numbers (including negatives). Another example is 18/8 = 2.25. 0.25*8 = 2, so 18/8 is 2 remainder 2. Hope this helps!
I was really feeling hopeless about a combo lock I had, watched the video twice and after troubleshooting the first sticky number a couple of times I was finally able to get the formula down. I got the second number, it was the 8th number but it was a great feeling when it unlocked in my hands. Great video! I feel like I’ve become Charlize Theron from the Italian Job 😂
40 years ago I stopped using my lock, lost the piece of paper with the combo on it and forgot it. I tried a number of RUclips methods, unsuccessfully. They probably work in an experienced hand but your method appears to be less subjective. The first time I tried it I missed the sticky number by 1. I tried it again and got my eight combo options. I looked at my list and decided to "use the force". I picked the one that felt the best and it opened! Vestigial memory I suspect. Thanks!

"what we're gonna do, we're gonna......" I like the content of your channel and the way you present it, step by step. But that phrase over and over becomes irritating and detracts from the good quality of your videos.
Great video!! I had an old lock and didn't remember the combination. I watched at least 5 other videos which either didn't work for me, or I didn't understand, before finding this video. Finally figured out the lock combination! Thanks! 😁
You are genius.. superb.. It really works. This lock is bought by my dad before many years. My dad and me both forgot the code. but your trick works. It's unlock now. Again Thanks 😊
Thank you so much, it saved the lock my wife tried to throw into the trash bin. The first number was the mistake for my case, the real number is actually +1. The locking position for the 1st number is not stable enough. Or it's actually crossed the 1st number then you feel the bump. Anyway, the only working method on RUclips. Sincere appreciations.
This really worked wow! I tried other videos and had what seemed to be the numbers but It always ended up not working. After watching this and 2 hours of work I was able to retrieve the code! Thanks so much!
omg, can't believe it worked. Thank You! Remember not to disregard any number because you think "I would never use this combination", mine was the default it came with and i would have never guessed the combination myself.
Thank you for the really helpful and detailed instructions. I watched a ton of videos as they advertised "no math". Unfortunately none of them worked for my Master lock. Your instructions worked perfectly. They were a bit more involved but definitely worth the effort!
Wow thanks!! This was awesome. Went thru it once didn’t get anything. Tried sticky number again found i was one number off. Last try of possibilities of second digit and POP opened right up. This is fantastic man thank you
Thanks a lot. I was given a combo lock way back in middle school for PE, and since forgot the code. Your method worked like a charm, it's strange being able to open this thing again :)
This method works well overall. I previously decoded a dial combination lock that I received from a neighbor using a different method and it surprisingly worked. I tried it again with this method and it got the second and third digits correct but it was quite aways off from my first number. I tried the sticky gate method multiple times, but it would never stick on the correct number. A lot of good work was put into this, but I'm not sure this method would work 100% of the time.
@@HelpfulLockPicker I tried it on one of my dial combination locks multiple times and troubleshooted the "sticky number" with no success but I was successful on another lock I tried this on. However, I feel that this would work for a quite a vast majority of the dial combination locks manufactured.
@@HelpfulLockPicker Yes its nearly identical to the lock you used in the video except for different font around the word master in the center of the dial.
Tried 5 other videos and while they all gave me the first number, none of them were actually close on the other two. I couldn't tell the difference between the two options but it ended up only taking me 5 tries. I've had this lock for years and would just occasionally try some combinations seeing if I could get it open, thanks for finally giving me the answer!
I had to try it multiple times but I finally got it. Thank you for this. I don't really need the lock, but I do like the challenge and am happy for that experience.
Thank you so much for such an amazing video! I've had two of these locks for years that I haven't used because I forgot the combinations too. Now with your help I'm able to use the locks again. Thank you once again!!!
My Brinks had a solid sticking point at 29 after many many hours i shimmied it open and looked at the physical disks. Turns out you need to subtract 5 on my lock and then the math finally works out to get the right numbers. Tried on my master lock and easily opened it using the guide so great work there.
That is strange but Brinks coild have a slightly different mechanism. There are a few locks like the Bell ones which are even easier to decode. Either way congrats on the open!
Thanks a lot, my girlfriend bought this lock at a pool. She did not figure out how to use it, so she brought it home. Nobody knew the number. There was no instruction or a hint with the code. I watched your video, followed all the steps and opened it. Yay! :)
Glad this works for some people. I've spent hours I'll never get back. Fortunately there is a form I can mail to master lock to find out my combination. It will take a few weeks but I can be doing something else while I wait
I was able to open my uline work lock! Initially I had the wrong sticky number and my remainder was off (it was a decimal), but when I tried another sticky number (the digit right beside) my remainder became a whole number, and it worked. Thank you!
Holy crap! this actually worked. I've watched 20 other videos with no luck. If this one didn't work, i was going to throw my locks away. (i have 2 that i'm trying to open). Thanks.
I've been attempting to open a Master combination lock with this method for the past 24 hours unsuccessfully. My lock does have a key hole on the back of it, not sure if this is true with all Master Combination locks. Is it potentially a different version and this method is incompatible?
Tried this method and it works. Takes a bit more time and calculations but it's fun and it works. Very satisfying when the shackle finally clicks open! Thanks.
Great video! It took me a few tries to get the feel for the sticky number and I had to rewatch a few times to get the math piece right, but once I had my 8 possible 2nd digits, it took me minutes!
This is a very helpful video, thanks for sharing the information. I do have a question though. In step 2, finding the guess numbers, how do you determine the range to be between 0 and 11? Is this always the case?
Thanks for posting the video. I really liked your technique. I saw some other videos that were almost all physical manipulation. I like that you could reduce some of the guesswork with the math section that you had. This all started for me when I found an old master lock in the junk drawer. :)
When finding the second digit, and making those two rows, does the number you add 4 times, have to be 8, or is it dependent on what is the first digit (when you add 5 to the sticky number)?
I recently found an old lock that looks just like your which I lost the combination of. I then tried this method and got the lock open on the first try a couple of minutes ago. Thank you so much, was a great and informative video.
I am not sure how you ended up at 0 after you got the sticky number. You dont say go to 0 from the sticky number or start all over or anything at all simply went to the second step. I am confused and need your help to clarify my confusion. Would you please help me?
Hello, thanks for this helpful video. I was able to unlock two MasterLock locks using your method! Now, I also have a MasterLock lock but the numbers go up to 20 (19, then 0). I don't have the combination for it, so I am wondering if you know how to unlock a MasterLock like this! Thanks!!
What genius figured all this out in the first place? Amazing! There was a similar sequence knowing which card someone selected in a deck without looking.
Thank you very much for this video. I remembered some of the numbers of my old lock, but I was not sure about all of them or their order. With just the first half of the video I was able to put the other ones in order. I was about to buy a new lock.
I did it! I was having a lot of trouble with the guess numbers - at first I thought it was 0, 10 but later I thought maybe 0, 7 (The dial's maybe a bit off so I don't get an exact 6.5, 7.5 it's more like 6.2, 7.2 so it's hard to tell if that's a 6.5 or 7.0) - but it worked out the same either way (remainder 2, so none of the 7 digits worked) - I been at this for a couple hours w/ different videos (and sometimes gravitating toward half-remembered or imagined bits of the combination) - and then I got it! Good times. Thanks.
It worked for me was Well. Thanks! The only missed step I had was eliminating the wrong 3rd digit, so had to go Back and try the eliminated digit, which worked!
How did you ever come up with this? What do you mean exactly by the term, “remainder?” I don’t understand that at all. What if your first number isn’t divisible by four? Mine is 13. 13÷4 is 3.25. Should I round down to 3?
I should have in the description with were this information came from. I did not invent this technique. 13 /4 is 3 with a remainder of 1. I recommend google to look up what they are. It is an easy concept but might not be taught in schools anymore

Thanks! Tried a bunch of these videos and yours was the only one that worked with my oldish masterlock. I actually eliminated the wrong third number but tried again with that and it worked, brilliant!
Congrats on your success
i will watch just about anything
Thanks for checking this out!
Bless your soul. I had dual combo locks (with the same combo) from the marines but it’s been a few years since I opened em. I remembered the first number and last number were the same. Just needed the second number!
"what we're gonna do, we're gonna......" I like the content of your channel and the way you present it, step by step. But that phrase over and over becomes irritating and detracts from the good quality of your videos.
Thank you for sharing your feedback.
Your's was the only video that worked for me out of the countless ones i've already tried. Thanks so much❤❤
My first number was 38 and it messed with my brain and my combination.
If you have a hard time with this try one of the online calculators
Mines 38 to lol and 3 divided by 4 is not a whole number
Great video!! I had an old lock and didn't remember the combination. I watched at least 5 other videos which either didn't work for me, or I didn't understand, before finding this video. Finally figured out the lock combination! Thanks! 😁
Congrats on the success!
Dont like math? Heres a calculator that does it for you!!
All this guy did was copy what another person figured out.
you could technically make that statement for every how to video out there. Either way, I hope you found it interesting and helpful :-)
You are genius.. superb.. It really works. This lock is bought by my dad before many years. My dad and me both forgot the code. but your trick works. It's unlock now. Again Thanks 😊
I didn't create the method but I am happy to share it with others. I am glad that this video helped!
Thank you for the kind words and I am glad it helped!
This really worked wow! I tried other videos and had what seemed to be the numbers but It always ended up not working. After watching this and 2 hours of work I was able to retrieve the code! Thanks so much!
Congrats 👏
Thanks so much for this. I had one of these that I hadn't used since 2010 and it worked perfectly for retrieving my combo.
omg, can't believe it worked. Thank You! Remember not to disregard any number because you think "I would never use this combination", mine was the default it came with and i would have never guessed the combination myself.
Congrats on the success
Thank you for the really helpful and detailed instructions. I watched a ton of videos as they advertised "no math". Unfortunately none of them worked for my Master lock. Your instructions worked perfectly. They were a bit more involved but definitely worth the effort!
Congrats on the successful I am glad it worked out :-)
Wow thanks!!
I've watched a few of these decoding videos. Your is by far the clearest and easiest to understand. Thanks for passing along this knowledge.
thank you for the kind words and I'm glad it helped :-)
I'd forgotten the combo to a lock I bought almost 20 years ago, and this worked! Thank you!!
Thank you for the kind words! Why do you feel it would not work 100% of the time?
@@HelpfulLockPicker I tried it on one of my dial combination locks multiple times and troubleshooted the "sticky number" with no success but I was successful on another lock I tried this on. However, I feel that this would work for a quite a vast majority of the dial combination locks manufactured.
Steele was it master lock brand?
@@HelpfulLockPicker Yes its nearly identical to the lock you used in the video except for different font around the word master in the center of the dial.
Tried 5 other videos and while they all gave me the first number, none of them were actually close on the other two. I couldn't tell the difference between the two options but it ended up only taking me 5 tries. I've had this lock for years and would just occasionally try some combinations seeing if I could get it open, thanks for finally giving me the answer!
Thank you for the kind words and I am glad it helped!
It worked!! After watching 5 other videos... this is the only one that worked!
I am glad it helped!
Thank you for the kind words and I am glad it helps!
Yay! :)
Glad I could help
Glad this works for some people. I've spent hours I'll never get back. Fortunately there is a form I can mail to master lock to find out my combination. It will take a few weeks but I can be doing something else while I wait
that seems like a reasonable approach
This worked!! I was so so skeptical as I was working through, but on my second possible combo that I was testing it popped right open! Incredible
Thank you for the kind words and I am glad it helped
Wow!! I came into this video wanting to decode a lock but also thinking that it would be super hard. You made everything so clear!! Thank you!!
Thank you for the kind words. I am glad it helps
Well Anna, how did you get on?
Have you ever tried this on a Bell lock? I have one that I don't know the combo for in my bike. I'm having trouble with the guess numbers.
No but I think they may use a different algorithm
I was able to open my uline work lock! Initially I had the wrong sticky number and my remainder was off (it was a decimal), but when I tried another sticky number (the digit right beside) my remainder became a whole number, and it worked. Thank you!
I watched a video before this one and I was so confused and frustrated but this method worked for me... this is so cool.
Glad it helped!
Holy crap! this actually worked. I've watched 20 other videos with no luck. If this one didn't work, i was going to throw my locks away. (i have 2 that i'm trying to open). Thanks.
Glad I could help
I've been attempting to open a Master combination lock with this method for the past 24 hours unsuccessfully. My lock does have a key hole on the back of it, not sure if this is true with all Master Combination locks. Is it potentially a different version and this method is incompatible?
Tried this method and it works. Takes a bit more time and calculations but it's fun and it works. Very satisfying when the shackle finally clicks open! Thanks.
Thanks for checking it out! I'm glad you had success :)
Great video! It took me a few tries to get the feel for the sticky number and I had to rewatch a few times to get the math piece right, but once I had my 8 possible 2nd digits, it took me minutes!
Finally this video worked and the lock is open! Seems to be more foolproof than other videos here.
Thank you for checking it out and I am glad it worked out!
If anybody is stuck, try adding or subtracting 1 number from your sticky number. (It worked for me)
Then did you redo all your previous calculations based on the new sticky number?
This is a very helpful video, thanks for sharing the information. I do have a question though. In step 2, finding the guess numbers, how do you determine the range to be between 0 and 11? Is this always the case?
It's because when you add ten the play repeats itself so you get a false guess. 11 is the lowest number you can get.
this was the easiest and most helpful video I could find! when I was testing them out and my lock opened, I was in shock! thanks so much!
Glad it helped!
Thanks for posting the video. I really liked your technique. I saw some other videos that were almost all physical manipulation. I like that you could reduce some of the guesswork with the math section that you had. This all started for me when I found an old master lock in the junk drawer. :)
I did not create this technique but I like it as well. Thanks for checking it out and I hope it is helpful :)
When finding the second digit, and making those two rows, does the number you add 4 times, have to be 8, or is it dependent on what is the first digit (when you add 5 to the sticky number)?
I tried other methods and it wasnt working until this one. thank you so much!!! The math is worth it trust me
I am glad it helps!
I recently found an old lock that looks just like your which I lost the combination of. I then tried this method and got the lock open on the first try a couple of minutes ago. Thank you so much, was a great and informative video.
Thank you for the kind words and I am glad it helped
OMG, it worked🎉😂
Just remember that you need at least one full revolution for the second digit(must pass the first digit once).
I am not sure how you ended up at 0 after you got the sticky number. You dont say go to 0 from the sticky number or start all over or anything at all simply went to the second step. I am confused and need your help to clarify my confusion. Would you please help me?
I would recommend reading the document I made linked in the description
This video is the only video that worked for me. Math is great!
Thank you for the kind words!
Thank you! I tried following a couple different videos and this is the only one that worked for me!
Thank you for the kind words and I am glad it helped!
Amazing, I did it! Thank you! Tried a bunch of videos and this one was the one that did it for me! Amazing! Thank you!
Hello, thanks for this helpful video. I was able to unlock two MasterLock locks using your method!
Now, I also have a MasterLock lock but the numbers go up to 20 (19, then 0). I don't have the combination for it, so I am wondering if you know how to unlock a MasterLock like this!
Thanks!!
Check out Swynndla, he is by far better than me at these and he loves answering questions. I am not sure
Bought a lock at home depot to try this out. Worked! Fascinating!
Congrats on the success!
Woohoo!! I had a lock sitting around for a couple of years, the combination was lost when new. This method allowed me to find it! Thanks so much!
Thank you for the kind words and I'm glad it helped :-)
Tried a bunch of different videos. This is the only one that worked. Holy crap.
Congrats on the success!
What genius figured all this out in the first place? Amazing!
There was a similar sequence knowing which card someone selected in a deck without looking.
I believe I have the person linked in the description
Thank you very much for this video. I remembered some of the numbers of my old lock, but I was not sure about all of them or their order. With just the first half of the video I was able to put the other ones in order. I was about to buy a new lock.
Thank you for the kind words and I am glad this helped!
@@HelpfulLockPicker Thank YOU for taking the time to record, edit and post the video.
Legend!!! I was able to get the code for my daughters lock. Thank you 🙏🙏🙏
Congrats on the success assuming it was your lock / had permission to open it.
Wow, I got it to work. I wrote two sets of numbers *alternate and guess (instead of which one felt looser) and it worked. Awesome!
Congrats on the success
Good times. Thanks.
Congrats on the success! This can be a little bit of a learning curve but it is certainly fun once you crack your first one :-)
