I've been reading a lot of Puritan writings and papers. The language is pretty sophisticated, but the use of it is so rich! I can't believe after reading them that the only image I have been presented of the Puritans is the one from The Scarlet Letter. These peeps were human of course, but they deserve so much better recognition than mere "legalists."

Satan has worked in our schools and culture in a way that the only things people associate the puritans with now are the Salem witch trials and legalism.

Thanks for sharing! I am currently listening to some good old puritans. John Owen, Jonathan Edwards and others. If that doesn't warm your hearth, maybe there is problem with your hearth. So true! We can hold on to promises, if we are genuinely born again, it will give us strenght to carry on. The complete fulfillment of the promises awaits us when we meet up with our Saviour Jesus Christ in Heaven to be with Him for all eternity! So I am learning to be content with what I have now concerning my earthly well being for the most precious promises are about our salvation and conformaty to the likeness of Christ 2. Peter 1:3-11🙂

If he really understood the promise is, he would understand it is to you and your seed and not be a Baptist. Also, he would understand purity of worship as the Puritans saw it as well.

Mark Jones has promoted a doctrine of Justification by faith plus works (so openly that one Presbyterian scholar cautioned him against becoming Norman Shepherd 2.0). In case anyone is wondering, that's called false teaching.

A little research into the Puritans will lead you to wonder if any of them are in heaven. Cutting off ears, branding people, and starving and hanging women is their history. I had no idea that was the case, but after my research, I question any theology they put forth.

I don't know anything about Paul Washer; but I do KNOW that Jesus and the apostles taught what is nicknamed Calvinism! Read the New Testament and you will find that grace is Sovereign! "For the children being NOT YET BORN, neither having done anything good or evil, that the PURPOSE OF GOD ACCORDING TO ELECTION MIGHT STAND, NOT OF WORKS, BUT OF HIM THAT CALLETH...... I will have mercy ON WHOM I WILL HAVE MERCY, AND I WILL HAVE COMPASSION ON WHOM I WILL HAVE COMPASSION...." Romans chapters 8, 9, 10, 11, John 6, Eph. 1,2 etc.

Before any Christian accepts Puritan theology (New England version) w/o discernment, a review of history and the fruits of their theology should be thoroughly reviewed. A review of native American relations, land acquisitions, unjustified massacres, evangelical segregation of "Praying Towns", brutalization of conquered foes (displaying the severed head of a defeated Chief who refused Christianity based on the witness of the Puritans), enslavement of conquered native Americans, the first American concentration camp on Deer Island in Boston Harbor where fellow believing Christians were detained without sustenance or aid. This does not include the witness of intolerance that produced torture, execution, banishment, discrimination against other Christians whose conscience (Romans 14) allowed different views on issues of faith. These fruits of the 'Christian witness' of New England Puritans, also, should include a society that produced the Salem witch trials, largely based on 'spectral' evidence. What is the legacy of this Puritan foundation? Is it not the birthplace of religious liberalism (Unitarian/Universalists). Yes there were many Puritans who wrote with passion about Christianity, yet the fruit of their witness, in magnitude and legacy, raises serious questions any discerning Christian should have. If one wants an example of Dominion-ism/Kingdom Now theology in practice, here in history, lies the greatest case study that one could and should consider.

      Background (1533-1630)
Puritanism was a Protestant movement that emerged in 16th-century England with the goal of transforming it into a godly society by reforming or purifying the Church of England of all remaining Roman Catholic teachings and practices.

I like what you said …!! Definitely is the truth … Cause it takes Great Holy Spirit lives or be free of any violent urges …. I don’t consider my self a Christian I’m a Hispanic male a sinner … But when Heard the voice in my inner me and also anointing of the Holy spirit in my life … I was soo sooo overwhelmed and totally some wasn’t right about soo many Christians White European theology go out the window … aswell as my Pentecostal violent mother …. I ne we wanted to know about Christianity and soo many people hitting off the Catholic Church or others assuming they’re more holy Than others …. Paul washer is just another fundamentalist Emotionalims of the Pentecostal Church and I don’t care too much about Soo Mnay dangerous arenas of the Christian world that puts others in a more Poor violent bondage and arrest the minds of others to the Narrative majority …Because of all that crap Im more sick than ever and living a life of fear , sickness and being bullied ..

Puritan doctrine of false holiness works of the flesh , mingling Old Testament judgment scripture for isreal of a angry god toward gentiles , calling people sinners placing judgment on everyone burning those who sing and danced .its because of self righteous of the puritans is were we get that sin condemning preaching today they didn’t understand the new covenant of grace and faith in Christ they meant well but embraced self works of false holiness even the slaves which is the black church Began teaching hell and judgment rather than grace and truth by Christ Jesus

Jesus preached damnation....he said in Luke 12 "repent or perish" he preached a lot on hell. Also the puritan didn't say people are sinful... The Bible does.
