Unfortunately they're both going for the eyes, instead of the chin. I garauntee you that if one of them had gone for the chin, the fight would've been over. Black eyes and bloody noses only look bad , but the other guy can still hurt you. I trained boxers for decades, and I told them to always go for the chin or the jaw. Don't depend on luck.
In the early 2000's this round alone caused MMA to explode on to the mainstream. It was everywhere when it happened. Today's fighters should thank these two for their sacrifice.

When I was 19 me and my buddy ran into two guys who happened to be on a stabbing spree, they stabbed and robbed a couple and another guy. They started following my friend and I we turned around and they came running, I got the left side of my neck from jaw to behind my ear slashed open and stabbed by my collarbone, also my ear was nearly cut in half. They ran after seeing all the blood. It was squirting from my neck like a horror movie. My friend got help as I collapsed a half a block from my house. I had to learn to use my left arm again and it was very painful, it was also winter and we had no power so cold showers were rough. After this I will never box some idiot again, and I pray you dont cause the only reason Im alive is God and my friend banging on every door he could see. People will stab or kill you and it happens so fast. I heard the guy who stabbed me actually stabbed his friend and went to prison, I never followed up with police or anything, I was an idiot in my younger days and im blessed to be alive. Funny enough the American is Don Frye, a wrestler. The Japanese guy said Frye can't stand against him in hand to hand and has more experience on the ground, and Don doesn't have the balls to swing at him and the fight will go to the ground. This is the result of that challenge. This is more the moment you find out that Fighter is actually a Barbarian in a full blown Rage.
Because they each earned the respect of the other, that few to no men ever earned before. They are like two soldiers who survived an onslaught of enemy soldiers, fighting back to back for hours emerging tore up, but alive. That relationship is for life. Stronger than a marriage.
The amazing thing about this is they were both top notch fighters in their prime, but they both just decided to stand there and just trade on each other. Definitely one of the best first rounds ever

There was a fight with Max Holloway where they essentially did the same thing, just at the very end of the fight. Funny enough the American is Don Frye, a wrestler. The Japanese guy said Frye can't stand against him in hand to hand and has more experience on the ground, and Don doesn't have the balls to swing at him and the fight will go to the ground. This is the result of that challenge. This is more the moment you find out that Fighter is actually a Barbarian in a full blown Rage.

The amazing thing about this is they were both top notch fighters in their prime, but they both just decided to stand there and just trade on each other. Definitely one of the best first rounds ever

I think it might have just started out as each one of them trying to get a good start with some fast, heavy shots, but after a few seconds they realized they were both literally giving their all and the other guy was just eating it. After that, I think they both just said, "Fuck it, we could sit here and bang out for 25 minutes and get the same results as just going toe to toe. Let's give these people a fucking show." There was a fight with Max Holloway where they essentially did the same thing, just at the very end of the fight. It was dope, Max just pointed to the center of the ring Lamas agreed, and they went to town on each other. They were for sure going for fight of the night there
