"I'm trying to make bonsai accesible to everyone" - you really do, I learned a lot from these videos and found the courage to get into it.
Same
Me too! I can't wait to try the s shape.
Me too man I’m 19 living alone with a job and a lot of stress I think growing a beautiful tree will help
Well said Kaleb! Me too, a beginner. Already started with Leyland Cypress.
@@khotic-8921 it does do it 🙏🏽
You make it look so easy and fun to do. And you make me chuckle now and then. "I'm not cheating" lol
I love how he finds something in a tree most people would think is shabby or ugly and finds the true beauty of it
I am the owner of the tree now and it is doing great! ;-)
I feel like I could spend days in your nursery just learning , taking it all in. Watching your videos is inspiring me to give it a try with some plant material i've got.
Thanks you so much. You have made me both happy and sad. I am in my 70's and am afraid that I am too old to be able to see the results of my efforts if I begin my bonsai journey at this age. I can only hope that one of my children or grandchildren would continue to care for any trees that I start working on. Who knows? Maybe I will live to be 100!
Thanks again for your patience and excellent descriptions of your work.
I started my bonsai experience at 81, after several starts and stops over many years.March on! It’s the Nigel advice: it’s the process!
After attempting to finish this 4 times, I've finally watched the whole thing! I kept falling asleep lol. Not because I was bored, it's super interesting to watch, but because the whole video is just so peaceful! His voice, the snipping, the power saw in the distance. Great vid!
He is like the Bob Ross of Bonsai :D
You have become an important component in my personal mental health program. Seriously, thank you
Are you a medical doctor Sir? If so, I am honoured by your remark.
I know right?!God Bless!!
Sir, I really enjoy listening to you speak! You’re incredibly well spoken and a joy to watch
JeremiahJJay you took the words right out of my mouth, so relaxing listening to Peter talk and very humbling at the same time. So much to learn 😊
Very interesting and informative. I love how you 'think out loud' whilst working.
This is the only place I have seen bonsai explained so simply. Most of the time I feel there is a lot of implied knowledge that I do not have. I know nothing about this subject and you are helping me a lot.
Thank you
Bonsai Class, the most thoughhtful philosophical moments of the day- where we all have a front row seat.
Dear Mr. Chan! Thank you very much for your job. In Russia we have very few bonsai masterclasses. Indeed, making such lovely trees is not so difficult. Great thanks with love from Russia!!!
Thank you so much! I just picked out a little spruce tree from my work (which we wouldnt be able to sell, so we got to take one home if we wanted), and I wanted to look up some care tips and maybe tips on how to shape it without damaging it. Well i was pleasantly surprised when you picked 2 spruce cuttings that were the same ones as i got, and showed how much fun you can have with them. I intend to keep mine quite straight, because its trunk is already a good 1 centimeter thick and quite stiff. But i might pick up some more when they're being sold at a discount, or when i see them being thrown out after the holidays.
This video just puts a smile on my face. When getting into researching bonsai you quickly stumble upon people who have all these exotic species, and make it seem like you need to already have this vast knowledge before even getting started. But this is incredibly intimidating if you just start out. However this video really tells you to just go out and get one, especially if you get a resiliant plant like these spruce, it's almost hard to mess it up. I'll definitely be getting back into bonsai, thank you once again!
You sir, are a global treasure.
You explain very well, your stories are entertaining to listen to and I've started collecting free tree seedlings from my yard to make Bonsai with thanks to you. Thank you for making the art easy and accessible for us mere mortals ;)
He teaches bonsai in a way that makes it attainable to those who either don’t have the money to invest or have less than a green thumb. I feel like a properly trained bonsai master!
I am learning so much and truly enjoying your videos.
I can't wait for those little Christmas trees to start popping up at the store in a few weeks, I've been wanting to start one ever since I found your channel
Spruces are my favorite trees! I have 3 in training to be bonsai, including my personal favorite Colorado blue spruce.
AWESOME!!
iv been making bonsai for almost a year now and its a lovely adventure in the world of bonsai there is no such thing as whats right and whats wrong and theres no such thing as perfection i do not believe in perfect its all about learning, bonsai should be acceptable to everyone's ability and im still learning all the time.
The little tree is so cute ☺
I truly appreciate your comments about making bonsai accessible for all. I have grown bonsai for many years and still consider myself an amateur. I just enjoy the challenge and peace sitting in my garden looking at my trees gives me. I'm encouraging my children to also love this peaceful hobby. Thank you for your continued support of us amateurs
"Accessible". Not a word you hear very often in bonsai. I would rather work on material that is accessible to me at garden centers. Thank you so much for showing me that this is within my reach! Also, I found the video very clear. Your one man technique is a success. Thank you again!!!
You are an exceptional teacher. We appreciate you and your experience is priceless. Self video yourself is perfect for us. Bonsai made easy! Thank you!
I've turned my european cypress into a wonderful windswept semi cascading bonsai.
I enjoy watching your videos Peter, you truly open my eyes for the love of bonsai.
Really nice to see how you don’t consider any trees trash and always try to save them. Even in other videos where you find tiny seedlings growing in the pots of bigger trees and pot them up instead of discarding them.
3rd or 4th time watching this and your other picea videos. 2nd try at a dwarf spruce and totally nailed it(i butchered one last yr around this time my first ever try at bonsai haha). did a low hang branch full christmas tree style 18-20inches. all it needs is mini presents wrapped up under it. gonna make them with the kiddo after school. its going to be our center piece on the table for Christmas dinner . then it will stay protected till spring. thanks mr peter chan hope you have wonderful holidays. ;-)
Wonderful rescue tree! Thank you sir for your lessons.
Nothing you do is mundane...love every moment!
I am 64 years old and can clearly see from your teachings that I can do Bonsai now without having to wait for years to see results. Thank you
Wonderful! I just love your very relaxed approach to bonsai... There are so many “experts” out there, with too many rules, dos and don’ts , making it so hard for others to understand this form of art. I started with a one day speedy course... then I found your tutorials and now I have a forest, a big penjing and a beautiful single Chinese Elm ... I just observe how trees behave in nature and try to mimic it... Easy and commun sense... Thank you 🙏 you are a treasure in the world of bonsai 🤗
Youre the best team Heron! Im beginner and youre videos have been huge for me. ABC. Thats the best medicine. Regards from Finland!
Love watching you achieve these trees , will attempt to do the same with mine and hope it turns out as well as yours thank you for this tutorial
I’ve watched this the first time you made this video and I find myself watching it over and over again.
Just can’t stop thinking about your style of cutting and wiring and then looking at my tree and seeing the end result.
My trees look so nice now and I have you to thank for what you do. Thank you 🙏
Attempted my 1st bonsai today. Used the same tree as this video. Thank you for giving me the courage to chop up a perfectly good specimen. Can’t wait to do the next one.
"if it works, i can do a lot more videos.." it works, let's go :D can you make some videos of for example the next step of this tree/already initial styled ones? most videos on youtube are first/initial styling or a masterpiece after 40 years of training, the first 1-7 years are rarely documented. but the these are the most interesting years in my opinion. cheers
I have been doing the RUclips videos for only the past 15 months, but you can see our Trees either at our nursery or at the Royal Horticultural Society's garden at Wisley where the Bonsai collection of 38 trees are mine. My first book was written in 1984 followed by 8 more and many of my trees are documented there. Have a look.
Lovely to see you working!
So cute for the poor. little tree that was half dead. So Very interesting and Beautiful ☺☺☺
That is so funny that you are working on Albert Spruce. I got some cuttings from my mom today ☺
Thank you very much!!! This style of video worked out very well, thoroughly enjoyed it. You make bonsai very accessible. That was a problem for many people I'm sure. Books don't explain as well as watching your hands and seeing the choices you make, not only your cuts but choice of wire and discussion of styles of bonsai. You are a great teacher, much appreciated......
Absolutely fantastic
I've been watching your videos for weeks. You are like the Bob Ross of bonsai. Kind, thoughtful, and an excellent teacher. I read several of your books when I was younger! Now I'm 35 and can't wait to start growing my own bonsai! Thank you for sharing your art, and greetings from Alabama USA!
1:03 it refuses to die. I love it!
I am so glad that you don't listen to your critics and this video is very timely. I have just bought two Italian stone pines that were on discount from the store as mini Christmas trees. I was going to set them into the yard until I did a little research and found they will not like the zone that I live in. Now they will have a new occupation as bonsai. Thank you very much for your time and information.
You did a wonderful job of filming the video yourself. When you looked at the camera I felt like you were talking to me, giving me simple to understand advice about how it really is possible for me to make a bonsai. You inspired me to make my first bonsai yesterday, and I couldn’t be more proud.
That is nice to know. Makes it all worthwhile for me.
Peter, you are a treasure. Thanks for teaching me bonsai!
Thank you, I just created my first Alberta Spruce bonsai with your help. I thought it was a single trunk but it turned out to be a double trunk with a beautiful huge knob at the base which was hidden under all the soil. I may just make a few more. You are awesome!!
You don't have to pretend. We are here. 🙂
Loved how that last tree turned out. What a transformation.
I have watched loads of your videos now, in a sort of mad binge. Most enjoyable, and really incredibly knowledgeable, you are a real gift to the container gardening world and this youtube channel will be quite a legacy. Many thanks
I just discovered you sir. Thank you, you have made bonsai accessible to me and I love you for it. I have a "dwarf spruce" that looks like one of the bigger ones you showed in this video. I will start on it tomorrow. I have wanted a bonsai for 15 years but didn't think I should buy one until I knew what I was doing. I believe now that I can make my own using your teachings. Of course it will take years but I have waited long enough . You have given me the confidence. Bonsai has been a hard nut to crack, I have a successful garden of course and have a "green thumb" but I have always been shy about trying bonsai even though I love trees above all. Thank you.
I'd love to work here, this man is so wholesome
Thank god a bonsai video with an english title and a person explaining in english and not a different language with no subtitles 💕 💕
my favorite channel..thank you for your time and passion. It is much appreciated. Mahalo!
Your voice is very soothing and I hope you don’t think your presentations are ever boring.
The more you speak, the more I learn. You are really a very talented teacher in bonsai.
Thank you!
I really like how you enjoy making bonsai out of average material
This is brilliant. I have been wondering if anyone turns their mini Christmas tree into bonsai. Fascinating.
Spruce's are notoriously difficult to style.
Colorado spruce,(Alberta); $4.75 a tree, about 2 week's ago. Beautiful thick Nebari. I didn't want to take on the challenge. No worries, it wasn't meant to be. Cheer's and Happy New Year's.
Brilliant? That's because your teacher didn't tell you that Alberta Spruce doesn't grow backbuds. You know what that means, right?
@@goosecouple you need to do some learning before coming off as educated.
Alberta Spruce back buds well. And Peter Chan can help educate you if you ask.
@@BeeBait No they don't.
Absolutely fantastic video, I can hardly wait to grab a few of the little Christmas trees to try this - being new to bonsai this actually seems within my grasp. I will have to figure out how to keep it alive outside in -20 C 😳in Toronto
I've just recently found your channel and I love it! Thank you!
Great video as usual, to me the self filming works well, it seems to make the video more honest, humble and personal for the viewer, hope the Sunday morning video release becomes a regular thing.
Thanks again from Derbyshire.
Was about to say this exact point myself (except the Derbyshire part ^^). Have a great sunday :)
Me to ! From N.Y.C.🇺🇸❤️🇬🇧
This gentleman is superb in communication as well as demonstration of various aspects of required to make a bonsai plant.Thank you very for your educative videos.
I Absolutely enjoy Watching your Videos. I have recently just got into bonsai and I have learnt so much !
A big thumbs up from New Zealand 👍
I most love the “impossible material” cases. Stunning
The vision that you can see in a tree before you start is always amazing. I’m still working on that. Well done Peter. 👍🇨🇦
Wirklich beeindruckend, vor Allem die letzten Bäume die gezeigt wurden. Eine solche Gruppe würde mich auch reizen. Wunderschön! Danke für dieses ermutigende Video.
Peter, Thank you again for another relaxing and informative videos. It was a great distraction for me as I sit and contemplate my upcoming surgery for an implant of a pacemaker. I am scared shitless, pardon my words. But I am, and always will be grateful for the comfort and escape your videos have given me. Again, Thx so much
Love the self filming! Thanks for the video! I am looking forward to starting up this hobby this year, and you're such a great reference.
Thank you for your teaching philosophy! You empower the viewer with the understanding that being an expert is not necessary to begin.
Amazing! Binging on you channel in these ghastly times has helped me so much, and had reignited my desire to practice the Art of Bonsai. Thank you!
Thank you for your time. I myself bought some pine trees labeled Christmas trees at my local store for future bonsai. You always inspire me.
I did it Peter! I was given a small spruce like tree from a local garden shop and I’ve had it outside trying to work out how best to transform it. I’d seen this video a week or so ago so kept your advice in mind and finally today dove into it! I think my little tree turned out pretty alright thanks to your inspiration and teaching! Thank you so much and I look forward to spending time caring for my growing collection of trees (I’ve now started 3 bonsais from regular garden plants) and watching more of your videos!! ☺️
I love your enthusiasm - Good on you !
I love how you did the half dead tree it came out beautiful
Myself as well, as the "Charlie Brown" tree was a delight.
@@jeanniegriffin1692 it is doing very well in my greenhouse! ;-)
Love the message of demystifying Bonsai and offering cheaper routes in so people are encouraged to try rather than get scared off... This , like so many Heron vids should be able to be repeatedly liked, or receive bonus 'Loved=10 likes' upvotes...
The thrown away tree: "Thank you Peter....thank you....someone does love me." The last conifers would look awesome as a small forest potted in a long pot, highly mounded with a nice boulder or two....like the top of a forested mountain. Beautiful Peter.
"I rescued a half dead tree and made it into something that will hopefully turn out nice." I have a small Christmas tree that's been languishing in my home. Now I'm going to try to give it a second life with this! Along with the feeding and watering video, of course. Thank you for the inspiration and for making the beautiful art of bonsai accessible to everyone. Perfect meditative practice for pandemic times.
I thought that Bonsai masters keep their secret about making a bonsai. Thank you for sharing
Inspiration time, breakfast with Peter what better way to start your Sunday morning.
This new style of video is awesome in my opinion! I would love to see more like this one. You did a great job at filming yourself!
I really love your films and Talking. Its as far away as possible from being boring. I've made my first bonsai lately after watching many of your material. I chose juniper for my first tree, and i'm sure it won't be my last. I really appreciate your knowledge and how you can pass it through RUclips Channel. Greets from Poland.
What inspiring videos you make. I've been thinking about the relationship you must develop with a tree over decades of tending to it. I'd love to see a video of you introducing us to trees that you've spent a lot of time tending to and built a relationship with.
I've thought of buying a mini christmas tree to turn into bonsai and here is a great tutorial!
Also, I really like the experiment of yours, filming yourself. Good quality and one can see what you're doing. Keep on doing more videos like this!
Cheers from Finland!
To make something out of nothing....now that’s a truly talented person speaking. Just brilliant!
I do love that you are teaching just the basics of bonsai for everyone..there are many videos out there that already cover the more advanced. As a professional photographer and cinematographer, If I was in the UK I would be begging you for a job making your videos and learning Bonsai! Hello all the way from Phoenix Arizona!
You can come here for a week's holiday and teach us a few tricks about videoing and photography - I will teach you bonsai !!
Magic! 😊
You always make me want to visit the nearby garden nursery and pick up the leftovers that no one feels like buying. It's a challenge to make bonsai from these poor creatures ! 😊
Just wow!! Thank you for doing this particular species. I have had my eye on doing this for awhile. I think it’s time.
I just bought some discounted mini Christmas trees today just for this very purpose! So grateful for the perfect timing of this video!
Thanks Peter. You've inspired me to create my very first bonsai tree (March 2020). It is a formal upright Alberta Spruce just like yours! It took me 1 hour to do (unlike your 3 minutes demonstration on this video). I've been watching your RUclips videos from New Jersey, USA. You make everything looks so easy and very entertaining. I've learned so much from your tutelage. Thanks again and keep the videos coming! Every cloud has a silver lining. COVID-19 has given me the time to try.
Thanks for your feedback. Where do you live? Covid-19 is really trying - Cant do so many of the other things I love. Lets hope it ends soon - God willing.
I love watching him work! So much helpful information in there. One of my most favorite channels on RUclips
Just bought 3 little Alberta spruces from the grocery store by my house. Enjoying my new hobby. Still have lot to learn
You are EXTREMELY CREATIVE and most definitely have a lot knowledge about bonsais,in my opinion it is highly disrespectful to tell you how to make a bonsai knowingly that you’re dedicated most of your life in the bonsai industry. I personally wanna thank you for sharing with us your vast experience.
Keep up the good work! I for one appreciate your simple and educational approach.
I found a passion for bonsai this year because of this channel
Professor you are a great and talented teacher. Thank you for all you have taught me.
I LOVE this! I have been wanting to get into bonsai for a while now but always thought it was really hard to do. I think you have convinced me to start, I love the spruce tree look.
It is very relaxing watching the process...I feel I could try this myself. Thank you
Love these videos. I am just getting started in the art of bonsai.
I just started watching bonsai vidoes less than a week ago. I made a bonsai from a chili pepper plant once -my only excursion into this realm. Peter is a real teacher here and it is a total gift to watch and listen to him work. His enthusiasm is absolutely contagious. Many, Many Thanks. I once painted icons. Many of the of the same goals here.
Thanks Peter love to see long videos like this with multiple specimens developed most informative and helpful
I have been binge watching all your bonsai videos. Thanks for all the work and effort in making it easier to understand!!
The neglected tree is a lesson in inspiration! Your artistry is impeccable. Your passion is infectious. Your humility is refreshing. Thank-you for making these videos!
Lovely comment - poetic I might say - Thank you.
Beautiful future bonsai..thx for sharing Peter can't wait for the next one.
