    I’m experiencing exactly the same problem. I can do equalisation when feet down and horizontal without problem; but feels totally blocked when I’m upside down. It’s frustrating, I don’t know how much time it will take me to achieve it. And when we talk about those inner muscle control, things are so abstract that when you get stuck you can hardly grab someone to understand what your problem is and help you out. Maybe the best way is to figure out ourselves..

      It's all about becoming comfortable and relax under water. This can take a whole. Do FIM (pulling down on the rope) and focus especially on relaxing the body. Try the chair position. And have patience. Cheers 👍

    Thanks, this gives me a few things to work with. I am experiencing the same difficulties only being able to equalise feet first, this is using frenzal too. I can’t get below 5 meters at present.

      keep on experimenting with frenzel feet first until you understand whats happening. 🙏

      @@gertleroy thanks heaps for your help,‘I reached 10 meters comfortably today!!! I went head first and then angled up when I was having eq difficulties. Gonna keep working at 10 meters until I can get me vertical eq sorted! Cheers!

    Hey Gert not sure if u remember me. If you do, i finally went back to the USA to take a freediving class and after travelling the over 7000km from Europe to America, the class started. Long story short, the first day static training i did very good, better than most in the class. Day 2 after everyone thought i had natural skills, i could not equalize!!! Everyone could but me!!! How embarrassing!!! I could not go the 10 meters down to pass the Level 1 freedive class!!! I was at 8 or 9 and thought my head would explode from pain! I would equalize up top before i started my dive but after my duckdive i already felt pressure at the first couple meters. Even equalizing with every right kick did not help. I did do the extra meter to pass the course but think i ruptured a eardrum!!! I thought it is all over now because I am one of those people that just cant equalize! And now i saw this video and see that i am not the only one with this problem!!! Maybe i can still be a freediver? I will go through your videos and hope that i find a solution!!!

      hello killforbeer 🍻I hope your ear is fine. When I read your post, I see a lot of emotion, anxiety and fear. That's what you should work on. If you get that right, equalizarion will come. peace 🙏

      @@gertleroy thanks for the quick reply. You said the same thing last time about my breathhold issue. But the other guys in the class that were able to dive 20 meters seemed more stressed out than me!!! And had no sleep and he was able to go twice as far. All new freedivers!!!     Hi Gert. How do you recommend I get regular practice in the water? It's costly to keep paying for fun dives or even coaching sessions. I am lucky enough to be able to base mysef wherever I want in the world, and I'm as determined as you were.
    My coach for my level 1 gave me loads of of tips but believes I have sticky eustachian tubes. So , while I work on that on dry land, I'd like to maximise my time and still be practising in the water.
    For what it's worth, I get to 5 metres feet first, Frenzeling, and even tried constant pressure equalisation as a final resort before I had to leave the place where my course took place.

      hey. there is no other way than to go in the water... try to find 5m pools, or hook up with training buddies. If necessary, take a few months off from work and travel to a destination where you can train for relatively affordable prices. Like Philippines. cheers.

    Thank you for the good video. My ears don't hurt if I try Frenzel with a head first. But there's a feeling of deafness. Did you become a Frenzel?

    So how do I equalize past 33m? I'm pretty sure I do frenzel cause my diaphragm doesn't move though my adam's apple does. I'm not a banana on the way down.. maybe I look at the bottom when I reach it and become a banana? I want to go explore the dark blue depths!

      Yes keep using frenzel. Do daily stretching of the chest and diaphragm. Relax even more. And EQ gently. ✌️

    Hi, I am doing frenzel with probably to much force. So in first sesion I can do 20m dives second sesion (next day) I can only do 15m and in another sesion onlx 6-7m, because I can not EQ anymore. I tried also feet first. It works for a few dives and later not anymore.

      hi. so it's not a problem of technique since you can do it on the first dive. so find out what is different on the other dives. maybe you're too tired and fatigue makes your EQ more difficult. Also, if there is no need to dive every day, then don't. take a restday in between. Be conscious about how you feel so you can discover what is different on the other dives.

    Hi Gert, whenever i duck dive and look where Im going i can equalise, but when i tuck my head in my eustachian tubes block and stop me from being able to equalise, any tips? thanks

      Hi Bobby. Difficult to say, but probably you have to get used to the new body position. It's all about relaxation and being in your comfort zone. You might wanna focus more on "straight body position, neck in line with spine" instead of "tucking in your chin". Maybe you're over tucking in 😉

    But by putting your jaw forward, aren't you already opening your Eustachian tubes? Not doing valsalva.

      valsalva as well as frenzel requires the air to pass through the E tubes. Putting your jaw forward might help this process.

      Gert Leroy - Master Freediving of course, any kind of EQ means to make air pass from the mouth or nasal cavity to the middle ear. But I imagine that given you could go to 30 m feet first by just swallowing, you were already doing some sort of Frenzel or hands free

      @@arseniolopeznavarro8868 the swallowing method works handsfree for me yes. So swallowing opens the tubes. But that is independent from the jaw-movement. Moving your jaw forward might open the E-tubes, or it might not.
