    I really enjoyed your video of the little boy at the beach. I usually do just watercolor, but I really like the effect the colored pencils made. You explained each step you made. Thank you for this. It was much easier to follow you painting. I have a new picture of my young Granddaughter I took this weekend at the beach ( San Padre. island) Texas. Driving home now. Long drive but so worth it ,
    Anxious to get started on my new picture. This one of your son, will help me, I know! Thanks again 😊

    What a lovely interaction between watercolor and the luminance pencils. It has given me new ideas. Lovely creation also. Well done.

    Fantastic job. I love this two mediums together. But as you said color pencils take so much time if you are only using them.

    I love this technique! But I was wondering why you used wax based pencils vs. oil based. (I say that because I just bought a big box of Polychromos pencils!:)

    • @EmilyOlsonArt
      @EmilyOlsonArt  Год назад

      I actually have never used oil based pencils. Do you like them?

    • @jillellen2631
      @jillellen2631 Год назад

      @@EmilyOlsonArt Yes, they are downright luxurious pencils! Nothing oily about them either. I notice other artists using them with mixed media alot, particularly with watercolor. I sometimes use them on my pastels when I need a super fine point like for my signature or for tiny hairs. It would be very interesting to see you do a demo using them over watercolors!:)

    I am currently struggling (mentally) with free hand sketching vs. tracing and your view on it helps a lot. Do you find that this paper takes erasing better than others? I don't like sketching on another paper then tracing as I feel the drawing looses something during the process.

    • @EmilyOlsonArt
      @EmilyOlsonArt  3 года назад

      I do think if you're using cotton paper it will handle the erasing just fine. I've never had an issue with it. :) My view on tracing vs. sketching is you should use whatever helps you create art. If you're getting hung up on "tracing is cheating" but are struggling with the sketch and it discourages you from painting--it's not worth it. Drawing is something we spend a lifetime practicing and improving, and tracing is a helpful stepping stone when you're short on time and just want to paint!
