Well put Gil I'm still grabbed by the opening riff , and love to this day the line under the sheets you will find me I know nothing's for free. You gotta love it rock n roll
Its been a hip hop nation for about 30 years now, no accident. Metal from the 80's was too white for the influencers so some change was needed. It took true talent back in the day to keep up in modern hard rock.
Man what a great jam from Ratt who is in my opinion in the top three best Rock bands to come out of the 80's. I'm 48 now and I still have my original cassette of Invasion of your Privacy. These jams never get old 👍🤘🎤🎸.
Ratt was good but top 3 is a stretch. You got bands like Van Halen, the Crue, Dokken, Stryper, Keel, Great White, Warrant, WASP, LA Guns, Quiet Riot, Guns N Roses etc. Too many to name....
I remember taking guitar lessons with an instructor who had been playing for 30+ years. Older blues guy, who had been a session player. Specialized in SRV, Clapton, BB King, Hendrix type of styles. One lesson I brought this song in to learn, but that opening Dropped D riff and unusual chord inversions had this blues veteran completely stumped. (And with newfound respect for Warren DeMartini). I’ll never forget it.
Yeah you asked for a rat song lol. Who needs a rat when ya got all that pie job. Can't back up a law book?? Guess I should go to bed now, I'm cranky and whiny and fed up too. Never helped a damn thing when I asked for it. Usually made shit worse and I'm sure it's the same thing now. Much respect but dammit I'm right and you ain't as far as I've seen first hand 👌. Still stuck in the past I guess. Seems normal to me.
Saw them on the “Invasion of Your Privacy” tour in ‘86. Absolutely incredible live band. Robbin Crosby, one of the most underrated guitarist ever! Ratt’s best album. Even better than “Out of the Cellar”. The 80’s were the best. I’m happy I experienced it.
2:56 The way Warren rides those bends, and the phrase ends on that pickardy 3rd with the vibrato on it, man so cool and so very vocal sounding. Really making the lead part sing in the intro to that solo... And then it opens up to some nice shredding with those runs! With the chromaticism.. He plays almost like a jazz horn player would. He's a true musicians musician, the real deal. Not just a guitar God, he's got true chops. I always think Warren was their musical backbone, without a doubt.
I've seen UFO, Molly Hatchet, Van Halen,(Fair Warning tour), Rush,( Moving Pictures tour). But the two that really stick out? Seeing Ozzy at the Aragon Ballroom in Chicago and in Alpine Valley in Wisconsin. Both with Randy Rhodes. Still have the ticket stubs in a picture frame. Yeah, the '80's were something .
Dude there’s not single day when I listen to my music where I don’t tell myself “damn what would I give to live my teen years in the 80s” in an other world maybe…
Everyone thought I was crazy for listening to this stuff in high school (I graduated in 2006), but I think they were the crazy ones... Stuff still rocks in 2021!!! Keep rockin' Ratt!!!
I graduated in 08. It wasn’t long after graduation I started hearing “you’ve seen Alice Cooper in concert! You’ve seen Ratt?! You’ve seen KISS how many times??” Now I work with older guys who look at me and smile and say “oh man you know who W.A.S.P. Is?!?! I haven’t heard them in years!”

There was lots of touching and flirting back then, no phones around to take video of anything Much less immediate distractions, no girls texting, or distracted by phones at all - when you flirted with them I was good looking back then and i'd often just start rubbing up against girls i met at work in the mall , if they showed the slightest attraction Life was very different then , you never worried about someone saying much , young girls would put their hands in my pockets. lots of physical interactions
Indeed! I was 17 when this album came out, got to experience the best of the 1980's & 1990's music scenes. Music was everything to us back then. It was A LOT easier to meet bands back in the day, holy shit. No cell phones, what happened backstage, at the hotels, & on the buses stayed there. Magnificent time to be young. Things moved more slowly back then but people were more real with each other, up close and in person. You made plans & kept them. A rock show was a major event, where anything might happen. Not as commercialized & policed like today. Loved every minute. Shout out to the hottie in this video & my 2nd cousin Marianne, Playmate of the Year 1984. Gorgeous
I'm blessed ! What an era for a teenager. All genre were blending without elitism, from early Bon Jovi, Def Leppard to Venom, Led Zeppelin to Anthrax, Saga to Heart back to some Destruction, Yes, Asia, Rush, Alan Parsons Project, Scorpions sprinkled with a bit of pop with Prince, Jackson, Movies' Soundtrack and with the remaining of Disco, Synth taking huge place, New Wave coming, Punk's Not Dead, the musical range was just wide open and cohabitating pretty well. Ages of naivety, innocence, playful, lots of social interactions, physical contacts and great parties. I'm pretty proud of what my tribe and myself had become. Being young adults in the 90's was great too. Carpe Diem !

One of the most difficult rifts I've ever learned how to play, you have to de-tune your guitar in order for it to sound right.... I also nearly sprained my fingers also... Just a kick ass Ratt tune. :)
Drop the LP or Strat full C necks and try a Wolfgang. I have a average stretch but you are right in that it will test your pinkie. I switch guitars a lot and going to the EVH Wolf or similar and I feel like Steve Vai !!
I don’t play guitar 1 bit I know a guy who I consider to be a really good guitarist. I go over his house, we burn 1 & start bs’ing, I remembered your comment and asked him to listen to this song and then mimic it. He’s got the chops to do it. So he listens and intently watches this same video on RUclips in front of me. He couldn’t get it & I left after 20 minutes of him trying. Next day he calls me up telling me exactly what you said. His respect for Ratt is now huge thanks to you. Says his hand hurt & he finally figured out the tuning. He played me that riff over the phone while yelling “woooooooo” Ric Flair style--He’s a Ratt fan now because of your comment. You, sir, know what you’re talking about.
@@earthsucks9555 - I honestly don't get all the hubbub over this riff. I learned it when I was 14, the first year I was playing guitar. It was slightly challenging but I mastered it very quickly. I'll be 52 next month and can still handle it just fine.

That opening guitar riff is so tough. Loved it in high school and still kicks my ass and I'm looking down the barrel of 60.
Remember playing this at the highest volume possible cruising by the movie theatres when it only cost $3 to get in and all the hotties were there.
Me too my friend
One of the greatest riffs ever. A true classic
One of the best opening riffs in metal history....never saw these guys in concert, but sorely wish I had been able to. Warren D. is a severely underrated beast on the guitar.
I agree! 💯%!
The 80s were the absolute BEST 👊💥
True
My blood boils everytime I hear this song. God bring back the 80's!
RATT really started rolling in 84 when I was 16 in highschool still one of my favorite bands of all time Warren is a guitar god absolute LEGEND. R.I.P. Robbin. RATT will never get old for me. Part of me will àllways be stuck in this era and I'm good with it.
I saw them in concert and when he stared in my direction I liked to have died... OMG... I loved this band and Duran Duran in the 80's...
one iconic song from RATT.......the intro is awesome as hell!!!!!!
Fuck yeah! 🤘🔥
I'm 64, absolutely love this band ❤❤❤ saw them on the Invasion for your privacy tour up Hammersmith london and they came down to Newport centre wales years later, completely blew me away both times, truly one of the greatest 80s band.
Gotta be one of the BEST opening riffs in Rock history EVER !!!
Yes. Yes it is.
@@wynstonsmith7194 Hell yeah 🤘🤘🤘
Yeah..great opening riff..rhythm sux..good solo
Big call brother! But definitely in top ten best eighties glam rock songs.
AGREED!!!!!
Ratt blew the doors off with this album. Original and cool lyrics and sound. Saw them at least 3 times as a teen and was rocked each time!
Saw them twice.
Fuckin awesome shit! It wont never die for me! I crank this shit when I'm flyin down the highway in my 71 Nova SS! Me, my muscle car and fucking Ratt coming through the speakers bitches!! Lol
This track sums up the best of the entire era! The riff, the look, the solo, Stephen's scratchy voice!
The voice, the riffs, the lyrics, the drums, the harmony,,,,,, FANTASTIC!
Ratt will always be one of my favorite 80s bands
All time favorite 1980's Metal band.
😮
What about🤘 *IRON MAIDEN*!?🤘
Yeah,
Iron Maiden too!!!!
This song still sounds fresh today, the '80s great time to be alive
Well put Gil I'm still grabbed by the opening riff , and love to this day the line under the sheets you will find me I know nothing's for free. You gotta love it rock n roll
ABSOLUTELY!
Saw them live at the Bismarck civic center in 88...yeah, they kicked ass...
Yes Gilbert, not only does it sound fresh today, but nothing today can get close to it.
Man, this is therapy in these times!
Its been a hip hop nation for about 30 years now, no accident. Metal from the 80's was too white for the influencers so some change was needed. It took true talent back in the day to keep up in modern hard rock.
Yep. Getting high in Oregon 🇺🇸
Truth. I don't go a day without my 80's metal. It's my therapy
Weed & metal are both good therapy 😎🤘
Who’s listening in 2024 that was also listening in 1985?🙋🏼♂️
Right here bro
I Seen this Tour in 85 with Bon Jovi.
Warren is the Man
Right here man! 80's ruled!
Me
Me
This riff is one of the greatest of all time.
the first 3 songs (you're in love, never use love and lay it down just crushed it in 85. the world needed better music and Ratt delivered.
@@sicfrynut You`re in love opening riff is amazing.
"For Whom The Bell Tolls" by Metallica is pretty good too. This one is pretty sick though. 😊
i never get sick of the guitar intro. NEVER!!!
I want this kind of music back!! The 80s were the fuckin best. RATT was so awesome and i am blessed to have seen them 3 times. Rock on!!
Man what a great jam from Ratt who is in my opinion in the top three best Rock bands to come out of the 80's. I'm 48 now and I still have my original cassette of Invasion of your Privacy. These jams never get old 👍🤘🎤🎸.
💯🤘
They deserved to be more popular than Motley Crue, Bon Jovi and Poison
Although it doesn't fit me anymore, I still have my original shirt from that tour!!
Ratt was good but top 3 is a stretch. You got bands like Van Halen, the Crue, Dokken, Stryper, Keel, Great White, Warrant, WASP, LA Guns, Quiet Riot, Guns N Roses etc. Too many to name....
Ratt always had that crispy guitar with SPs clear singing. What a sound! RIP Robbin.
Ratt always had an excellent sound man. Their albums have a punchy crisp sound which is as good as any digital recording nowadays
Warren DeMartini was a savage on guitar! Made it look so easy
The Blues is pretty simplistic, so anything even slightly above that would seem difficult.
@@skybooboy whoa there guy, not simplistic just different and not as flashy as this.
i took guitar lessons with this guy larry and he was more of a blues and classic rock player he was so stumped when i asked for a ratt song lol
Lay it down by RATT always gives me goose bumps
Saw them on the “Invasion of Your Privacy” tour in ‘86. Absolutely incredible live band. Robbin Crosby, one of the most underrated guitarist ever! Ratt’s best album. Even better than “Out of the Cellar”. The 80’s were the best. I’m happy I experienced it.
Riff beyond captivating and magical melody! Ratt at that time was sensational!
Rest in peace Robin (King) Crosby.
Amen to that. Loved Robbin.
@@nancybrewer5778 Me too. He & Warren were a hell of a good pair. Robbin laid down those thumping rhythms. Rest In Power, Robbin.
🤘😎🤘
the KING v
this song is terrible, such a dirty a song trash.
I miss him so much 😢we had two kings: Elvis the king of rock n roll, Robbin the king of hair metal …😭💔❤️
That riff is hurtling through space and will one day announce our existence to another civilization, which is nice
Always has been one of my favorite guitar solos. Very tasty.
The blowing of the candles and spinning hat thing kind of robs the opening power cord of some of its majesty. Classic riff.
It adds a little theatrically for me 🤟
Motley Crue may have been the band of that era but RATT by far had the best hooks n arraignments of that time ,great band to this day
That guitar tone and opening riff....one of the top 5 greatest from 80s!!!!
cest le meilleur
Clearly this is Party Metal! Where else can you get killer guitar riffs, hot chicks and good times for yrs?
80s time machine anyone?
🤟🤟 Party on! 🔥🔥
One of favorite Ratt songs, even at 62!!!!!!!
Christ, that riff still gives me chills, its so good it almost makes me cry raft is the best band out there
Freakin' A Right! That riff and the tone on his guitar are the shite!
The '80's. Best. Decade. Ever.
Hell yeah!
I was 18 in 1980, 28 in 1990. Best 10 years of my life.
… AND HOW!!
That guitar solo by Warren combined with the drum roll by Bobby at the beginning of the song is so good! Seriously, who doesn't love Lay It Down?
Everyone thought I was crazy for listening to this stuff in high school (I graduated in 2006), but I think they were the crazy ones... Stuff still rocks in 2021!!! Keep rockin' Ratt!!!
I graduated in 08. It wasn’t long after graduation I started hearing “you’ve seen Alice Cooper in concert! You’ve seen Ratt?! You’ve seen KISS how many times??” Now I work with older guys who look at me and smile and say “oh man you know who W.A.S.P. Is?!?! I haven’t heard them in years!”
@@BrennanBarrier Who would have ever guessed it would have took Stranger Things/Cobra Kai to bring Metal back into the main stream, but hi I'm a huge fan of the shows and don't blame them for bringing back some of the most kick ass songs ever
@@BrennanBarrier qq
The "crazy" people is mayority actually than "normal" ones ....let's rock 🎶🤙🏻
Kids in high school that thought they were cool turned out to be the biggest dorks later in life.
1:41 was the most awesome thing ever, little boy is like "oh yeah baby ...this rocks my socks"
I saw Ratt in 1983! This brings back so many great memories from that era!!!
I envy people who experienced the 80s. Coolest decade ever.
There was lots of touching and flirting back then, no phones around to take video of anything
Much less immediate distractions, no girls texting, or distracted by phones at all - when you flirted with them
I was good looking back then and i'd often just start rubbing up against girls i met at work in the mall , if they showed the slightest attraction
Life was very different then , you never worried about someone saying much , young girls would put their hands in my pockets. lots of physical interactions
Gorgeous
crack cocaine epidemic, cold war, soviet union, aids crisis.

I think RATT is so underrated, this is fucking awesome! the opening riff is just amazing!
My Dad just recently passed away. This was his all time favorite band and his favorite song. I love you Dad I'm gonna make you proud.
your dad rocked. he will always love you. go forth, be strong and find strength in his love.
I’m playing RATT every day to raise positive vibes for Stephen.

They all look like girls
The opening riff is fine wine. Aged to perfection!!!
Take me back to the '80's please😎
Back to when MTV was great and not reality tv shows
same thing happened with Muchmusic here in Canada, Travis
Would you prefer capitalist or a communist country?
Yes please take me back to the 80's. Sooooo much better back then and everyone didn't turn everything political like they do now and this guy did in the comments. 80's was a hoot. If you invent a time machine, take me along please!!! Haha
Where’s our DeLorean?
These dudes have some amazing tunes. LOVE this tune.
One of the best song intros in music history!
It's a great one for sure!
That guitar tone is endlessly classic
It's a can't live without once u hear it. It's razor sharp with a Godzilla groove!
Modded Marshall JCM800s m'dude...its a classic for a reason
Absolutely one of the most bad ass riffs in history
Memories from the mid 80's!! Best decade ever in so many ways!!! Saw these guys in 1985 featuring this song!! Wish i could go back to that decade!! It was "Killer"!!
The opening riff is something I worked on getting right for awhile. I've been playing since I was 7 I'm 67 now still love these guys .
Opening riff is soooo good
THAT is the guitar tone I want. Doesn't get much better.
3:24 the synching between Warren & Robbin is amazing
RATT is essential musical educational material that never gets old.
I was in high school/college during the mid to late 80s when all these hair bands popped up... there are too many to say, but there a few that I went to see in concert many times and RATT was one of them.... very good live!!
That riff never gets old to me & I’m 54 rockin out right now!🤘🏼😲🤘🏼
Here the same
Very underrated. Fantastic song!
The guitar / the tone / that growl.....so metal yet the slow tempo......well written
They look and sound excellent here including Steven's girlfriend who graced the cover, AWESOME opening riff, love Bobby's drum sound.
80s!!! Come Back!!! Right Now!!!
I hear yeah!
I don’t play guitar 1 bit
I know a guy who I consider to be a really good guitarist.
@@earthsucks9555 - Well not to take away from Ratt but Drop D is probably the most common alternate tuning out there
@@earthsucks9555 - I honestly don't get all the hubbub over this riff. I learned it when I was 14, the first year I was playing guitar. It was slightly challenging but I mastered it very quickly. I'll be 52 next month and can still handle it just fine.
I’m only 24 and this is the type of music I grew up listening to. Love 80s rock and roll 🎸 🤘🏻🤘🏻🤘🏻
Bring back the '80's,Now!!!!!! ❤ long live RATT
Lotta things getting laid down here Drum licks, killer riffs, and a slaying guitar solo amongst other things! True classic.

That vocal stacking effect was so popular with 80s metal bands.
So true!!! Literally I was just talking to my buddies last night about that with Up All Night by Slaughter and Smooth Up In Ya by Bullet Boys lol \m/
The best music period! Hope it never goes away
