Veli is a tourist village that is popular as a picnic destination in Thiruvananthapuram district. The place features a large garden on the southern banks of Veli Lagoon a floating bridge that connects this garden to the Veli Beach. It is an ideal destination for a family picnic as there are a wide range of attractions such as play areas for children boat rides in Veli Lake horse riding option and a floating restaurant can be found here. Apart from these there is a long walkway connecting Aakulam Lake that catches one’s attention there are also some stone and grass sculptures by Kanayi Kunhiraman which add to the landscape of the garden a collection of birds such as pigeons and swans and few small ponds with fish and tortoises in them.

you can enjoy a joy ride in a mini train modelled in the form of a vintage steam engine at Veli in Thiruvananthapuram. The mini train, which is part of the Veli Miniature Railway project of Kerala Tourism.
The mini train which has an approximate length of 70 ft. starts its journey from the railway station set up near the KTDC restaurant in Veli and covers a distance of 2.2 km up and down. To give a vintage appeal, artificial fumes have emitted. It snakes through the lush environs of Veli, over a 70 m rail bridge through a tunnel and takes the travellers to the many sights of the scenic village.
