Congrats! New bike day is always a thrill. I got same bike in the beginning of 2022 on sale for 2800 Euro and did quite a lot of road riding this year. I got size 58. I'm 6' 3" but prefer smaller bike for better handling and the Emonda is quite long with tall seat mast so with minor adjustments I got a good fit. Its a beautiful bike - great paintjob and shape. Great for climbing. Ride quality is not as rough as I expected given I live in Sofia, Bulgaria where roads are practically non-existent. Seat is quite comfortable for me. I changed the tires with GP 5000 and the tubes with Zipp Tangente which reduced the weight drastically. Would have bought carbon wheels but you know ... bad roads makes that bad investment. I love the blendr system. I use duo base and mount my Garmin 6 as poor man's bike computer along with GoPro. I decided to go with Shimano PD-EH500 hybrid pedals. However I find myself using the platform side most of the time when riding on road. I'm now thinking of buying Roscoe 7 as replacement for my ancient trail bike. It seems I'm a sucker for Trek bikes and I find your videos informative and entertaining. I'm curious what mount and camera do you use for the road ride footage?
I appreciate your input! Glad the bike is working out for you. Thank you for watching! I use a Go Pro Hero 7 Black that I’ve had for a while and a generic brand go pro chest mount for recording rides
I bought the exact same bike, even the same size, about two years ago after salivating over it in the shop for several months. I loved it, but I subsequently rode another bike with electronic shifting and had to have it, so I traded my SL5 for an SL6 eTap. I do have a few comments. 1. Never chop the steerer tube! I plan to keep my bikes a long time, and I might need to move the handlebars up as I grow older. The SL5 was the first bike I ever traded in. The shop told me that the trade-in value would have been lower if I had chopped the steerer tube. To partly disguise the chimney height, I put a couple of spacers below the stem and flip it so that it slopes downward. 2. At 19.3 pounds, the Emonda is not a lightweight bike. That's okay. I worry more about above-the-saddle weight than below-the-saddle weight. 3. You need to put a set of clipless pedals on that bike! It took me a while to warm up to the idea of going clipless, but I never regretted it even though I still do occasionally unclip on the left and fall over on the right. 4. I'm glad Trek went away from their Isospeed elastomer system on the Madone. I wish they would have done the same on the Domane. My bikes live in a shed that gets hot during the summer. Elastomers tend to crumble after a few years. 5. I further wish Trek had come up with a name other than Domane+ for their road ebike. I wouldn't want to have a Domane now because my friends might think I was riding an ebike.
Nice review. And thanks for the comparison between your 2 bikes. As I have several bikes & can’t justify the high costs of today’s bikes. $3k & up I was gonna ask, you said you work for Trek. So does the Madone really have a lot of issues?
Thanks! And yeah we do see Madone’s come in often with iso speed issues and they have to be warrantied, so that’s scared off a lot of us from buying them. But we’re also a bike shop and ofcourse will see more issues than the average person. The new generation madone is different though and I can’t speak to that one
I’m the same height as you and thought about a 54 or. 52 now I’m going for 54, the bottle cage $95😮 hope they gave you a bottle of champagne to put in it for that price 😀, bike looks great , I was thinking of the tcr advanced pro but the cables are on show , compared to this the clean lines look on the front looks way better, is there enough adjustment in the small seat post to play with or is it limited
Hopefully there is a 70mm expander plug in there. With 15mm of spacer on top of the stem and a standard 43mm stack height stem a 50mm depth expander plug won't adequately support the steer tube where it meets the upper headset bearing.
I used to work for Trek in Columbia MD, but they didn’t help me build my custom Madone SLR. I tried my best, it’s SRAM Red AXS and ENVE Foundation 65 wheels running tubes, but I couldn’t get it under 8kg’s. Probably the wheels…
Congrats on another new bike... Ive been wanting that bike for awhile but man i just cant justify the cost. Also i `m not completely sold on carbon over aluminum. Either way awesome bike congrats again. Curious all the bikes you have is there one you ride the most?
Thank you! Yeah the cost is more insane now than it already was before. I love the look of the carbon and am excited to see how carbon feels compared to aluminum. And honeslty out of the bikes I have ridden, I ride most of them the same amount. Maybe the Roscoe more currently though since I want to take it on harder trails
Thank you for the video. I’m torn between this and domane! Silly question…why does this one climb better than domane? Domane has a lower gear and is within a couple points in weight. I want a bike for broken up pavement and smooth but love both
I would love to have Emonda SLR 7 in 56 size in Matte Onyx Carbon, but no cash for moment. I still waiting my slash to arrive ffs :D slash 9.8 XT !!!!!!
That doesn’t sound normal as mine does not do that. Might want to get it checked out at your local Trek shop (should be free of charge to give it an initial check) and see if they have to warranty the frame if there’s a defect
Bro... put a set of 105 SPD-SL on there and get you some decent carbon sole shoes... I promise. I wouldn't steer you wrong my dude. Don't worry, I still thumbs-upped the vid.
No not really. Hydraulic disc brakes don’t take much effort to engage so I’d say it’s about the same. Might feel different if you are used to riding one style over another though, but after you get used to it it’s fine
@@TalalipopMTB i rented a domane claris with the non disc breaks, from 2020, base model, the brake levers were kind of hard to use, like requiring quite a bit of effort.
If I were you dude, return the bike and get your money back. Then go and purchase a Windspace SLC 2.0 Rim Brake Frame or a Trifox X-16 Rim Brake Frame. ICan or Wisnspace Hyper Wheels and it'll be at least 3 pounds lighter and better and save you at least a grand or more. Rim brakes will always be lighter than a disc brake bike.
I got the same bike but in a 52cm. I am 5'7, so you mentioning that you feel that you aren't centered makes me think you may need to get bike fit, or you should've gone a size down. I can't tell if I made the right size choice or not, but I did get a bike fit, and I feel pretty ok in the bike. I do sometimes feel cramped as you mentioned. So, hearing you say you feel cramped in a 54 is also a little weird.
Bro, thanks for the advice. I literally just flipped my stem on my Trek Checkpoint SL7 and man what a world of difference. You’re the real pluggg.
Haha no worries!
Amazing music and bikes! Amazing RUclipsr! I love this
Thank you!!! :DDD

Sick bike man! Congrats on the new ride
Thank you!
Before Covid, this same bike used to be $2200. The price jump was huge in such a short time.
forreal, wonder if it 'll ever come down.
Thanks, China.
@@tenrec .. Thank Trump for his tariffs , making America great again with his confused brain.

Amazing great looking bike, congratulations. But dude, FLAT PLASTIC PEDALS for a bike like THAT!?
HAHAHA
Yeah what the heck come on now
I’m sayin’! Those pedals invalidate this entire review, honestly.
pedals ruined the review
True… why not test ride it with slippers as well? 😂
Great video, loved the energy.
Thanks!!
Congrats, bro! Got the exact same, did tons of carbon but upgrades.
But once you get carbon wheels, it’ll liven it up BIG time!
Thank you!!! Actually already got carbon wheels, I’ll put them on after I get done stock rides in :D
@@TalalipopMTB please do a review about your upgrades too
Yeah definitely!

Hahaha! And yeah the seatpost is definitely a bit limited, it can move up an inch maybe, so sizing is important. 54 should be good though!

I recommend the alloy ALR Emonda. They are just as good, just as light.

The Trek shop where I live have it for 1800 dollars is that price good? Should I pick it up?
That blue and black colorway is killer
Yess!
Nice Ride !! What is your saddle heigt from the BB to the top of your saddle?
We have the same Émonda and It is and amazing bike!!
Awesome!!
Congratulations 🎉 🎉 👏 bike is hot ❤️Please review cheapest madone sl 2021 model,,iso speed version..if possible
Thanks! And sure I’ll see if I can!
No that you’ve had for awhile can you tell us what you think. I’m looking at the Domane SL6.
Thank you for the video. I’m torn between this and domane! Silly question…why does this one climb better than domane? Domane has a lower gear and is within a couple points in weight. I want a bike for broken up pavement and smooth but love both
Weight and aero are better on Emonda. If you are slow up hills then only the weight difference will matter.
The demand is overly complicated. Pain in the ass bike.
Can you adjust saddle height with the seat mast?
Awesome bike, just bought it and its very smooth and fast, even on climbs though not so light as a bike
I would love to have Emonda SLR 7 in 56 size in Matte Onyx Carbon, but no cash for moment. I still waiting my slash to arrive ffs :D slash 9.8 XT !!!!!!
I have a trek emonda sl5 when I touch the down tube and makes a cracking noise is that normal can you tell me if that

Hahaha thank you! And yeah I do have carbon sole Giro shoes and some clips that I could throw on, I’ll do that in the next one!
Can you review the new 2023 Trek Emonda SL5?
Do you find road bike braking , more difficult , or not as powerful compared to flat bars? Due to leverage ?
No not really. Hydraulic disc brakes don’t take much effort to engage so I’d say it’s about the same. Might feel different if you are used to riding one style over another though, but after you get used to it it’s fine
@@TalalipopMTB i rented a domane claris with the non disc breaks, from 2020, base model, the brake levers were kind of hard to use, like requiring quite a bit of effort.
I see. Well rim brakes in general require more effort so that could be the reason.
Maybe try some more road bikes if you can to see how other ones feel, maybe the one you rented had an issue or something as well
I'm 1.77 tall and 0.82 in between legs. Would frame 54 work?
"Cuts the steerer tube to make it look more nicer"
Not a good reason but good luck.

Hi what is the weight in kg?
Not sure if the weight is actually 9.3lbs or he meant 19 lbs 3oz. Regardless,
19 lbs 3 oz = 8.70kg
19.3 lbs = 8.75kg
