Dancing on the stage at The Probe 1989. My prime years, every weekend was a party. Those days are gone, better left alone. Still here after all those years.
this song was released 1988 as a kind of a comeback but meanwhile madonna whitney kylie and other megastars had already outstripped her and the the taste in music had changed during the years...thats why this song was a huge flop...it would have charted huge in 82/83
I believe not a lot of publicity of this single made it not chart well. Many female artists young and old had hits in the late 80s and not just madona and w. Houston.
I remember one night me and my friend were at The Wave in Dallas, Tx and the DJ started playing this song. We both screamed like girls when we heard the intro and ran to the dance floor!!! LMAO!!! Oh, what wonderful memories this song brings back!
Wow! I never knew this song before, and it is really good, with Elton John on backing vocals. With a slightly tighter melody in the chorus and meatier keyboards, this song could easily have been a big hit for the late, great Dame Olivia. She crossed over brilliantly in the 1980s with Physical and Landslide, and proved what a versatile recording artist she was.👌🎶
Éxito absoluto cuando La Torre era la mejor disco gay de Costa Rica, no había espacio suficiente para bailar, nadie quedaba sentado. Que piezón y que remix!!! Que descanses en paz Olivia !! Gracias por tu música.
We used to substitute the words "once your legs are spread" and would giggle every time while dancing. ONJ is so wonderful and this is one of my all-time favorites! From Western Maine.
This was big anywhere that a good club scene, straight or gay. I played this on Padre Island at the Hilton International Resort, packed the floor. Did the same in Canada, again, packed. This is PURE Shep Pettibone magic. Elton does some background on this, and it mixes very well with Elton's "I Don't Wanna Go On With You Like That", also remixed by Shep Pettibone.
The rumor was one of the songs that Tom Johnson used to play usually around 4:00 a.m. at the probe. One night me and four of my friends in my group we're outside changing our shirts cuz we were dancing all night and all sweaty and as we walk in the door we hear the rumor just start playing and I swear we were falling all over each other running up the stairs to get to the dance floor lol. That song was definitely one of the club favorites. No matter how late it was no matter how many hours straight we were dancing it's still packed the dance floor when it came on. Olivia you were loved and you are missed. Blessings to you
the rumour shocked the half hour version tom johnson play at 6am of express yourself thet started with drums my body says yes bye titiyo the visitors 20 minute version tom johnson played of pet shop boys that felt a knife ws cutting thru ur soul left to my own devices
In Chicago it was very popular on college stations especially the remix version should have been huge; never crossed over to regular FM radio stations what a shame.
I Still Love this ♥ Johnny :-) Lucky guy getting to see her, but I have also seen Olivia in Toronto♪ I know this is late, but I bet that Concert was Great? I could see you being a Happy Bunny! I was when I got to see her :-) Take Care & Have a Great Day each Day in May ♥♪☮
I Love this song! I played this at The Barn in Toronto & when I went out to Boots, Alberto played this also! Many of the big clubs all over Canada played this great tune. I ♥ Olivia! Thanks for sharing Johnny :-) → D.J. David R® (My old user name & the channel is still up is esacnitsuj1) ♥♪♫☺
TO ALL THE NARCISSTIC ABUSEM VICTIMS .... HERE',S OUR ANTHEM ! NO MORE RUMORS ! EMPATHS COME TOGETHER AND DANCE AWAY THE TOXICITY AND EMBRACE A NEW YOU !!!!!!
Omg, Just 5 mins ago, and listening to this masterpiece… I had the same revelation. Just realized what this song’s message is about. Olivia was ahead of her time. This is an anthem for victims of a smear campaign. No more Narcissistic Abuse ‼️ ☀️♥️🍻🌈
This track was Big Big hit here in the Uk gay Bars and Clubs but we had get the inports from USA as did not come out over here even to it still play in Gay bars of Manchester
I think this song would have done really well if the sindgle had been remixed like the extended version. The single version is lacking energy which this remix totally has. It was a huge hit in the biggest gay club here in Houston. It would always pack the dance floor. AND they always played the video on a huge 12 foot by 12 foot screen.
The original is a great album and should have been huge. But Olivia had focused on her baby and Madonna et al had arrived in between. Still, it’s a great album with some great songs and it stands up well. Can’t say I love this remix. It’s tinny and cheesy.
it should have been...but in the late nineties people were more into s.a.w. productions or rnb/rap-stuff such as neneh cherry, salt n pepa or bomb the bass...no chance for this great kind of music...
An unforgettable title. Thank you Ms Olivia Newton John. You will forever be in my heart.

Her record company really dropped the ball on this. The Shep Pettibone remix should have been the one they put on the video and promoted to radio.
This version is way better than the single!! I dont know why it wasnt a commercial hit! It was big in the clubs back in the day!!
This should have been a huge hit for Olivia!

No it was'nt ? But How ....it looks(sounds) that likes of Petshop Boys or depeche Mode worked on this for her(those synth parts) ....beats me
It was HUGE in gay dance clubs all over the world
This is my favorite Olivia remix. I love this! The Rumour album is such an overlooked gem; it's my favorite Olivia album.
💯🔊🕺🏻
It wasn’t overlooked.
I remember one night me and my friend were at The Wave in Dallas, Tx and the DJ started playing this song. We both screamed like girls when we heard the intro and ran to the dance floor!!! LMAO!!! Oh, what wonderful memories this song brings back!
The Wave ! what great memories!
It was either me, Ric Herrington or David Laird! LOL I loved seeing this!
Wow! I never knew this song before, and it is really good, with Elton John on backing vocals. It was a huge hit in the gay clubs around the world. Never made it in the charts
Was lucky to remember when this version was playing at clubs. It's a winner.
Olivia, the greatest for always. Superb pop voice.
This remix showed she still had it..shame by 1988..youth obsession was in the forefront
Tell that to Tina Turner and Cher
RIP dear olivia ♥️♥️♥️
WHAT A GREAT DANCE LP. oH TO LIVE ON THE DANCE FLOOR WE USED TO DO EVERY WEEKEND.
It's soo Catchy!😙
RIP Olivia.
I love love LOVE this remix...Used to be played all the time in the clubs i would go to in Amsterdam...waaay back then lol!!
It was a huge hit here in Houston at all the gay bars. Rich's would lower the extra large video screen and sync it with this remix!
+onlywhenimdancing yep this was big in the gay clubs in London back in the day. I feel old LOL
+onlywhenimdancing YES! Same thing in Dallas at the time, it was HUGE!
We used to substitute the words "once your legs are spread" and would giggle every time while dancing.
ONJ is so wonderful and this is one of my all-time favorites!
From Western Maine.
Man I remember that at Rich’s. The floor was jam packed! They would tilt the light system also. Amazzzing! Fun times back then.
Yes - I heard it both at Rich's and Montrose Mining Company back in the day. I need a time machine to go back. Wonderful time in life.

I still have the 12in, This club version was better than the radio version. Im surprised it didn't do better for Olivia on the charts
I have 2 copies and I cherish them dearly and always will
I absolutely loved the song when it was released in 88 and couldn't understand why I was the only one
Elton John produced and wrote this wonderful song. If you listen to the words, it is so him!
Although this is a Shep Pettibone mix.
I saw her Physical tour in ‘83. She was great!
Awesome mix of what was originally a lackluster song on the LP; thank you Shep Pettibone for another great remix! Thanks for posting!
One song that some how got away. This should of been massive very PSB. Should of been a top ten hit
by far..my favorite song by Olivia...the remix is so much better than the original lp version
The rumor was one of the songs that Tom Johnson used to play usually around 4:00 a.m. at the probe. my favorite Olivia remix!
So much better than the album version which is really dull! Good remix :)
In Chicago it was very popular on college stations especially the remix version should have been huge; never crossed over to regular FM radio stations what a shame.
#RIP Olivia. 😓
Thanks David, This is one of my favourite ONJ numbers and I am going to see her, for the first time, in March at The Alber Hall in London. Happy Bunny
Oar House -- Norfolk 1988/89....fun track!
Still sounds as great today as all them years ago when I danced to this in Rockshots Leeds

I Still Love this ♥ Johnny :-) Lucky guy getting to see her, but I have also seen Olivia in Toronto♪
I know this is late, but I bet that Concert was Great?
I could see you being a Happy Bunny! I was when I got to see her :-)
Take Care & Have a Great Day each Day in May ♥♪☮
This version was a big club song in London in the 80's
I was a barman at Brompton's in Earl's Court in the late eighties and this takes me right back to those days. Great track.
I Love this song! I played this at The Barn in Toronto & when I went out to Boots, Alberto played this also! Many of the big clubs all over Canada played this great tune. I ♥ Olivia!
Thanks for sharing Johnny :-)
→ D.J. David R® (My old user name & the channel is still up is esacnitsuj1) ♥♪♫☺
god this was the song. when i was at leeds
Ty for the comments! Good to hear from another Livy lover!
MARAVILLOSA BENDITO AÑO 1988
awesome music
Wow, this takes me back to Dallas 1988--
mixnremix: I can't believe you just mentioned the Wave--I totally remember that place!!! :-D
Awesome remix ❤️
If this remixed was edited down to a single version it would have been HUGE!!!
As far as i know it was also released as a 7inch remix singel
Frits Nielsen with the album mix in it
This is the Shep Pettibone Remix. He did Magic for Vogue for Madame M too.
I love it
RIP x
I so love this. Can be big in 2018
Okładka wyprzedziła swoje czasy :)) (maseczka!)
Me encanta este tema.........
Ty I am going to try my hand at video editing of this track!
RIP

oh yes it did I had the 7'' single
great remix!!! why wasn't this a 'come back' song for her?
Because the 7 inch single version wasn't a dance track and it lacks the sparkle of this version.
I was wondering when the next remix vid of OLIVIA is comming out.
@cajunkid2 Ha! Just happened to scroll down. LOVED PROBE! 92/93/ Tom Johnson, Mark Tarbox. I wonder if we know each other. LOL
The original is a great album and should have been huge. But Olivia had focused on her baby and Madonna et al had arrived in between. Still, it’s a great album with some great songs and it stands up well. Can’t say I love this remix. It’s tinny and cheesy.
Wish she had done more dance back then but she was a mum and not really bothered about hits . Shame . Kylie of her day. ONJ FOREVER !!!!
of course i meant late eighties;-)
it should have been...but in the late nineties people were more into s.a.w. productions or rnb/rap-stuff such as neneh cherry, salt n pepa or bomb the bass...no chance for this great kind of music...
This song could have been a hit if the production as current for the time, it sounded a bit dated even when it came out, although I liked it.
This was good but you should hav incorporated the real video too.
shep pettibone had a way of making radio-pop dancefloor filler.................................................peace.
Remember dancing my fat ass to this one, 1980s!
Loo up Georgia no my my mind ...
Senator. Nancy Schaefer......
Please people!!!!!!!!
It's worth it..!!!!!!;
++++++++++++++
Great Nancy Schaefer.from Georgia..... please look her up!!!!!!!
Olivia should have worked with Stock Aitken Waterman
Can you imagine how amazing that would have been... Still hoping for a Kylie/Olivia duet
It was too European for American ears.
