After watching your videos I have digitized many things that were physical, donating or selling things I don’t need, buying “less but better” items, and taking 10 second long pauses in my speech! Life has been……………….great!
Great tips, I did an 8 month trip last year in South Asia with only a carry on backpack. I used a combination of packing cubes and vacuum bags, the small pump broke and I switched to the bags that don’t require it, just roll out the air, works great. Left my pro camera gear and laptop, behind used my iPhone 13 Pro and IPad Mini. I will never go back to hauling all that gear with me. Minimalist travel is so freeing!
Hi Nick, So happy to hear you prioritized being in-the-moment while in Portugal. Spending quality time with your loved ones is a lovely choice. Hello to kitty! Enjoyed seeing her, as always. Thanks for sharing your ideas about light travel. (The pause...I can't even!!) 😊
Packing cubes completely changed everything for me. I usually travel with a 24L backpack but it was falling apart and my new pack is 18L. First thing I did when it arrived was use my packing cubes to pack like I was going on a trip and everything fit with no problem. I also travel with a sling which is my purse so that adds a little bit of space.
As a European please never feel embarrassed to do what you must in gym clothes, plenty of us do the same. That if you ever find yourself in Europe of course. You look kinda southern European anyway so you’d fit right in 😊
For a bulky jacket or hoodie i use one of those wet sacks and roll up my jacket or hoodie then use velcro straps and attach it to my backpack like hikers do with there sleeping pad
It's actually easy to travel with one backpack only even for several weeks if you - Wear your heaviest clothes while travelling - Wash often so you don't have to take tons of clothes with you - Take clothes made of merino wool: It is moisture-wicking, keeps you cool in summer and warm in winter. - Buy large amounts of toiletries (such as toothpaste or sunscreen lotion) at your destination. - Leave laptops, ipads or cameras at home. Not only does this save space but it also prevents distractions.
I definitely plan ahead to help decide what I need to bring in my two bag carry on travels. If I can avoid check in bags, I will. A duffle bag would be clothing and a backpack for my essentials. I can never consolidate essential items together like bank cards on the back of my phone or all my identification in one. My iphone 15 pro is good enough for pictures. I think a camera would be part of planning ahead if there’s a travel spot that you really want good photos of.
Great video and much of it I already do. While you eluded to it, I would have called out using a roll technique like the ranger roll since it's one of the most popular rolling techniques out there. In addition to compression packing cubes, I bring a lightweight 20L dry bag so I can wrap wet clothes or shoes in my bag and not have it spill out. Or, if needed it can be used as a day bag on a trip. One thing which I refuse to travel without is a mini hero clip.
Love a hoody. I bought a 70% merino wool light weight one. Also, has UV protection. Very light weight and packs down to about same size as a t-shirt. Also, have found traveling w/o a laptop or even a pad and using my phone for everything including camera does work out great and allows you to be there and not thinking about capturing every moment.
Which one did you go with? I’ve been looking at merino hoodies for a bit but they all seem to be (understandably) really expensive, like minimum of $120. Since merino is pretty delicate, I have a really hard time convincing myself to shell out so much money for one 😅
@@goinginzane Hey I bought the REI co -op brand. And, it isn't 100% merino which I think makes it better and more durable. Wash in cold water and dryer on air dry. I've worn it in coldish weather and in warm weather and it has worked great for me. Give it a look. I think it was about 70$ but I bought it on sale in the 45$ range. Good luck!!
Another great video! Thank you for the tips!! What specific Bellroy transit backpack was that? They’re different sizes or liters as it’s stated on Amazon. Thank you 🙏
Love the videos brother. But I would like to see you have this same energy as a family with one or two children. Could you still pack minimal? Could you live a very frugal life? I’m curious 🧐
Hey Nicholas! from a minimalist and peace of mind point of view, what are your thoughts on smart watches like apple watches vs analog watches? In one of your videos you mentioned about buying things that will last years and you have your Timex and Gshock, I've been using my apple watch for years but i think its getting in the way of being present and would be more miniamlist and essentialist of me just wearing an nice time piece that will last forever. Yes it has nice health benefits but is it really worth it? Thoughts?
I think there's some people who can make good use of it without it getting in the way, and if you use it to exercise I think it's great. I just found it to be a little distracting for me personally, it was just one more thing to charge every day that I didn't wanna think about. I'm not totally against them I just love my analog watches most!
@@NicholasGarofola I'll second this, I ditched my smart watch and went back to an analog. If I'm working out, it's more time based and I'm not so worried about HR, etc. If I am, I'll do a pulse check like we did in the old days before smart watches.
If you are into sports, go for dedicated sportwatch like a Polar or Garmin. I personaly wear the polar Grit X, which is a great tool for working out and running. You can turn of the few smartwatch features it has so you don't get distracted
I can’t get behind the passport wallet. I’m a very careful person, but I did once have a wallet fall out of my pocket while on a rollercoaster. Couldn’t get it back. I couldn’t imagine what would have happened if I were in a foreign country. I think the people who use the phone case/wallet combos are equally taking on too much risk.
Wearing gym clothes while traveling is ridiculous, there are so many brands now that offer normal looking clothing made from technical fabric and merino wool.
merino would definitely add another level to minimalist packing: much lighter than cotton + a shirt can be worn in the worst of heat day & night for a week without attracting flying insects.
I never thought I could be a minimalist, but after I started watching your channel and began decluttering my life, I don’t think I could ever go back.
And the pause lore continuesssss
