    • @benjamindeh873
      @benjamindeh873 4 года назад +76

Well no, you should be able to cancel a trip.
What if your driver is drunk, drugged, driving dangerously, or anything like that?
HOWEVER...if you cancel mid trip it should still charge you for that portion of the trip. Its bullshit some people cancel half way thorough and then they dont pay other than the cancellation fee. They take another uber and now magically its half the price from the original destination and you cheated a driver out of money and time.
Also uber/lyft should review riders who have suspicious behaviour in their accounts (IE: Cancelling rides often)
Of course they dont wanna ban/lose customers where possible, but I would be surprised if trash cheating passengers like this are even worth it. And they are probably not a high percentage of their customers either.

I drove a taxi for a year at night in Seattle. We weren't supposed to ask people for cash up front but fuck that. The people who say that shit aren't out here. If i thought someone was shady i would ask for cash up front. I had 2 fares run out on me. One was my fault. I should have gotten the cash up front but i didn't think of it. I tried to stay in nice areas but shit can still happen.
I had a fare say 'take me to 3rd and Pine i want to buy crack'... yeah i'm gonna need cash up front. He understood. My first new years eve i made over 500 dollars. My second one someone dropped a bottle downtown from a highrise condo and broke out by back window. I had passengers in the cab and they were screaming that someone was shooting at us. I called the police and a witness came up and pointed to a window and said someone dropped a bottle from there. The cop wasn't interested in taking it any further. I told him to give me his gun and i'll go up there. I was pissed. I barely made 100 dollars that night i had just started.
My method on New Years Eve which you couldn't get away with on any other day was i'd look for singles and load up a bunch of people all going the same direction until my cab was full. I'd start the meter and everybody would pay whatever the meter said when i got to their house. Nobody had any problem with that and they all gave me a big tip. I think they thought it was a reasonable thing to do under the circumstances there were 20 people at every corner trying to get a taxi.

Or another example of a situation is when I had a driver show up with their car packed with junk, including a car seat. I requested an uberx to fit myself and 2 other passengers and there was only space for 2 of us. On in the front and barely one in the back. Driver kept insisting that we squeeze in, and refused to cancel the ride cause she didn't want to be charged to fee. And I ended up having to do it. So the cancel option for riders do come in handy

@@DustinIsDriving Call your local legislators. I have money on it that they would love to be one of the first to implement such law. I'm not even an Uber driver and this pisses me off because it is so prominent on YT. This shouldn't be a thing at all.
Uber also needs to figure this out on their end. It doesn't seem hard. Don't mind me I've only taken an Uber twice.
When you pick someone up they should have to go back in and confirm the destination and that they are now onboard, no cancellation from there on. Before they can even be allowed to do that the driver should register the pick-up and that the passenger is onboard.
      Customer gets in.
      Driver confirms pickup.
Customer granted ability to confirm pickup and destination.
Driver proceeds or pulls over until customer agrees on terms.
Make it visual. Something as simple as the drivers Uber app turning a different color to indicate the passenger has accepted the ride.
Idk. Going from a red to a green on the drivers app. Drivers can make it a thing to thank customers at this point to for accepting their ride with the subliminal intent to inform the rider the driver knows when they've accepted the terms.
This to me creates a different scenario and eliminates the ability to get in an Uber and think canceling it could get me a free ride if I'm lucky.
It must be so.... that people are getting away with free rides by cancelling which is why this is all a thing to begin with.
Altering course can still be possible under those terms.
Mid-destination the passenger needs to alter course and tells you.
Then they do it in app.
      Driver confirms the new destination.
Let me know if I'm missing something here though.

@@drawntosweet how does canceling a trip while the ride is in progress pertain to sexual harassment? Are you implying if a person says they feel sexually harassed that they should get a free ride? If you want to cancel the ride, you tell the driver to stop and you can get out and handle it from that point forward, if the driver won't stop, that is kidnapping/false imprisonment and you then can call the pigs or whatever. Canceling a trip in progress and not actually getting out is theft and fraud. You should be banned from the app services any time that occurs until an investigation is completed as to why it occurred so you can't just order another one and try the same scam on another driver until you eventually reach your destination inch by inch lol. It should be an action that requires confirmation from both ends to prove it is a decided and agreed upon cancelation, like once it occurs the company prompts the driver to confirm if that was an agreed upon cancelation and the ride was genuinely canceled.

Four phones lol. She seemed like she was roughing it for at least a few days.
Anyway, we chatted and I kept her spirits up for the 10 min ride. When we arrived, her "not my" boyfriend came out and quickly & dutifully removed all her belongings, but she remained in the car taking forever to get out. Basically just sitting there. I was out at the trunk by the not-boyfriend and voiced my concerns that I had to go pick up the next person. He pleaded and stressed with emphasis "Come ON, she has another person to pick up! Come ON!" And the girl finally stirred and got out of the car.
Sometimes people just have special needs and you don't know what is triggering them. I think she shut down once she arrived at the location her mother had her go to, feelings of no control and people deciding everything for her. But I can't be mad at that. She wasn't violent or belligerent like the lady in this video (she probably is special needs, too). My passenger was only very difficult at the destination. I wish her well and hope she is getting continued support and that she can see some light and own control (that emotional and financial freedom affords) in her life.

@@dawnflanagan-black126 Special needs people can be trying, difficult and their behavior terrible. No one chooses how she was. My memory is fading but she had more phones than she could handle (probably not all activated) and wanted to charge them. That's not "asshole". It's anxiety and some other issues regular people don't have.
I remember in the old days mean kids name calling, playing keep away, and taunting the slower kids who were different, unkempt, dsliscombobulated, extreme nerdy... and those mean kids also had the attitude the kids should just stop being so weird if they didnt like it when challenged to stop picking on them.
Your post reminds me of those mean kids.

Ps. My OP is unedited. I said "emotional special needs". You both need therapy for why someone you don't know and whose troubles makes her own life much worse than the 15-20 minutes of my entire life I ever had to spend with her makes you so angry. When it didn't even make ME angry and I'm the one who had to deal with her.

Pepper spray could get you in legal trouble. Just as effective, and less likely to get you in trouble would be fart spray. That stuff smells so bad the person would be out of the car immediately.
