Devil in Her Heart is a song that always takes me back to the very first time I heard it… a teenage lad enjoying all the changes that were happening around us and soaking up London’s ‘swinging’ atmosphere. It’s a real treat when someone younger values them!

Lennon and McCartney wrote I Wanna Be You Man in about 30 minutes. They were with Brian Epstein and were meeting with Mick Jagger, Keith Richards and the Stones manager. John and Paul slipped away and wrote that song and gave it to The Rolling Stones. When Jagger and Richards saw what Lennon and McCartney had done, they decided they could write songs too. That is how The Rolling Stones started writing their own music.

Love both songs. The backing vocals on Devil in Her Heart are phenomenal. I Wanna Be Your Man is such a fun ride: you have George's raunchy guitar solo, and Paul's background screams--wow. Every time I hear it, all I can think about is how joyful they sound.

Always ❤ seeing Ringo sing "I Wanna be your Man" live. I believe "Devil in Your Heart" was a Mowtown hit first. They are tight as they played live in Hamburg & clubs for quite a time before they became "famous."

“I Wanna be Your Man” is admittedly one of my least favorite Beatles songs, but even so, still sounds great. “Devil in Her Heart” is a different story. This is a great example of early Beatles magic. It sounds wonderful in every aspect. Thanks for reacting to these old gems Luke. George’s vocals were seriously underrated all along. I like your acknowledgment and appreciation of George. Nice reaction. 🌺✌️

    (Brackets) 👌☺
Ringo has very good songs with the group and also as a soloist, those that I like the most with the Beatles, in order of my favorites, are 'Good night', 'With a Little Help From My Friends', 'Carry that weight', 'Octopus's Garden', '‘Yellow Submarine', 'Act naturally', 'Boys'. And George, ahh!! I really adore that voice, is very peaceful and expressive, and yes, I totally agree with you sometimes if you haven't listen too much of them, is very easy to confuse his voice with the very emotional and vulnerable John's voice, when he sings soft songs.
Glad you appreciate how good this complete journey is to discover so many hidden gems that many overlook. Good job!!!!

Luke, what you'll notice is that on these early albums Ringo and George were each given at least one song. If they didn't have their own, they either covered something or John and Paul would write something for them. But it was acknowledged that they each had their own hard core fans, and it was part of the "group" identity that Brian was trying to promote to make sure they each had at least one feature spot per LP. This would influence other groups down the road. Paul and John famously banged out "I Wanna Be Your Man" in an hour and then literally handed it to the Stones. There's a photo that I think shows them tucked next to a stairway, heads over a sheet of manuscript, putting it all down. It's a very basic song, anyways, but Ringo does a great job with the vocal (with generous help from John and Paul.)

I Wanna Be Your Man could have used a cool tempo change but I think it was meant to be a straight out rocker. I still sung along when it came on. Always enjoyed and belted out Devil in Her Heart. I love that you are listening to all of them chronologically. It helps to appreciate the magnificent Beatles as a whole. Your analysis is getting more and more perceptive.

Always LOVED their cover of "She's (He's) Got the Devil in Her (His) Heart" I just LOVE "call and response" songs, which aren't done much anymore. Their earlier albums have always been special in my heart. I guess because this was what I first heard when I was 16/17 back in 1964. I LOVE your perspective on them and taking the time to go chronologically through their catalogue. It truly is the ONLY way for anyone who didn't experience it first hand as many of us did, to appreciate how their music and lyrics evolved and progressed in just 7 1/2 short years in their career as a group together. KEEP ON, Luke!

Devil in Heart is a great cover by the Beatles. On of my favorites. The background harmony really makes it a great song.

“I Wanna Be Your Man” live is awesome. If you want to know what sets The Beatles apart from the Stones, watch both performances back to back. I know nothing about the Stones other than seeing them perform this song and realizing just how far behind The Beatles talents, charisma and chemistry they were.

John famously said later of writing I Wanna Be Your Man for their rivals the Stones: "We weren't going to give them anything great, were we?" The only reason they recorded it themselves was because it proved a good vehicle for Ringo. To John and Paul it was always a throwaway song.

Both of these are so good but devil in her heart is so it credible for the time. It just worked so well. And just a complete side thought, watching you go on this Beatles journey and especially checking out their early stuff, it makes me think you would really love going down the Elvis Rabbit Hole. There is so much footage on RUclips of him not to mention over 700 audio tracks. But it's hilarious man, I've watched reactor after reactor fall in love with him.

Another terrific review, Luke - I'm loving your sensitive insights. And, as always, it's a joy to see a younger person falling under the Beatles spell, and appreciating the creativity, diversity, and skill that made them such a musical phenomenon of the 20th century.
It's especially wonderful that you've been able to continue with this journey, exploring the Beatles catalogue, for so long. I'm not sure if you're aware, but at some point, the heavy hammer blow of YT's copyright regulations is likely to fall, as it has done for so many other would-be reviewers. It may be that you haven't come to their attention yet due to your still relatively small total number of views/ subscribers - which undeservedly low profile may be a blessing in a way, for this reason alone..
Anyway, I'm keeping my fingers crossed for you, that you may be the one to slip through the net, and complete your journey through that magical decade when the Beatles ruled the world!

Devil in Her Heart was definitely a call and response number. You’ve got John and Paul singing the “She’s got the Devil in her heart” lines (totally dominated by Paul) with George telling them they are wrong in the response. The story regarding I Wanna Be Your Man is legendary. The Stones were in need of a song, their manager bumped into Paul and John in the street and told them about it. John and Paul had just starting working on this song so went into the studio where the Stones were and finished it off there and then. Supposedly that’s what inspired the Stones to start writing their own material.

I read (a few decades ago but still) John and Mick had a long session, the gist of it being Mick asking “How the f*** do you do that?”. Then they went through the songwriting process. First time I saw the Stones they were a support band for Gerry and the Pacemakers - one of the fellow Liverpool groups of the Beatles. The Stones were a southern band somewhat removed from the huge number of Liverpool groups that dominated the scene.

@@AlBarzUK They were southern, but they did plenty of gigs in the north before they really hit it big. They had their first UK ‘package tour’ before recording I Wanna Be Your Man. Yes, their first tour in their own right was all south-based a couple of months later.

You skipped It Won't Be Long and All I've Got to Do, the first two songs on the album. It Won't Be Long kicks off the album with such energy; it's a banger!

    New subbie here 👋
With the Beatles' has been in heavy rotation at my house for a very long time.
I've always loved track #1, It Won't be Long, because it launches from the very first beat right into the song. The vocals, the instruments, everything in your ears all at once. Bam!
I subscribed because I like how you roll your R's and because you look as if you actually enjoy the process of making the reaction videos. I could be wrong, but you're hot so it's still a win for me.

I don't know if you are a musician Luke, but I am continually impressed with your reactions to Ringo's drumming. I think he's one of the greatest drummers ever recorded. His ability to maintain tempo at speed is impressive, as is his originality. FYI you might appreciate this brief tribute to Ringo by someone your age. Thanks for all these reactions. I'm so pleased you are enjoying this journey through the nineteen sixties. ruclips.net/video/0NCczct2ZIM/видео.html

Devil in Her Heart was not on the USA version of this album, called Meet the Beatles, but was put on the next album called "The Beatles 2nd Album....I Wanna BTW your Man was also used in a scene in the night club in the Beatles first movie "A Hard Days Night" which YOU, Luke, should watch. BTW I still say I Wanna Be Your Man was the first Punk Song, and not the Kinks stuff. IMO without the Beatles breaking through, no Kinks. At least not in the USA.

Both these songs were amongst my least favourite Beatles songs, although I like "Devil In Her Heart" a bit more now than I used to .. "I Wanna Be Your Man" just seemed a little monotonous in the verses .. And yet, they're both not bad, which shows just how great The Beatles were, and how much I love them .. Another nice reaction, Luke .. Keep the journey going !

    Dear HBK Luke:
I do not see that you ever finished off the 2nd Beatles album With the Beatles. The last two tracks Not a second Time & Money (That;s what I want) seem to be missing.
I am trying to follow you listening to ALL Beatles tracks in chronological order so this is frustrating. Can you please do there two songs?
They are both good & Money is GREAT, almost as good as Twist & Shout; a real Lennon screamer that everyone who used to go to the Cavern says is what it felt like seeing the Beatles in the Cavern.

I Wanna Be Your Man is one of the worst songs by The Beatles in my opinion... :D
Devil In Her Heart is a different story... I actually liked this song pretty much and listened to it a lot when I was in love with a woman... now whenever I hear it, I think of her... it's the same for other songs as well
