    Good that you are opening up your mind Clément. A founder once told me that he had the option to quit his day job and pursue hobbies but he had a revealation when he went on a long sabbatical. As days passed all the touristy places looked the same and he did not have the same awe, all the food tasted fine buy he did not relish, the daily excitement which woke him up earlier began to fade. After which he realized that humans are not meant to just enjoy life forever. Purpose is the driving force that keeps us moving and keeps the rhythm of life in balance.

    You know you made it once you have 2 phones 🙃
    And I totally feel this video, especially as I've slowly unlocked more and more time and freedom in my own life (much of which thanks to you and AlgoExpert). You let yourself sleep till noon one day, and before you know it the only thing you've worked on in a month is your elo rating... But at the same time, that freedom is the most valuable asset I've ever owned. It just takes some self discipline to use it well, which I'm definitely still trying to learn.

    • @clem
      @clem  Месяц назад +6

      🤣 What if I told you...the phone I was filming with wasn't mine... 👀
      And totally agree with what you said! That freedom is the most valuable thing in the world, and it's what we all ultimately seek, but once you have it, you realize that you still have to wield it appropriately, otherwise it kind of all falls apart. (not trying to sound too dramatic 😅)

    Hi Clément,
    Is this the rant of a super disciplined man who questions the meaning of his life?
    You went from one opposite to another, a bit like being retired. You adapted your whole way of life in order to succeed in business, as few people are ready to do, by putting strong constraints on yourself and now all these constraints no longer make sense. But you still have the time, the experience and the energy to carry out new projects and have several lives. More importantly, you can choose the next one and the constraints that you accept or not. And that is thanks to the work you have done.

    This video feels like a message, my mom today told me just today that I'm getting much skinnier and weaker, and I told her it's because programming is too much fun. part of the reason why I took it this far is because I'm building a full stack project that I have pitched to my university and convinced them to use it in their system, but in the back of my mind I used to love just bulking and working out, and honestly I feel worse physically and mentally due to over-prioritizing this project

    If you try to ask me as a non successful person, but I'm trying to reach there, try to help people for non monetary gain like start a charity or try to start a small business which you love to do and does not take your entire life but enough to give you a pourpouse, like a farmer or a bakery, where it's if the business does not make you 7-8 figures, I think we as a human being should lead a well balanced life, with where we should focus on everything equally and not become obsessed in on thing, same goes for anything you worked so hard to grow your buisness to that extent that the purpose needed to sustain that buisness is not healthy for us, same goes with anything from food to pleasure.

    🍔 Clement from the past would have loved to watch this video. This is what I took away from the video - true satisfaction lies between balance, and that people innately crave "being in motion" rather than staying idle even with abundant resources. I guess the saying that "there is no real end goal" stays true. As someone still relatively young, I appreciate your honest, unfiltered thoughts on what it's like to live the End Goal of ambitious Gen Z/Millennials. You mentioned health is not bidirectional, but there's an unusual guy out here on RUclips with the lastname "Johnson" showing us how he's clinically reversing his biological age thru rich people resources. It's a great world we live in, to be able to peer into each person's state of mind, life stage, and lifestyle, regardless of their title or background - your algoexpert customer :3

      - Identify a problem.
      - Come up with a solution.
      - Make sure the solution is monetizable--and realistically so given your skills and resources.
      - Acquire skills and resources needed to get off the ground (e.g., learn to code, maybe save up a bit of money, etc.).
      - Work hard (and smart, of course) for a long period of time (consistency!).
      - Focus primarily on building a great product and having great marketing.
      These are probably the most important bullet points that I can share, and they don't need to be done in that order!

    🍔 Great video, Clement. While what you said isn't completely new, it is different hearing from someone who's in your position currently. I've been following your journey for a while, and it's great to see you at this level.

    My take:
    What is the actual problem?
    i) Building up a business or any sort of significant success leads to in putting huge amount of work
    and when you attain your goal, you try to look for some other thing but are not motivated enough to put in that much amount of work
    which you did before
    ii) Also the thing with hobbies is they are generally simple far less complex and lacking depth as compared to the one which you felt in (i),
    hence you are not satisfied there either
    iii) Travelling is an example of one such hobby, you do it for sometime and after a while every place looks same
    I think it is actually (i) which is hard to get pass, you know that you want to do something impressive but the effort does not look worth it you.
    Guess happens to only smart people, like I have met a few people in their late thirties to early forties with the same complain.
    But i guess AGI might be something which atleast we all techies can look forward to, something impressive without us putting in effort. (Real life pokedex has already happened)
    Really a very hard problem to deal with. Stay healthy (the mental is more important), do not become like techlead.

    This is a really informative, introspective video. Was there one singular pivotal moment that kinda sparked these thoughts or did you arrive on this conclusion overtime? Genuinely curious. Sometimes losing friends, change of scenery/who you're around, health scares etc can spark these thoughts. What was it for you? Thanks for sharing.

    Long time no see Clement!
    I've been in a somewhat similar place and what I've found helpful / interesting is reading philosophy (Bible, Nietzsche, Buddhism)
    There have been so many brilliant people before us that have focused their entire lives coming up with theories about the "meaning of life", some of them are pretty convincing. If all that fails, you can always go back to a good old 🍔 as a cope
    Btw, do you have an idea of what's next for you ?

    • @clem
      @clem  Месяц назад +1

      Long time no see indeed!
      Agreed on reading philosophy / listening to other people's viewpoints on the matter. But as you said, sometimes it's just about enjoying the small things, like a good old 🍔.

    • @clem
      @clem  Месяц назад +1

      And no, still in the process of figuring out what's next (keeping in mind that the current stuff isn't a thing of the past either!).
