Had a panic today when outbreak of good weather had me realising I’ll need to swap bikes around on my Kickr Core before long and I’d not even thought about the thru axle set up on the winter bike. Happily it looks nice and simple, pretty sure the Core didn’t come with brake spacer but got some spare from having bought new shimano mtb calipers a while back. Cheers for the info 👍
Thanks! Good to finally see how thru axle support works in a video. I was told that my RAT thru axles on my Focus would be incompatible, but it seems like it should be too easy 👍
Thanks you, thank you, thank you. The Wahoo video showed none of the details you did regarding how the adapters go on and that is what I was struggling with.
Good video, nice! Totally different than the way I put my new Specialized Tarmac on the Tax Neo 2. Less space there too, difficult for placing brake-spacer. But it works. 🙂

Hi Shane, First off thanks a lot for the amazing content. Keep it up :) I recently got my new Canyon Grail CF 8 and wanted to set it up with my wahoo kickr v5. I put in the adapters as indstructed in your video and the official manual; however, my thru-axle that came with the bike/wheel seems to be a bit too short. Am I doing something wrong or do I have to purchase an extra thru-axle/adapter?
Hi Mateusz, turns out that Canyon installed the wrong thru-axle when they shipped my bike. I got it solved by speaking to someone from their customer service and they offered a voucher to purchase a compatible thru-axle.
Hi Shane, just attaching a 105 11-speed cassette to a kickr core, using the through 12mm through axel as you've got there. Just wanted to make sure the thread isn't getting stripped, are the lowest through cogs meant to be little wobbly or do they get aligned properly when fully tightened? Thanks
@@gplama yes, was just the locking cap I think but mainly the machining on the 105 casette probably isn't 100% perfect, was just noticing some very minor movement on the bottom three cogs. Shane, I'm considering upgrading my bike and the set-up is Thru Axle/disc. I take my bike on and off a wahoo kickr core up to 5 times a week due to space constraints. Quick release this is pretty quick. Your video makes it look easy but I have a nagging feeling that I remember you saying you prefer to use your old bike on the trainer as it's quick release/rim and the set-up is just easier to do? Hi Shane, I have the BMC Teammachine and I’m having real issues with chain grind whilst getting into the lower gears on my trainer. I have an Ultegra DI2 setup (R8000) on my bike which is smooth and setup correctly but have a 105 cassette on my wahoo kickr core. I was wondering what your thoughts are? Is the 105 cassette compatible with an Ultegra chain and DI2. Thanks Rob
Lama I’ve got my 2019 Giant TCR advanced 0 disc, a wahoo kickr purchased in 2015, is it compatible with the trainer? Been searching RUclips and I’m super confused! Thanks mate.
How does one know if their bike is not compatible? My bike is a 2021 Specialized Sirrus X 5.0. I bought my Wahoo Kicr at the LBS, and I really didn't think that part out. They didn't say anything either, even though I bought my bike from them. My Sirrus uses a 12 x 142 thru axle, but the dropouts on the chainstays are about 1 to 2 millimeters too wide for the adapter. It makes for a hairy experience mounting the bike to the Kickr because it's not real stable until I get the thru axle installed, and I'm worried about carbon damage. I don't know what the industry standard is on width tolerance. Once mounted, it works great. Any thoughts?
Kind of you to reply. Appears Wahoo don’t/ won’t support without any especially valid reason. Plenty of 135mm thru axle bikes out there; I have 3 Diverges. Appears you need to machine down the one the 142mm adapter. Not really good enough but worse is that this war stopper is not pushed out up front. An expensive aggravation for my friends new purchase. Regards to the fam.
I just got my kickr yesterday and it took me nearly one hour to figure out how to fit this axle. Then I found my kickr has quality issue, it makes clicking noise when coasting or pedaling.
