  • In this video, I show you how to keep your bait alive for weeks at a time with my NEW Xtreme bait tank. (The best bait tank) You can store everything from pilchards, sardines, pinfish, ladyfish, and more. The bait tank features 65 gallons of spa-like space, and two recirculating pumps to oxygenate the most fickle baits. Chris and I did some research and we set the tank up on the dock to draw fresh water using an Everbilt utility pump that sucks in 15 gallons of fresh water per minute. This helps flush ammonia, feces, and scales from the tank. We will be doing some testing to see what is optimal and what is not, we hope that you will join us.

Nice looking set up….little too fancy for me but to each his own…one thing I did notice was the valve you installed to slow the flow down shouldn’t be on the output side but on the input side. Where you installed it, as you close it more the pressure builds up, which is hard on the pump…. If you had a pressure gauge on it you would see the increase….instead put the valve right before the water enters the pump….you’ll get the same result with no extra stress on the pump….and no it won’t affect you priming the pump….the only time you should ever slow the pump output is if there is a pressure shut off switch installed, like an on demand pump….👍

Hey. Josh and Chris.. Always good to see you.. Sad how RUclips is doing things now..ugh I heard, don't know how true it is, but heard RUclips was trying to get rid of all hunting and fishing videos because they feel it's cruel to animals.. Regardless of the set up problems, this looks like it should work really well for your needs.. Always love seeing y'all, seems forever since I've seen you guys in person.. Keep up the good work.. Always your friend, fan, and subscriber.? God bless..

To help with your priming problem put the pump in the water with out the hose . Check valve on the top of pump pvc to bait tank it will prime as soon as it turns on . I use a 5 gallon paint strainer bag from Home Depot for a pre filter around whole pump.

Nice setup ,Just a thought , why not run 12 volt bilge pumps off a marine battery with a smaller solar panel for tank levels, no need to run power cords, Great Video..

That's kind of funny, I got a tsunami t800 12v aerator pump and that's pretty much what I had in mind. I have a few battery box / solar setups for electric fences I'm not using.

Nice lil setup interested to how it holds up and how long it will keep your bait 🎣👍

Hey josh , of course the big thing in any baitwell is to add movement in the water but you need to add oxygen bubbles the finer the bubbles the better , had saltwater fish tanks for years , alot of bait wells use to have spray bars on top that would shoot water on the surface of the water to create bubbles, you might be able to add a air line right before your water going into your baitwell and make sure it’s taller than the bait well water level with an adjustable valve to open or close the amount of air being injected into the tank , it’s like getting a free air pump for nothing just adding the little hose to the system, that’s a pretty big pump for that size tank , you could also tap into the the the fill at the bottom of the tank and add a spray bar , small holes to add oxygen, just like at the bait shops . Are y’all making any videos on poon fish’n this year , 🤔. Tight lines guys

Add a venturi air syphon just after your pump or just inside the tank

What pump and syphon are you using?

You should be priming both pipes and only apply glue to male side of joints.

Making my own I DONT USE AIR PUMPS ever. Use your regular ol water circulation pumps with a venturi air syphon . It saturates the water with more air and keeps the water moving

Why not just use a bait pen if you are keeping it on your dock?

    • @Saltyscales
      @Saltyscales  2 года назад +4

Bait pen was the biggest pain in the butt. Pool noodles deteriorate in a month, oyster growth in the cage. It wasn't ideal.

Why not just use pond pumps? They don’t need plumbing. You just dump them in the water (in your case off the jetty) and connect a hose that will go in the tank. Much simpler.

What you have is too powerful! For croakers, pogies and shrimp you need a slow stream of fresh water backed up with an air compressor hooked to an air stone! You want air and fresh water without turbulence! The turbulence will knock around your bait and kill them! Shrimp need a cage to hold on to! It will be first class after you match what you are trying to keep alive and their needs! Looking forward to your future stuff!

Best way to keep shad alive is Dont buy a 2000 dollar bait tank. They are great tanks but dude take that 2000 dollars to home depot and spend a weekend in the garage for fucks sake. My 500 dollars tank beats every xtreme ive seen. Its pretty damn hard to even spend 500 i did every little thing i could possibly do to it. Dual filtered, dual circulatory pumps insulated. I cant believe the money wasted on these tanks because of pure laziness

You know what they say about opinions. Xtremes tanks are not little diy junk tanks. I'd put this before your diy tank any day. 👍

Nice advertisement wearing the hat and all... Not really an objective/subjective review, but an advertisement. It’s hard to believe people are paying such exorbitant prices for such a simple setup; it must be all of that Biden free money floating around. More power to the guy for “engineering/selling” them. Anyone with some saltwater aquarium and a little engineering knowledge can construct such a system for a FRACTION of the cost with some aquarium pumps, perlite, a couple hdpe trash cans, foam, some couplings, etc. Save yourself thousands of dollars and use frozen gallon jugs if you don’t want to incorporate a chiller and don’t have a need to save your bait for weeks on end. Better yet, build a bigger one and put it in your basement or garage out of an old freezer chest on a coolbot switch. These are used with great reliability and extensively in home built veggie coolers.
Man, the fishing industry is such a money maker… a billion dollar industry.
