      My mother threatened to excommunicate me if I ever got a doberman. I'd fallen in love with them after coming across a beautiful bitch whilst house hunting As it happens, before I the chance arose to settle and find a good breeder, a retriever I knew from a pup became homeless. In my childhood back in late '70s, it was the Doberman that was the "bad breed" and got the bad rep. I had a neighbor who's dad had a seeing eye dog, which was a dobbie. He was the most obediant dog I saw (in my childhood) and smart. I remember my friend sneaking me into her apt while her dad was napping. The dog came out and stood and stared at me. He knew that I wasn't suppose to be there but knew I was best friends with his human's daughter. So he only stared, but never he barked to alert -and wake- his human. If it was someone NOT familiar he certainly would have.

      I had a half Toby half shepherd when I was a kid and he was the best dog I remember ever having. He was protective but not aggressive and he could jump a 6-foot cinder block fence which helped me out One Day. I was walking down the alley had some gang members taunting me because of what I was wearing. Just so you know I'm not a gang member I just happen to like black and red. We got to my backyard and I heard my dog in the yard so I called him. He jumped that fence landed got right next to me and started growling. One of the kids moved like a step forward and he got in front of me, the dog not the kid. And then I told bubba to get them. They thought I was telling my dog to attack and took off. My dog knowing that get them is not an actual attack command literally chased them down to the end of the alley and then trotted back all happy. When we got in the house he got a treat.

      When you say they pay for everything with their taxes, it's true. You pay taxes and also have to pay for everything out of your pocket. You pay twice, that's why you feel robbed.

      What do you prefer, keep the taxes you pay now, and maybe pay a little more, but having healthcare, education, and other services? Or pay less taxes, keeping the same healthcare/education/transportation systems, and maybe finding yourself in an understaffed, supplies-lacking county hospital in an emergency?
      It appears that when the taxes issue appears, very few people remember that paying for other people's access to societal goods also secures one's access to them.

      An interesting fact: Some dog breeds (namely the Pembroke Welsh Corgi, Australian Shepherd, and Rottweiler) can have a completely natural bobtail, however most genes causing bobtails in dogs cause incompatibility with life (e.g. stillbirth, severe deformity) if the dog inherits two copies, so reputable breeders will never pair a naturally-bobtailed dog to another naturally bobtailed dog. There will always be a tailed dog to ensure the offspring don't inherit two copies of the gene.

    They removed the tail and the floppy ears so you couldn't tell what a big baby a doberman really is at home. A neighbour has two, they were scared of outr cats. My uncle had one who was mostly doberman and he wanted to lay on my uncle and suckle his earlobe like a big baby.
    This doesn't take away from all the damage they can do as a guard dog but ...big babies in the family.

    • @theangledsaxon6765
      @theangledsaxon6765 Год назад +15

      The ears are just aesthetic, and actively hurt the dog later on. Docking tails actually has some point - those things are literal whips and can hurt both people and the dog. There’s a whole thread of people in the comments discussing that, and a few ended up sheltering their dogs since they repeatedly hurt their toddlers pretty badly with their tails. A docked dog is better than a pound dog.

    • @lilyawoodburn
      @lilyawoodburn Год назад +9

      So docking the ears actually wasn't always just aesthetic, historically it was so they could hear better without the ears flopping over on themselves. Now of course, dobermans typically aren't working dogs so the docking is completely unnecessary

      Sometimes circumcision is necessary though.
      Someone I know had to have it done when he was about 7/8. The foreskin wasn't growing with his penis, so was literally strangling blood supply. It caused pain and blood when he urinated. I don't know the statistics of that happening but I do agree it should be like any body modification.
      The person's choice unless medically necessary.

    • @kjb9837

      If there's no medical reason to cut it, keep it! The new testament says to be circumcised in your heart or something so basically in your heart have faith. I don't think parents should decide for a child, let him decide as an adult.
