I always wanted to know what data scientists actually do for work. This video provided me some insights about the actual work of a data scientist. Thank you so much for this valuable information.
@@innocenttochukwuinnocent9673 I've been in the role for 10+ years. I don't know any direct guide to point you to, but for sure you should get familiar with Python, data scraping, data frames (Pandas library), data visualization and SQL. Then depending on where you want to align, you should get familiar with A/B testing and statistics, or head towards plain ML/AI R&D route.
I majored in math in my college too. So true that they only taught Matlab and asked us to design chess/board games with it. And I just struggled a lot with Python when I started my first data scientist internship
Love it, Vivian! I am going to Germany for my master's in data science and I didn't wanna be a foreigner to the life post-graduation! You earned a sub!
This vlog is very insightful for an aspiring data scientist like myself :) Any tips on what skills to work on as a student that can be very crucial in data science work?
omg thank you!! comments like this make me very happy :') hmmm I'd say there's no need to be TOO technical since a lot of the time you could just be building basic models or leveraging off 3rd party tools, however communication your work + simplifying insights for your non technical stakeholders is so important!
In my company, I work as a System Engineer/implementation specialist and my tasks encompass the business/data analyst as well as the data engineering functionalities. Just wish i'd get paid like one 😅
I have all knowledge of data scientist , but currently I am trapped in data analyst role in India , is masters required in Australia for these type roles like machine learning engineer , data engineer , data analyst , buisiness analyst. How much dsa(data structures and algorithms ) is important to. crack interview in Australia.
hi shobhit, thank you for sharing. no a masters is not required here in Australia (i would say that 5 years ago, people valued Masters more heavily, however nowadays with so many online courses, bootcamps), we are moving more towards "skills-based" instead of traditional education (i personally do not have a masters either). Australia interview process is not too difficult for many companies (I have an old video up on it on my channel - i believe it's still pretty similar to this: ruclips.net/video/WFIY8_ppS8U/видео.htmlsi=npXb5HG3ETgnJpCt)
This was a great video Vivian .I just wanted to how different is a typical data scientist role from a SDE role ? Do you have to be really good at maths to be a good data scientist ?Also do u have to read a lot of ML research papers as part of your work ?
thank you for your kind comments!! hmm I do work closely with SDEs but I do more of the model building + data code writing, whereas they work on the data pipelines + helping me implement my models into the production environment? a lot of the time, I'll be working on a model script + output, and hand it over to them for real-time deployment. not too much maths at all - I was never a fan of pure maths in uni and always enjoyed the more statstical / applied element, so it's really just the basic hypothesis testing, correlations, regression models etc. and I don't upskill as much as I should tbh! mostly just read ML papers before I have to start a specific project as there's just so much to learn and im not sure where to begin sometimes - it's all a bit overwhelming, so I just learn as I go!
Hi Vivian Do you teach data science ? Or can you share the resources to learn data science ? Your videos are very informative. Really learned a lot. Will love to learn more. Love you from India ❤
thank you Arjeet for the kind words and I'm glad you enjoyed the video! I unfortunately do not teach data science - I don't think I'm that expert yet haha, but I will be releasing a new video (hopefully by next week) on the fastest way to become a data scientist (my experience)
I take a general multivitamin + iron / vitamin d (I’m deficient) + probiotic everyday! not sure if it does too much but helps me stay balanced I guess 🫠
hi! you mentioned about chatgpt so i just have a question. are u using gpt 4, and if yes, does it have much of a difference compared to 3.5? thank you!!
hi there! ooh I actually haven't tried gpt 4 (i've just been using 3.5 and it has been pretty good for my needs in writing points + debugging code) my company said we would upgrade in the new year so I'll try that out and make a video on it :)
hey Jonathan! hmm good question - not explicitly announced or anything, but I do feel an unsaid pressure to have to deliver some insights when I'm working on something for a while

@candidlyvivian use one that uses double A or triple A battery. Lasts 1 - 6 months depending on usage. Mine lasted 4 months before change. [5-8 hrs usage per day]
one of the only day in the lifes that are actually informative, thanks Vivian
i'm glad the video helped, thanks for watching
Facts most day in the life leave wondering how someone is getting paid to drink coffee, gym and have 2 breaks after an 8am meeting hahaha
sure about that? 🤔
