I confronted a group of teenagers for talking at a movie by standing up and saying “please stop talking” and everyone acted like I was a psychopath, including my wife. Well OK then! 🙄

I miss the small theaters. There used to be quite a few around me. There were three in particular that were a big part of my life for the longest time. One by one they closed and disappeared. Even the multiplexes have been atrophied into the awful places we have now. Kudos for keeping the old magic alive, I hope you succeed for the sake of those who never got the experience
This is why I don't go to theater in the weekend or afternoon anymore. People are rude AF when talking during the film right next to me, like when I was watching The Boy and the Heron and these two girls keep commenting on everything happening in the movie. Now I just go in the morning so I can have the entire theater to myself.
I forgot which movie it was, but I had this one guy talking to himself and giving a whole commentary throughout the whole movie. Even when people told him to be quiet, he would apologize but then start again SMH
The Regal nearest me just got a huge renovation. Now, there's literally no box office and the place feels like a cemetery with almost no staff. People are literally watching a movie in the theaters and taking pictures of the screen to post on their social media every 5 minutes, what has happened to the world!?
To be fair I did that in high school but it was usually like one photo usually the marvel logo or Columbia or Lucasfilm or the title of the movie or the opening scene and watched the movie. I wouldn't take pics while the plot is going on and never used a flash or anything.
I hate when people bring their babies to the movie theater. Nothing makes my blood boil more at a movie theater than that. Keep your babies and loud annoying, little kids at home with a babysitter, relative, friend, whoever. If you can’t find someone to help, then you can’t go to the movies until you do!
It's kinda bittersweet that in my place, nobody goes to the theaters anymore so I've beenwatching movies with just 3-5 people seated. But it also helps that I go on weekdays.
Amen Adam! I went to the re-release of "Spider-Man 3" a few weeks ago and there was this guy seated in the front who recorded the first half of the film on his phone until I yelled at him to put the damn thing away. As much as I blame the theater for not doing anything about it, the fact that it was a packed audience and no one else said anything sooner is even more ridiculous. People need to speak up more on stuff like this.
Yep. I have been to so many screenings where people have their phone out, at full brightness and people directly behind them don't say a word. I'm like 8 rows back and it's bothering the crap out of me. How can they not say something?!
💯 agree with you, mate! But man, you lucky bastards the fact you guys got a re-release of Sam Raimis Spiderman Trilogy in the US 😭 I'm in the UK and we never got a re-release for some reason. I'm sooo jealous 😂😂😅
This is true and sad. I have run movie theaters since the 90s. I see this every shift, every day. People pay no attention to anyone around them and treat the theatre like a theme park. Recently we ran Alien 45th anniversary, Star Wars Episode 1:The Phantom Menace 25th anniversary, The Mummy 25th anniversary...all did very well. What does that say about the state of cinema today? We try very hard at our location to create great memories for our guests. Keep up the great work Adam! Love the channel!
Everywhere I go people suck. But yea it’s worse at the theater. People are nasty, disgusting, rude, loud, inconsiderate a-holes. And big surprise their kids are just as bad if not worse.
Movie theaters are an excellent litmus test to see just how good or bad people can be. For the most part, I leave having a positive experience (I have AMC Stubs AList, and see 5-6 movies/month), but there have been plenty of times where I've had to address rude people, which usually works. I'm sure being a Marine with that '1,000 yard stare' helps immensely.
Yep!!! I’m old enough to remember the only concerns when seeing a movie were - getting a good seat, not having a tall person sit in front of you and not having TALKERS near you. Nowadays, the seating issue (and someone’s head in front of you blocking the screen) has been taken care of - and honestly, talkers are no longer a problem. It’s 101% cell phones. That bright ass glow and the fact that they hold it up like a foot from their face so we can all see what they’re looking at during the movie. You’d think that they could at least dial down the brightness and hold it down by their lap if they MUST look at it. Another issue- dim dying bulbs in the projector. So many times I’ve seen a movie and can barely see what’s happening - and it’s completely because the bulbs haven’t been replaced!! Lastly- the other theatre-going issue I despise is when the projector forgets to turn the theatre lights off when the movie starts!
The home viewing experience continues to close the gap on going to the actual theater. I’ll take watching a movie on an 85” screen in 4K quality over putting up with annoying moviegoers.
The last movie I tried to watch in a theater was at an IMAX. The place was almost empty and so I was confused when an old woman and her family sat right next to me. Immediately the stench of perfume hit me and then she started talking at me and coughing. I left before the trailers were even finished and I haven't been back to any theater since. I'm much happier waiting a little while and watching it at home where the only irritating person is me.
I hate theaters. Too many commercials; the previews show gives the entire movie plot for a future release; my ears hurt afterwards (too loud); and the snacks are more expensive than the tickets - which are already too expensive. I wait and stream movies at home.
If I were a theater owner I would train the audience to act accordingly by doing some or all of the following ; 1) No babies ! Movies are entertainment. A baby can be fascinated by a burning building , a dying butterfly or a dead bird .. they are getting zero , nada, nothing out of a bunch a people screaming at each, or making love , or fighting , or flying a plane into a bridge on a big screen ! 2: No phones on in the theater ! Ever! If a phone goes off they must be escorted out ! House rules ! If they refuse ban them ! 3) introduce the damn movie and thank them for coming and making this experience a joint effort in quiet , visual entertainment! Talking is not going to be entertained in this establishment so if you came here to resolve your marriage issues, take it outside in the bar area . 4) Start the damn movie immediately at the time you say your movie STARTS! Not 3 coke ads, 2 theater ads for concessions , not movie trivia for 12 minutes amd 4 seconds , not 8 trailers and a pop up for XD , the actual fkng time you have on the Marquee
I stopped going to the theater for 2 reasons. #1: cellphones, #2: shit movies. The cellphones really killed it for me. People don't give AF about how rude it is and it seems it bothers me more than others in the theater. I take my movies a little more seriously than most people in the theater.
Its worse now. I went to watch Terrifier 3 and there was couple talking. I turned around and gave them a few choice words. Weirdly enough I can remember watching Harry Potter and the Chamber of secrets back in 2002 and the movie theatre was full of little kids and I still don't recall anyone talking. I guess it shows how far we've fallen in just 20 years.
When I had cancer my husband and I had a routine. We would hit Hollywood store, go watch the midnight movie (Aurora was our theater. We weren't there that night), go home to watch our rental til we had to leave for the hospital at 6am.

Back in 2019 I used to go to the movies a lot. But now it’s a bit of a mixed bag and with everything so expensive nowadays I have to make sure it’s worth watching which means you could potentially run into spoilers and turns you off from going to the movies. It’s a conundrum.
It's sad how movie theaters are becoming the new "mall." They're mostly relics. Empty husks from a bygone era, treated like an an afterthought or just a time-killer... Even though people spent a shit ton of money to go to them!
the last time i went to an actual theater, i stood in line for 40 minutes to get to the ticket window only to be told that i had to order tickets online....
They make their money from the concessions, not the tickets. I spent about $65 for 2 tickets, a large popcorn and a medium drink. They do need to lower the prices.
I haven't been to the theaters in months. I used be really into movies. I used to go every weekend. These movies have been so mediocre I don't see the point of dealing with the bs just to be left severely disappointed at the end.
I'm with you, putting aside every a@@@@@e owning a cell phone and the overpriced tickets. I just don't care about most movies getting made these days and I watch mostly movies released before 2010. I've only been to the movies 4 times in the last 5 years., two of them were for older movies, Jaws and Die Hard. The only new movies that I cared to see in theaters in recent years was Dune 2 a few months ago and Top Gun 2 in the summer of 2022.
My local theater is pretty good. I’ve never had a problem there in 27 years of living. Having said that, it’s not usually packed, so there’s less chance of conflict
I’m kinda lucky that my local regal is pretty good to me. The staff are very helpful and people are responsible movie watchers. To be fair though, I haven’t been in a full theater since dune 2. Since then, less than half full but still everybody watching the movie and don’t disrupt others.
During COVID lockdown one of my favorite theaters Cinéoplis closed in NYC. I would usually go during weekday matinee because it was half price before 4pm. The seats were comfortable and popcorn was always freshly made. At that time of day, it was never crowded. Sometimes I would only see less than 5 people in there. Now I just stream a movie at home on my big flat screen.
I'm from Mumbai, India and everything you said is exactly what's going on here, too. The only way I can enjoy a movie in a cinema hall is if I build a huge auditorium just for me and my family.
Theaters needs to survive but there's conditions that are needed to be taken in such as annoying moviegoers, ticket prices being way too high, keep the little babies at home (unless you can make kids behave well or you can't afford a babysitter), take the iPads and such away from kids, keep the damn cellphones turned off on silence or brightness turned down and the worst case scenario....stop talking during the movie and wait until it's over. Theaters needs to start enforcing extreme rules for all of that so people can go and watch theaters. Also, cut down the trailers and commercials to at least 3 or 5. And the number one thing is for all of the annoying people i mentioned, if they can't behave properly, they can wait at least 3-6 months before it comes out in theaters.
Living in Bangkok and the theater experience fucking sucks. 1/10 of the crowd is always either having a full blown conversation or on their phones at max brightness. Maybe 1 in 5 movie going experiences is actually enjoyable and it only happens when I go to some arthouse film that 3 other people bothered to see.
Was going to take my family to see IF this weekend. But when I saw that it was going to cost me over seventy bucks (four of us) to go to a standard show at 2:30 p.m.....I thought....Nah...We can wait. It's laughablely expensive.
7:50 I've got you matched. I went to a concert back in 2016 and there was a parent behind me who was super into the band, and yet next to him were his son and his son's friend, both of whom are staring at their ipad literally the entire show, both sharing a set of earphones. The only emotion they both showed the whole show was an occasional annoyed glance up at the band. Tell me THAT'S not dystopian!
in 2019 I swore off theaters. In 2021 I saw Spiderman No Way Home and I got an AMC A List membership and it was awesome. But the past few times I've been to the theater its just been going back to the same ole bullshit. I wish movies would just all go to streaming so there would be less people at the theater. I have actually been in a movie where a 3 year old was watching cocomelon with the volume on during an R rated horror movie. You just can't defend that.
One of the things that bothers me the most is teenagers theater hopping. They'll come at random points during the movie, leave after a few minutes, and sometimes come back. It's something I never understood. I've also experienced people asking me to leave my seat in an empty theater after they arrived more than 10 minutes late.
Yep, theatrical experience is a nightmare and hey wonder why people don’t go these days. They should invest in staff to patrol any phone jerks and talking etc.
Just found your spinoff channel of rants, and have subscribed-- looking forward to hearing what you have to say about other subjects besides the movies.
I'm going to say something a little controversial, considering it's a mainly US channel. I've only had one bad experience at a cinema about 18 months ago, and it was caused by Americans from RAF Mildenhall (I think). They were loud, messing about and had their phones on. The rest of the audience must have reached a collective breaking point because 4 people in different parts of the room shouted for them to shut up at the same time. They got up and left which was odd too.
For some odd reason , my local movie theatre got rid of the trash can outside. So when I see drinks in the parking lot , I can't throw them away! Just being a concerned citizen
Thankful it's not that bad where I'm at in New England. We can still usually enjoy a film at the theater up here in peace. Somebody might crack a joke during the movie but that's expected in this region as long as the joke is decent.
I'm a movie lover and used to have this problem but I found if you go to a matinee before noon there's usually hardly anybody in there because these assholes people don't get up before noon
i don't think theaters will disappear. what we're starting to see more is movies made with smaller budgets, by smaller production companies. if a movie theater is only going to show the big budget crap (like Marvel or DC) they need to sell way more tickets to compensate for the price. if we have smaller movie theaters showing lower-budget films, the true cinemaphiles will bring their wallets. it's a pattern similar to music: it used to be that a band would require an expensive studio and record label to promote the hell out of them, and now we're in a period in which people can record in their own homes, mix and master the audio on their PC, distribute via BandCamp, and promote via music blogs. in my eyes, art is continually getting better as time marches on. it just takes some work discovering the more niche artists, be they musicians or filmmakers. Hollywood will rarely put out something great these days, but smaller horror films and companies like A24 are filling the gaps.
I go to the Alamo only. I am guaranteed a good time every time. Victory Reward!! Four tickets for $7.80 total. I can't remember what it was like to go to the cinema as a plebian and have to suffer the misery. Sometimes we roll by a Regal on our way to the Alamo so that we can point and chuckle as we head off to Eden. I've never thought about how people have become accustomed to bad habits at home as they watch their streaming movie, and now bring those bad habits to the cinema.
I just had an Alamo open an hour from me in Naples, FL. I went on opening day. While I appreciate the staffing level, the Alamo is a whole NEW set of disrupting problems. From the waiters hunching over through the aisle to deliver food and drinks next to you every five minutes, to the damn menu lights you can't turn off underneath the tray arm. I literally sat through all of The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare with the menu propped-up on my crossed knee and balanced against the arm, so I didn't see that light in the corner of my eye. Annoying.
Subscription services such as Regal Unlimited or AMC A List are great but it must be inconvenient when you have to book additional seats for guests as a separate transaction. The cost can be significant as well.
Movie theaters were my part-time job of choice during college, and I guess I was lucky to be there during the golden age of the late '90s/early 2000s. Like you said, you'd have at least 2 people in the box office, 3 or 4 in concession stand (both sides of the lobby if it was busy), and 1 or 2 ushers to tear tickets and clean between showings. Plus the managers and projectionist upstairs. There were maybe 3 or 4 employees in the whole 18-screen theater when we went to see "Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare" last month, and all seemed miserable and incapable of eye contact.
I don’t mind the phone occasionally making an appearance, what baffles me is not turning the brightness down. Not turning brightness down should put you on a list imho
I don’t go to the movies anymore because, due to the increasingly short time between a movie’s theatrical release and being able to watch it at home, the theaters have put themselves in direct competition with the home viewing experience. Why would I pay a premium to sit in a dark room of strangers when, a lot of times, I can watch the same flick, at home, on the day of its theatrical release? If it isn’t day and date, can just wait 2-3 months for it to drop on VOD/streaming/cable. As the increasingly powerful home consoles made arcades obsolete, so has this release schedule done for the theaters. Convenience always wins out.
Adam you always hit the nail on the head. I haven’t been to the movie theatre since across the spider verse came out. I was really looking forward to it and it was ruined by a group of people talking in front of me, something I use to love became a pain in the ass. I’ve fallen behind on some of your videos recently time to catch up 😊
I miss the Arclight in Hollywood. No ads… just 3 trailers. I like Alamo. No talking/texting or you get kicked out without a refund. No coming in when the movie starts. AMC and Regal annoy me. Movies start 30 to 40 mins after the time on the ticket.
Born in 63 Going to the movies nowadays is pathetic, judging by my childhood moviegoing experiences, doublefeatures with shorts and cartoons for $1.25, drive-ins, ornate old theaters lost to history . . .
I agreed with all of this. I've seen a lot of people mention the same issues, but you're the first to mention that the majority of movies are just mediocre now and I think that's definitely part of the reason people aren't going out as much or caring if they're on their phone. I've noticed the number of movies that I really love has gone down a ton the past two years
I go to the AMC at Rosedale Mall (perhaps you’re familiar, my Minnesota comrade), and have been seeing a movie every week to two weeks with my A-List for many years now. Honestly, the majority of my experiences have been pretty solid, save for a few scattered incidents. The worst was likely the woman who had a full on phone conversation in a packed Killers of the Flower Moon. Major bystander effect that night because no one did anything about it (but I often reflect on this moment and am sickened by my lack of action 🫨).
I haven't been to a movie theater since January 2020, that was before the pandemic shut the world down and even then the vibe in there was dead. Movie theaters have been dying for a long time. Now I just wait for movies to be released on home video/streaming.
I love films and the theater. But the past couple of years I haven’t been going but maybe 3 times a year because the prices are ridiculous, people suck, and there’s not that communal energy anymore. So sad
I'm in Australia and believe me, people are no better over here. I haven't been to the movies in about 5 years give or take, for 2 reasons. People suck and modern day movies suck.
The key is to wait until the initial tide has broken a few weeks into the release and the theater will be less crowded. "Hell is other people", Sarte said, so choose your timing wisely, including showtimes. For you, as a movie critic, there is no hope. Alas!
A group of teenagers during Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes were watching tik toks, throwing their hats, talking, and jumping up and down in their chairs like toddlers. It was a Friday but damn... absolute nightmare. Why even go to the theatre? You're wasting yours and everyone else's time and hard earned money.
In Finland it's not allowed to bring your own soda and candy. Also kicking the seat in front of you must be the new national sport. I go to the movies maybe 3-4 times a year, it's so horrible.
Over the past few years, I've had plenty of great movie theater experiences over at Cineplex. Let me tell you my favorite experiences of all time: 1. Avengers: Endgame (2019) 2. Spider-Man: Far From Home (2019) 3. Spider-Man: No Way Home (2021) 4. Spider-Man: Across The Spider-Verse (2023) 5. The Batman (2022) On the other hand Adam, I understand where you are coming from. The one thing that gets on my nerves when going to the theater is when a baby starts kicking the seat in front of them making the person who is sitting in said seat uncomfortable and angry. Last year on Boxing Day, me and my family went and saw the Bollywood movie Dunki. About halfway through the movie, my young brother started kicking the seat in front of me and kept crying about dropping his toy and losing it! It was so bad to the point where the person in front gave my brother a dirty look and said to my dad: "You need to get your kid under control." That's the reason why I decided to go to the theater with a group of friends instead of my parents.
I remember those good old days! Those extra ushers had flashlights so if anybody got loud, more than once, they shined it on you and was told to leave!!!
As much as many people dislike the movie, I have to say The Strangers Chapter 1 was one of my most memorable theater experiences in a long time. The crowd hated the main characters so much, that when they get captured, the whole theater erupted in applause and cheers.
The last time I went to see a movie in a theater was in 2015, to see Star Wars: The Force Awakens but otherwise, I stopped going to movies in theaters regularly in 2007.
I pretty much only go the local Cinemark theater on Tuesdays now because it's only $5 to see movies. I'll catch up on the movies that just came out and usually there's not many people.
I'm right there with you. I have had great experiences watching movies in a crowded theater, like when everyone reacted to the Avengers Endgame final battle. That was amazing and definitely could only be experienced in the theater. But those experiences are few and far between, and now everyone is just staring at their phones and talking during the movie, and I'd rather be at home.
Truly unfortunate how bad it's gotten. All the way around. From the lack of respect in movie theaters to the quality of the films being produced. I hate to say that I feel like we're passed the point of no return and that deeply saddens me as someone who thoroughly enjoyed the cinema experience growing up. I guess I can simply take solace in the fact that I was even able to experience those times as opposed to never experiencing it at all. And for that, I'm forever grateful and will look back on those times fondly. RIP old friend...
So true. At least half the movies I go to have people talking loud and texting or taking photos of the screen. I can’t belive how bad it’s gotten in the last 8-10 years, and the 2-3 last years have been the worst. I will see Costner’s Horizon and maybe the new Alien and then I’m out.
I haven’t been inside a movie theater since the Batman Returns massacre in Aurora, Colorado. It’s just not a good idea to enter a darkened room with possibly armed strangers dealing with varying degrees of mental health.
Theaters were fun when we were kids because it was a chance to feel free...we hung with our friends and escaped our family. Now kids can virtually hang with their friends online all night if they want and escape from parents via video games and such.
i used to have these issues with bigger movie chains, like Marcus and AMC... but then i discovered The Alamo Drafthouse, which is a godsend. they enforce phone bans and not talking. and the people who do attend the Drafthouse near me are cinephiles who are respectful. avoid the childrens' theaters if at all possible. i've never had such good movie theater experiences as with Alamo Drafthouse.
Where I live, people aren’t too rude, but I do remember going to my local Movie Tavern and there were two people in front of me about 3 rows to my right that were on their phones for almost all of John Wick 4. No one said anything.
Once the movie theater became an amusement park and restaurant I lost interest..I’m there for a movie to be my distraction not all the other nonsense..Go get them ADAM!!
The truth is that these individuals said sir to get your attention while simultaneously throwing a spinning heel kick that lands perfectly on the temple of your head as you turn their direction. Then they give you permission to enjoy the f**cking movie.
I feel lucky that I don't deal with any of these things as a frequent movie goer myself. I'm a Cinemark movie member so I don't pay ridiculous prices and I go by myself usually for an empty matinee showing I have had bad experiences though for sure.
You shouldn't be allowed to bring your phones into a movie theater since they have a camera on them, just like you've never been allowed to bring video cameras into a movie theater cuz that's how people made bootlegs back in the day.
I worked at a movie theater Loved working there get to see free movies , take posters home when they are done showing I quit because they took away my movie privileges , couldn't come to midnight movies again , teenagers working at theater are stupid for getting me in trouble i tried to go back after people that got me in trouble left but they said no I'm the problem not them
@cyrollan yeah well I was crushed by that cause they accused me of taking pics of girls on my phone which is not true they put me on one month suspension if I went to my theater to watch movies they would extend my suspension so I quit because of it
I'm living in the US now, but Im not from the US. Back in the day in my country, going to the movies was exactly that, going to the movies, not eating or drinking, not popcorn or sodas or candy, if you wanted to eat, that what we have homes or restaurants for. It kills me when people open noise wrappers, chewing and crap like that.
Certainly different here in AUS, prices are like 20-25 dollars for a ticket depending on what theatre and seats you want. Usually moviegoers are very quiet through the duration of the film but there is always that one person who’s phone rings 15 minutes into the movie. No one cheers/ claps during or after the film, only time that ever happened was of course avengers end game.

It's 2024 and he's recording a movie that's 16 years old like it's about to be a top dollar bootleg 😂 wiiiiild
Instead of yelling at him, you could've offered him $2 to go to Goodwill to buy the Blu-ray. He would've thought you're from The Future. 😅

Keep fighting the good fight!
Doing Aliens AND especially Alien3, going against the grain, would be so fantastic. I hope you will see better times! (Better people really!!)
Everywhere I go people suck. But yea it’s worse at the theater. People are nasty, disgusting, rude, loud, inconsiderate a-holes. And big surprise their kids are just as bad if not worse.
Absolutely this.
Not to mention seeing 100 commercials for stupid shit and the commercials arent even exclusive or good
Movie theaters are an excellent litmus test to see just how good or bad people can be.
Always here for the group therapy sessions of disgruntled theater goers. Fun video Adam, always enjoy when you do these hilarious rants
Phones and body odors made me stay home. 100” screen , 4K projector better at home.

Will they turn them into residences like abandoned malls?
They were always time killers
It's not the theaters fault, society has turned into introverted freaks that spend more time looking at a cellphone than they do other people.
the last time i went to an actual theater, i stood in line for 40 minutes to get to the ticket window only to be told that i had to order tickets online....
I've been thinking of making a video like this for very similar reasons. I'm fed up with people and hate going to afternoon/evening showings now.
TLJ was the last time I went to the theater. Not just SW, the theater overall. So done!
This is why i am very strategic when it comes to going to the cinema !
I spent $50 last time i went to Imax that included snacks and popcorn. It's getting really expensive.
Always has been. Eat BEFORE YOU GO
They make their money from the concessions, not the tickets. I spent about $65 for 2 tickets, a large popcorn and a medium drink. They do need to lower the prices.

I haven't been to the theaters in months. I used be really into movies. I used to go every weekend. These movies have been so mediocre I don't see the point of dealing with the bs just to be left severely disappointed at the end.
yeah the past year and a half has sucked horribly

I'm going to watch this video with no headphones and the volume cranked to the max the next time I go to a movie
I wasn't sure what you were talking about until you made those sound effects.
There really should be an Alamo Drafthouse in every metro area.
Loved the rant, Adam ❤ yes, the budgets, especially last year, were /are ridiculous
I haven't gone to the theater since 2019. I genuinely miss it, but it's not worth the headache.
you just have to find theaters that adults attend. they're out there. avoid the giant movie chains.
in 2019 I swore off theaters.
I recently started going to lunchtime matinee screenings and have found them mostly empty, clean and quiet. My theater has assigned seating too.
I can’t agree with you more. The loud wrapper noise kills me! But is the blue bag on your neighbors house still?! That’s what i want to know!
It is STILL ON HIS HOUSE!!!!
Just found your spinoff channel of rants, and have subscribed-- looking forward to hearing what you have to say about other subjects besides the movies.
Awesome, thanks!
Johnny McFatass 😂😂
Thankful it's not that bad where I'm at in New England. We can still usually enjoy a film at the theater up here in peace. Somebody might crack a joke during the movie but that's expected in this region as long as the joke is decent.
I'm a movie lover and used to have this problem but I found if you go to a matinee before noon there's usually hardly anybody in there because these assholes people don't get up before noon
Week nights are also Way Better than weekends
i don't think theaters will disappear. what we're starting to see more is movies made with smaller budgets, by smaller production companies. if a movie theater is only going to show the big budget crap (like Marvel or DC) they need to sell way more tickets to compensate for the price. if we have smaller movie theaters showing lower-budget films, the true cinemaphiles will bring their wallets. it's a pattern similar to music: it used to be that a band would require an expensive studio and record label to promote the hell out of them, and now we're in a period in which people can record in their own homes, mix and master the audio on their PC, distribute via BandCamp, and promote via music blogs.
in my eyes, art is continually getting better as time marches on. it just takes some work discovering the more niche artists, be they musicians or filmmakers.
Annoying.
@@damonappelmake a suggestion to them to add switches to the seats so the menus only light up when someone is occupying the seats.
This exists before streaming
Subscription services such as Regal Unlimited or AMC A List are great but it must be inconvenient when you have to book additional seats for guests as a separate transaction. The cost can be significant as well.
everything becoming garbage not just movies
Definitely agree with your on theatre cleanliness. The state in many theaters in my area is pretty embarrassing.
Alamo is the best! once they installed one in St. Louis, i stopped going anywhere else. it's a fantastic movie going experience.

Going to the movies nowadays is pathetic,

Over the past few years, I've had plenty of great movie theater experiences over at Cineplex. Let me tell you my favorite experiences of all time:
1. Avengers: Endgame (2019)
2. Spider-Man: Far From Home (2019)
3. Spider-Man: No Way Home (2021)
4. Spider-Man: Across The Spider-Verse (2023)
5. The Batman (2022)
On the other hand Adam, I understand where you are coming from.
Same. I only go rarely to the latest ones on Tuesdays for a discount and several weeks later after it has premiered.
It’s just not a good idea to enter a darkened room with possibly armed strangers dealing with varying degrees of mental health.
respectfully, it was The Dark Knight Rises. Batman Returns is awesome though! my favorite of the original quadrilogy.

I'm a Cinemark movie member so I don't pay ridiculous prices and I go by myself usually for an empty matinee showing

Certainly different here in AUS, prices are like 20-25 dollars for a ticket depending on what theatre and seats you want.
