Dang, that's actually pretty cool. Imagine if in another few years the eldrazi are released again and Emrakul is actually against her brothers, maybe even in the form of a planeswalker in her angelic form.
I doubt that, it seemed more like she was aware of their death or apparent disappearance, so she couldn’t do her job 100%, their world shapers; she’s the strongest yes but the others had tasks as well so she said “I’m done doing this since I’m alone”.
I believe Emrakul sealed herself because she is underdeveloped. She needs to mature first because she is meant to bring life, not destruction. She states it is suppose to blossom but the soil is un-receptive. Is it possible she wishing to make life like every other female in nature? the possibility of the birth of a new plane? She is part of the blind eternities after all. She does also have power on par to a planeswalker before the mending. With that being said Karn made an entire plane, so it should be possible for Emrakul to make one also. At least I believe she wants to do so.
Oh god, what if Emmrukul is pregnant somehow but the baby isn't developing or is taking a long time too, this is probably a stretch since they aren't physical beings but at the same time not much is known about the eldrazis, I feel like ulomog was the son of of emrukul and that k titans lil can't spell it, what if emrukul and (the titan that will be now referred as) k are a thing and that's why u never saw her in zendekar bc she doesn't want to put the baby in danger
I can only think of two reasons for Emrakul to imprison herself: 1. She was running low on energy and had to take a nap. 2. Emrakul knows of a better time to take over Innastrad. 3. Emrakul isn't Chaotic Evil, but perhaps Pure Neutral. Perhaps unlike her fellow titans, she wishes to rebirth Innastrad as a better world and not the shadow it currently is.
I can think of a fourth although it's part of the third you gave out. And that is that the Titans were made to recycle the multiverse. They were made to transfer the mana from one plane and produce a new one with the same life force. Because the multiverse expands and goes on limitless it's understandable that there must be wardens to keep the multiverse from being TOO large. Considering there is a nexus in the form of dominara that all the planes manas are linked to I some way makes me think that too many planes would cause the nexus to collapse and effect all planes. Emrakul locked herself away perhaps because she decided that the multiverse is in no need of her services at the moment. though I'm perplexed how she isn't full of rage seeing how the two other entities that share her work have "died". I'd like just to point out that she was writing something. So her "job" in the multiverse is interesting to think about. If jaces mind percieves what emrakuls doing as paperwork one can assume that she isn't a malovelent bieng. But rather a tired one just trying to do the job to protect the multiverse. I dunno perhaps I'm just rambling. But I hope I've entertained you're thoughts at least.
+Selfter Can't the other two come back? Im sure it was said that the titans have a essence form that it goes into once the physical form "dies". And they come back from that form. It would really matter for emrakul. Maybe like option #2 she is waiting for the other two.
Emrakul has a lot more personality to her (it?) which I really like. However, this just may be because she can effectively communicate while the other Titans could not.
I think Emrakul (Emeria) hates being an abomination that creates insanity in her wake. Perhaps something more powerful than the Eldrazi had transformed them into the creatures they now are. Where was Ugin? What has Nicol Bolas been scheming? Could Kaladesh hold any secrets to what is to come? Always more questions than answers! Can't wait for the movies!
Watch, Phyrexians will invade Innistrad in the future and Emrakul will return. In which I see her being able to turn them into beings of life and use their oil to ultimately defeat them. Phyrexia is the creation of man, while Eldrazi is, in a sense, divine. Emrakul was trying to turn natural things into natural, but could not understand why she created monstrosities (she was once considered an angel, after all) that caused destruction. Perhaps her effect on Phyrexians will be opposite.
This is why I love MTG; The lore in and of itself is so deep and interesting but then you can see it in action in the form of the cards as you play the game. You can hear an amazing story about Emrakul, Liliana, and Jace, then play them as cards in the actual game. That crux of strategy and lore is just sooooo compelling.
It's been six years, another Innistrad block, and Emtakul is still on that moon. Would've been cool if they had like a single eldrazi reference card, but alas. Twas not meant to be.
Could it be that the Eldrzai weren't a force of destruction but of rebirth? I believe Ugin said he wasn't happy about the other two's destruction as they had no idea what the Eldrzai truly were and why they existed, to add to this we have Her meeting with Jace as Emerakul didn't really come off as evil or monsterous, and finally the biggest evidence for the Eldrazi being a force of rebirth and not and evil force is what the Spirits of the Chainveil said "...we must flee the world ender the world creator." which basically spells it out.
i had the same conclusion, but a bit more like they are (part of) the multiverse. like life on earth returns to the soil, consumed by microorgranisms, to let new things grow, so the eldrazis consume planes to free the mana for new multiverses or something like that. As we know there exists only a finite number of planes...
Maybe she thought that she should try again when Inistrad was willing to embrace her "I am incomplete, unfulfilled, there should be blossoms not resentment, the soil was not receptive it is not my time, not yet" could mean that she will try at Inistrad again plus, the veil did say world creator. Also I wonder what Tamyo was going to do with the world ending spell anyone have an idea?
More likely rebirth through destruction than simply rebirth. Emrakul is a creative force in her own way, and it might only be here that was more of a destructive good (intent wise) and not the other eldrazi but in a way my theory supports all of them being suited for this purpose. She might have had her powers somehow corrupted over the eons she has lived or they might be better suited to save dying planes rather than on planes with strong life. A plane that is dying is low on mana compared to a mana rich plane like Zendikar, however with that mana she could modify the existing life. A dying plane could be saved by the three of them, Emrakul turns what life there is there into beings that leave behind flesh and bone from what they consume, Ulamog's can consume non-living matter, and eventually Kozilek's influence would lead to inceased competition. Together in small numbers a planes mana flow would be spared some strain and potentially recover if it were damaged especially since they can be used for bits of mana their selves. They seek mana and thus follow the leylines but a by product of this is they would also find those harnessing the planes mana for magic and the conflict would ultimately lead to less drain on the planes mana. The eldrazi while they do need to consume mana from what we see are not inherently destructive but transformative in ways that simply are off putting to others. However they would provide an opportunity for life to start again in some way with less drain on a planes leylines in small numbers after wiping out the other drains on the mana and thus they could potentially save planes once evolution kicks in leading to even less draining Eldrazi for the same purpose and eventually one's that generate mana instead of draining it and then bringing back diversity over time.
Luke Bethke well... it was one of her forbidden spells, so probably nothing should would have used on her own. She used it, because emrakul wanted it and he took over her mind. Tamiyo may have that spell because she is a Moonfolk and doesn't want to waste knowledge. Also it's always good to have one last thing you could do if something realy goes wrong.
Just found this channel. Listening to you call out the lore for the game fills a hole in my work day that I can't actually spend reading. Thank you for what you do!
So since the next set is Kaladesh and Chandra's plane of origin, will we be going to the other origin planes of the other Gatewatch members? Because I'd really like to see Dominaria again.
Well i rather hope for new planes or for Theros (so that Elspeth can return). There has been to much Dominaria over the years. I´ve read a lot of the novels in the last half year and i am honestly sick of the plane.
I get that you're sick of it because you've been reading about it lately, but for the rest of us its been almost ten years since we've been on Dominaria.
+Anthony Franco what about the infinite consortium, Headed by tezzeret we know that Jace did destroy the Ravnica branch but it was made clear in the book that other branches exists so maybe they are already in the works
Nicol Bolas masterminded the release of the Eldrazi, right? Was his plan to have them die or something, maybe thats why Emrakul sealed itself away. Then again maybe he just needed a distraction or something, who knows.
Omg thats the was a good lore 2 parter even though they still have alot to finish like sorin and narhi Plus i feel like the book will play a major part in the next few sets I am also so glad emrakul was not killed off but wait if she was not on zendikar and was pulled to innastrad where was she between we could see another set where she had corrupted another plane I shared this on facebook and i hope there will be more before we leave innastrad Btw i love the choice of the prizes
Hey, love the videos man! As a newer player, they've been super helpful for understanding what more experienced players are talking about when they reference older blocks, and I feel like they just help me understand the game more overall.
I found your Chanel about a month ago (this is when I decided I wanted to know the lore of the game, not just how to play) and I have been slowly going through your lore videos. I really appreciate that you make these. In addition Emrakul would fit in a game-day deck idea I am trying to make, Thank you for your time if you read this.
That fatpack sounds nice, but I am here to discuss theories about Emrakul's intentions (Still though Seiben, a fatpack does sound nice...) Maybe she went back into the blind eternities to rest while Kozilek and Ulamog destroyed Zendikar, because she thought they could handle it, not expecting a force of planeswalkers to invade and kill them. So as she is resting, Zendikar's mana is drastically reduced, causing her to become confused, but not worried. This would be when Chandra incinerates Zendikar. So as she sits resting, a plane becomes abundant with mana again. Emrakul, deciding this is Zendikar, goes and investigates. Upon arrival, she discovers she has been tricked, her brothers are dead, and she is on the wrong plane. So she wreaks havoc upon Innistrad in anger, but grows concerned as the Gatewatch arrives, and decides it is safer to lull them into a sense of security by imprisoning herself. Of course if this is true, she will break out of her prison as soon as she deems it safe enough, putting us back on Innistrad once again.
I like that but I would rather see Emrakul more of a sympathetic being. Think about it what if she seal away her madness to protect the plain. What if she was different from her brothers and she wanted to help plains blossom but everything instead turn mad after she tough this became the biggest irony. She finally finds away while looking though the minds of the plainswalkers using this to learn of a way to stop her madness from touching the plain and than being the great white lights of hope she has always wanted to become. Emrekul she was not Meara the true angel of hope she had become finally she could become what she has always wanted a ray of hope rather that a monster she has been.
well, she did say that they're all her pieces. I would imaging she is much like god in your lives. even the chain vail knows what emrakul is. one other thing: (my opinion)the other two eldrazi titans didn't have they're leader so they were doing as they pleased. PS. a fat pack does sound nice. I never pull anything good, but its still very fun to open booster packs :)
Fellipe Sebastian I have the same luck with pulling cards. Only once have I ever had good luck. During my first draft during theros, my first pack I pulled an Ashiok I believe, and my last one an Ajani mentor of heros. I was just like Why don't I ever get this normally?!?!? I bought like 5-10 boosters during SOI and I got nothing good, I don't even think a mythic!
What if all three Eldrazi Titans are one being that has been broken apart, and she needs a massive amount of mana to restore her. It could explain how they all twist life and pull mana from the land and destroy it, if it's an inversion of her rightful form. possibly twisted and broken by other planeswalkers.
I heard once that each eldrazi titan had a different job(power). they are more like two brothers and an older sister. little was known about the eldrazi till shadows, but still we know little about them, so maybe. maybe you are right. its a good thought. :)
Thank you for doing these videos as I myself rarely have the time to read the lore but with your videos I can listen to them and do other things at the same time.
I do think that the lore is rather plain with how they simply sealed Emrakul to the moon but I do love the extra twist that they added with Emrakul sealing herself. Keep up the great work Seiben!!
But in respect to the lore, I'll speculate that something or someone made the eldrazi, and that Emrakul has an underlying consciousness that knows that she's doing and being used for an awful purpose. Like she's tired of the destruction and death on a regular basis.
I found you a couple days ago and I gotta say, you're doing an amazing feat. With every video you bring the stories to life for me. thank you for what you're doing!!! I'm in the process of liking all your videos just because of these two story arcs I've heard from you (SOI and ELM)
@Seiben I appreciate all the hard work you put on your channel. You and Starcity's commander series really appreciate magic as a whole. Keep it up man!
A satisfying conclusion to the story. I know people were complaining that the Eldrazi were too easy to defeat this time, but this story finally does Emrakul some much needed justice as the Cuthulu monster.
emrakul is everything i wanted her to be!! im glad you agree with me about the story being a good finish to the shadows over innistrad block :) im liking the videos recently. keep it up buddy
I am an Eldrazi fanatic, and i'm really glad that wizards didn't kill the Eldrazi off yet, and that everything that occured in Eldritch Moon, including her own imprisonment, is part of some plan that she has. It's truly mindblowing to me. Thank you Seiban for doing the summary on this rarely large story wizards had. I myself skipped through some parts when I was reading it, so it was nice to have a summary of everything.
Maybe even Eldrazi hints during the Kaladesh block coming out soon? I mean, the Gatewatch is basically an anti-eldrazi best friends team, made up of some of mtg's most well-known planeswalkers, so we may see some more eldrazi soon, which will make my eldrazi fan heart explode.
Hi Seiben, I've loved watching your videos that you produce. I have so many questions about Emrakul and what she did to herself and what she was talking about. This was a good story like you said in part one. Thanks for the video and keep up the amazing work.
man i just got back to the game stopped playing in mirrodin siege and i just love to get to know all the lore in just fun to watch videos this channel is a bless for a lore enthusiast like myself tnx seiben
OMG the whole story was amazing, UGHH.. I love how we get a glimpse of what Emrakul could really be. Just like what Ugin told them before, they may have a bigger role then we know. SOO EXCITED
I have to say, thats a really bone chilling end for SOI/EMN. Feels pretty cryptic. And at the same time, makes me rethink about the Eldrazi overall. Maybe these creatures are actually incomplete beings with a greater purpose? idk. TIME TO READ! Thank you again Seiban! Can't wait for your future videos
I loved the ending personally. When Tamyio told jade how she created the spell it gave me chills. I hope to see Emrakul back on another plane but maybe as the good guy this time, like united against bolas would be cool.
That is a good end and leaves questions that probably won't be answered. Fitting for a Emrakul given her inspiration, we'll never know the whole truth.
I'm pleased with how this all turned out. I think it was cool to combine two of the greatest sets of all time (Zendikar and Innistrad) into a new set. Zombies vs Eldrazi, seems like a once in a lifetime event.
Thanks for this channel Seiben! Really enjoy the things you do and how you present the lore. Keep up the good work \m/ And I've never seen a channel giving away cards and prizes! I really do wonder what Emrakul is planning..
Emrakul is a total badass. She got bored and helped them seal herself because yes? Holy hell, that's just amazing. I hope Emrakul comes back but with another perspective.
My guess: Liliana will lure the Gatewatch into killing the demons she is still in debt with, and some planeswalkers will die. Great video SeibenMTG, as always! Thank you
I really love how they are writing Liliana. I can't wait to see where this goes. The Emrakul stuff is also very interesting. I know everyone is tired of Eldrazi, but I'm excited tha we will see her again.
Emrakul's arc was suprisingly satisfying as I suspected that they would've ended it in another Comic Book Superhero-y feel and just insta win against Emrakul in the end without any major losses. The thing that surprised me the most was a slight shift in Jace's mindset.
Liliana is such a badass!!! I cannot wait to see what happens when they inevitably revisit this story in the future and cannot help but wonder if we should encounter Nahiri in Kaladesh!
I'm pretty pumped for Kaladesh now. I'm sure the Gatewatch is going to be up to something there, and I'm pretty interested in getting more insight into what Lilliana might be planning.
I like the fact that they are just binding Emrakul into the moon of Innistrad. That will open up another opportunity to return to it, to have a BFI block. XD
The parallels I found between Yawgmoth and Emrakul at this point are eerie. Speaking of Yawgmoth, seeing as though we might be coming up on an artifact cycle any chance of doing any lore on him and his rival Urza.
Really mind boggling end. Not really sure what to make of it but props to the story writers, fantastic story teling and vivid living detail from them, just awesome! Still want to know where was Arlin Cord, I was hoping she would take a part in the story since she was a planes walker introduced...
Emerakul "Screw you guys. I'm going to my room!"
Jace "WTF!?"

"Destroyer of Worlds. Creator of Worlds" Maybe more than just planets... Or the chess reference about all the pieces always having been hers?
The lore has gotten so good within the last few blocks and this one just blew the roof off. I can't wait to see where all this goes!
They needed a lot of mana to imprison Emrakul? It just cost 3 mana! Omg noobs.
Best MTG joke ever
I mean, since Emrakul stole their turn, it probably took them a bunch of mana to draw the spell from their deck or recur it.
seems like a turn 7 fight to me
noob elvish piper
which spell?
I can only think of two reasons for Emrakul to imprison herself:
*three reasons

+Corey Caine-madkins Didn't they get exiled or trapped in there bodies? Anyway I think they wont come back
Actually there are spirits you now, maybe after death the souls are stuck on zendikar perhaps trapped in a renaming hedron
Emrakul has a lot more personality to her (it?) which I really like. However, this just may be because she can effectively communicate while the other Titans could not.

@Seth Cornwell 4 years in the future and we’re still waiting to return to phyrexia :P

The ending of this lore gave me goosebumps, just how Emrakul manipulated Tamiyo to imprison herself until the multiverse was ready
I suppose only Emrakul could cause the imprisonment of Emrakul. Either way good story. Can't wait to see when the eldrazi come back in like 5 years
It's been six years, another Innistrad block, and Emtakul is still on that moon. Would've been cool if they had like a single eldrazi reference card, but alas. Twas not meant to be.

+prime dialga That explains it pretty well. Thanks!
Just found this channel. Listening to you call out the lore for the game fills a hole in my work day that I can't actually spend reading. Thank you for what you do!
I'm pretty new to magic, and honestly, lore is what's getting me invested the most. It's great how in depth the lore can be.

Metal Man Yeah just looked, Time Spiral really is 2007. Damn that was long ago XD
Ironic
youre in luck
Now I want a counter to the Gatewatch like a group of evil planeswalkers trying to take over the multiverse :)
a legion of doom version of the gatewatch.
Planes walking slivers... Or planeswalking slivers corrupted by phyrexia 100% definitely will happen.
Led of course by one Nicol Bolas
So far each plane has introduced a some what villain Ob Nixilis and now Nahiri so something could be building towards a war between planeswalkers
Thank you! I really enjoyed that you split the videos. We call that dramatic tension.
This was by far my favorite end to a block so far!
I want to know what Sorin and Nahiri think about Emrakul being defeated.
That would be awesome
Nahiri would be "welp gg i guess"
omg i just realised... tentacool -> tentacruel -> emrakul. XD they even have a similar body shape! lol (i am 100% joking XD)
Omg thats the was a good lore 2 parter even though they still have alot to finish like sorin and narhi
Plus i feel like the book will play a major part in the next few sets
I am also so glad emrakul was not killed off but wait if she was not on zendikar and was pulled to innastrad where was she between we could see another set where she had corrupted another plane
I shared this on facebook and i hope there will be more before we leave innastrad
Btw i love the choice of the prizes

It kind of seemed like eldritch moon was a lot shorter than SOI or OGW
Ya it was kinda disappointing
however, the story was pretty good. there is space to be continue.
But the story seems to be more interesting emrkuls purpose lilianas plan
youre right but the story itself did not disappoint.
VGFTW thank you
I wouldn't mind to be used by Liliana 😏
She would kill you first so you would be missing out on what you have in mind lol
+Coltin Yancey True😆
Im so glad they went this route with the story, love Emrakul
@Seiben I appreciate all the hard work you put on your channel. You and Starcity's commander series really appreciate magic as a whole. Keep it up man!
I really enjoyed this round of lore, especially the implications with that ending. Basically, I'm really excited to see where we go from here.
Your channel is awesome. I just started playing and being able to listen to your FNL while I work on other things helps me learn about all the lore!
I started listening at the beginning of shadows over innistrad, and I'm hooked. Currently going through the entire back-catalog of episodes
great set of videos and super generous give away! thanks for all the hour of enjoyment!
The flavor in this set is good, especially in Emrakul. Thanks for the narration dude! Your videos are the best.
gotta admit I had a hard time wrapping my head around this one. Thank god for these videos
new to the channel and mtg in general but the lore is some of the deepest I've read in a while. love the content you make!
Wow I myself like how this ended , so much left unsaid, and so much we might see in the future, And awesome giveaway seiben . Love this Channel.
This has got to be one of the most convoluted endings in Magic Lore so far. They really pulled off the Lovecraftian horror inspiration here.
The lore of mtg never ceases to amaze me with how insanely weird and convoluted it can get
OMG the whole story was amazing, UGHH.. I love how we get a glimpse of what Emrakul could really be. Just like what Ugin told them before, they may have a bigger role then we know. SOO EXCITED
this is one of my favorite blocks and the lore makes this set a lot better I can't wait for the next set
These stories get more interesting every week. I do like to see the give away prizes. Can't wait to see what the next block is.
This is a dope retelling of the story my dude. best wishes on your channel lmaooo
Emrakul is smarter than we thought, the story is great and love the lore of the shadows block.
Emrakul is a total badass. She got bored and helped them seal herself because yes? Holy hell, that's just amazing. I hope Emrakul comes back but with another perspective.
seiben, soooooo good again! appreciate you putting up the lore. absolutely makes playing mtg much much better! thank you! shared!
Thank you, Seiben, Thank you for sharing such wonderfulls stories i myself haven't gotten around to reading. so sincerly thank you.
I really like the idea of Emerakul imprisoning herself in the moon it was a nice touch
So interesting, never would have thought she imprisoned herself willingly but glad that shes still around
That was surprisingly the best end I can imagine for Emrakul, at least for now. Imprisoned on her own terms!
Man what an awesome prize!
And an awesome conclusion! thanks for sharing Seiben- I'm sure we haven't seen the last of Emrakul~
emrakul really is so interesting. the fact she chose to be sealed and has that level of power is mind blowing [no pun intended]
My guess: Liliana will lure the Gatewatch into killing the demons she is still in debt with, and some planeswalkers will die. Great video SeibenMTG, as always! Thank you
Love your videos Seiben, no one else could do these as good as you do
I really love how they are writing Liliana. I can't wait to see where this goes. The Emrakul stuff is also very interesting. I know everyone is tired of Eldrazi, but I'm excited tha we will see her again.
That was pretty cool of an end. Hope to see more of Tamiyo in future.
Definitely did not see that coming with Emrakul doing that to herself. lol
Great read to the end (sorta) of this saga! Can't wait till we get into Kaladesh!
Emrakul's arc was suprisingly satisfying as I suspected that they would've ended it in another Comic Book Superhero-y feel and just insta win against Emrakul in the end without any major losses. The thing that surprised me the most was a slight shift in Jace's mindset.
wow I think this bit of lore left more questions than there were before epic video keep it up
Holy crap i never knew alot about mtg lore but ive always played, Thanks for making me look at my cards different Seiben
XD
Hey SibenMTG keep up the good work on telling the lore on MTG. You do a good job with it.
I love your lore videos man, i don't have the patience to read and you help out a lot
great lore video i love the new emurkul the promised end. with some nice combo cards you can end games using other peoples turns lol
Awesome story, and told well! Good job Seiben!
That was a well done conclusion. "Emrakul imprisoned herself"...
I'm excited to see that we didn't lose our last Eldrazi Titan. She was my favorite and I can't wait to see where they go with her from here.
worth the wait! Emrakul is too smart for her own good.
Liliana is so badass, I hope her story gets expanded upon in the Kaladesh rotation.
The parallels I found between Yawgmoth and Emrakul at this point are eerie. Speaking of Yawgmoth, seeing as though we might be coming up on an artifact cycle any chance of doing any lore on him and his rival Urza.
wow super exciting. Can't weight to hear more about Liliana's plan. keep up the video's and I hope you are as excited for the new conspiracy as I am.
Love the vid, one of the greatest stories yet! Can't wait to see what's going on in tamigawa.
I honestly did not think the Eldrazi were capable of such introspection.
That's soooo cool. It's almost like emrakul misses her siblings and can't live with out them.
Tamiyo is my favorite planeswalker and Innistrad is my favorite plane. And this story was awesome.
sad thing we will, most likely than not, never know why Emrakul locked herself...
Great video, btw!
i was waiting for the color spectrum to be completed for the gatewatch this awesome
Really mind boggling end. Not really sure what to make of it but props to the story writers, fantastic story teling and vivid living detail from them, just awesome! Still want to know where was Arlin Cord, I was hoping she would take a part in the story since she was a planes walker introduced...
I just found this channel and I love it! Great video, can't wait to check out more
Itd be interesting to see emrakul again. I wonder if wed come back to innistrad for a set or if the gatewatch would visit and find the moon destroyed
Best story yet of anything I have read in MTG lore!
Epic reading of an epic story, thanks Seiben!
