Great reaction and welcome to the BABYMETAL galaxy. 'Gimme Chocolate' is the song people recommend to get a shocked reaction. Sadly it is the only song a lot of people see because they hate it and don't listen to any of the better songs - or songs they would like more at least (and they have about 50).
Every song is different - they have songs in virtually every metal genre and will mix in other musical styles and genres when it suits them - and because they can do whatever they want, they copy nobody but they do pay homage to their heroes.
You were right, they are a fusion of metal with Jpop aesthetics, but they are so much more. Here are a couple more songs - both very different to 'Gimme Chocolate' - that you might want to react to

@@kevinhiggins7838 Haha, fair enough. I won't argue it is brilliant, but it has to grow on a lot of people ... as for 'better' songs that is all down to personal preference. I have Gimme Chocolate in my top 40 (just) which suggests 39 better songs - based entirely on my own preferences.
I have said before, we all agree on a top 50 or so, we just disagree on what order they come in.
@@Grington300 Gimme Choco also isn't my top song, but when I'm at a live show it's better, because so many people know the song and it's good energy.
The wonderful thing about Babymetal is that they are uplifting and make you smile. They are very positive in their music. I hope you continue this journey down the "Foxhole" with Babymetal. You will find a wide variety of song styles besides the shock factor of Gimme Chocolate. Thank you for a good reaction video.

BABYMETAL is a band that really only gets better from this song. It's more pop-like than most of their stuff, and this doesn't accurately represent how amazing they are live, since this video has the studio version of the song over the live performance. As far as the singer, Su-Metal's voice, you seriously haven't heard anything yet. She is amazing live, they are amazing live, and luckily for you, there are tons of live videos out there.
The next natural step is their song "Headbanger" from the same Legend 1997 concert. You'll be totally hooked if you weren't already!

So the veteran fans have already been through and dropped the history and answered questions, so I'll just say a few things and then leave with a recommendation!
So, of you plan on continuing with Babymetal, you're bound to notice their signature hand sign. While very similar to the traditional "devil horns", it's actually a variation where the pads of the middle and ring finger are pressed against the pad of the thumb. This creates the hand gesture of a fox (kitsune) in Japanese culture shadow play. When the producer showed the girls the "horns", they mistook it for the fox sign. Since the Fox God is a big part of their lore, they ran with it!!! Lol
Live is absolutely the way to go with Babymetal. They are a live preformance act, they've called themselves so, and have won many Best Live Act Awards to prove so! However, their MVs are worth a look at since they are brilliantly done and give more insight into the songs! For a reaction channel, I feel its a good idea to check out 2-3 official MVs, and then dive head first into the lives, but this i just my personal view. You could literally pick any song in any order and still be shocked and blown away with each. Reading the comments it seems that Headbangerrr from this same show is the most requested lol.
So, for recommendations, Headbangerrr from the Legend 1997 show (the same show as the one here), or the MV for Megitsune are my picks.

Time has passed and the girls have grown up now but it's still great to look back on the early days of BABY METAL. These days they are a super group with plenty of money for film clips and stage shows so do enjoy their new stuff as well its quite spectacular and fun.

Gimme chocolate is a good Babymetal entry level song, but you should check out Headbanger or road of resistance next.
Headbanger Legend 1997 is the definitive live performance. Gotta remember to specify that so they don't do the MV or Budokan version.

I would recommend checking out Babymetal - Road of Resistance for a second video. By the third song you'll find yourself falling in the foxhole, and in a couple of weeks you'll probably start learning a couple of words in japanese!

We are worldwide, age & ethnically diverse, passionate, knowledgeable & engaged! Su-metal (lead singer), Moametal & Yuimetal (both scream & dance) were 16, 14 & 14 years old in this video (I think). Current ages 22, 21, & 21.
The name BABYMETAL wasn't intended to reflect their age, rather it was to acknowledge that they had given "birth" to a new sub-genre of heavy metal called "kawaii" metal ("kawaii" means cute). The name BABYMETAL is also a bit of a pun in Japan. Japanese spelling:
BABYMETAL: ベビーメタル
HEAVYMETAL: ヘビーメタル
The only difference in the spelling is the "accent" mark over the 1st character in BABYMETAL. Somehow this is clever &/or amusing to our friends in the far east.
BABYMETAL has won 30+ International awards (twice, for Best Live Band), & include winning for artist in "Discovery Of The Year Award" in the GQ Japan Men Of The Year 2015. They were also featured in September and October of 2015 in the GQ Japan Women Special. BABYMETAL was also selected along with other important women of 2015 in Japan as 'Women Of The Year 2015' by VOGUE Japan Magazine. Bear in mind, these girls were barely 17 & 16 years old at the time of these awards.
Additionally, they've been featured on the covers of multiple industry magazines (METAL HAMMER, REVOLVER, KERRANG, ROLLING STONE JAPAN).
This fall BABYMETAL will celebrate their 10th anniversary.

I‘m not sure whether I would call them „shocking“. I prefer „surprising“, because shocking has a bit of a negative touch (perhaps that’s just me, it makes me think of bands that are trying to provoke the listeners / viewers, which I find a very ridiculous motivation).
One of the cool things about BABYMETAL is that they manage to surprise even old fans. The third album gave me a bunch of new WTF moments. You always have to expect the unexpected with them.
J-Pop is not the only genre they are fusing with Metal, there are many other influences as well, and as you said, somehow they make it work. It‘s still a mystery to me after three years of being a fan. They have so many exceptional facets, and they all add up to a very unique phenomenon, more entertaining and uplifting than anything else I have ever seen. It gets even better live!

Let's be honest though, BABYMETAL Death is shocking, in the best way possible way, especially from Legend 1997.
@@papa_xan I think that's a good example for my case. A band that would be going for that (seemingly) Christian imagery in all seriousness to provoke and shock religious viewers is what I would find ridiculous. "BABYMETAL Death", by contrast, is so obviously just playing with the clashing of the cute girls and the crucifixion theme that it's just a very entertaining surprise.

Greatest WTF music video ever. 2020 is the 10th anniversary year for them. Today Su is 22 and Moa is 21. Yui left the band for health reasons in 2018. I'll let you do the math as to their ages at the beginning of Babymetal. They have been performing professionally since they were about 6 yo.

Congratulations! You have explored one song on your three song trial of BABYMETAL. Please know that once you hit song 3, you will be a fan for life and go down the "fox hole" as we fans call it (that will get explained more as you move on into other reactions of them). Others have covered plenty here, including suggested songs of theirs to check out next. I will echo "Headbangeeeeerrrrr!!!!!" from the same concert as this song, which was called the "Legend of 1997" concert, as well as "Megitsune" (pronounced Mey-git-su-nay)...particularly the music video of it. I'll also throw out "Karate" - again, the music video is awesome and will give context of the meaning of the song, but the live version is excellent as well. Also, one of their newest songs called "Pa Pa Ya" featuring F. Hero. It is a live performance but has the studio track as the audio, so you miss out on how good it really is live, but still an excellent song!

Yay! Welcome to the neverending rabbit hole of BABYMETAL :). Pretty much you won't go wrong with any song. I will say they are notorious for blocking reactions for copyright so my recommendation for future reactions is to pause it every so often for about 15 seconds or more. I'm not sure what the thresholds are on the blocking and certain songs get blocked more than others. Here are some of my song suggestions:

J-Pop meets metal. Not really my sort of thing but I did see them at a festival last year and they do put on a good live performance.
yes, they are a very unique Japanese band and I am glad you both liked it. It is weird seeing a full on hardcore metal band with these teen girls singing.
