BRP designed this desert sxs for that use: fast open space baja style conditions. The suspension design works wonder in those conditions and even in KOH. Innovations sometimes looks weird ( front a arm) but people that rode this sxs say it handles like a dream and that suspension makes a huge difference in stability and roll in corners. The engine is very strong and resistant. Guys try to test the smartshox option you will be be blown away.
Now yamaha has to answer with 300hp
It’d be the only reliable one too
Bold new graphics are worth 300hp right?
Unfortunately I don't see that ever happening. Makes me sad that they never upgraded the suspension and engine in 7-8 years
Wish they would both them and Honda
Please yamaha! Please 🙏
😮😮 And I thought I wanted the previous Maverick bad 😍😍 I don't know who said money can't buy happiness but I could see a whole alot of smiles with one if them. One day. 🙏
78 inches wide renders it useless to all but the desert riders...price is also insane.
Yep and those are the people who will buy it. It’s obviously not designed for trails!
Can am just blew polaris away once again right on boys ya did it again thats to much of a sxs for you Dirt trax boys better stick with polaris boys ha ha great video keep them coming thanks guys
50+ THOUSAND DOLLARS US PLUS TAX 🤣🤯 These prices have gotten out of hand for what most of us would consider a "weekend toy" Jesus 😬
'Merkuh
Spend it while you can
These are basically just trophy trucks now
78" wide....yep desert racers!
With damn near scale versions of Trophy Truck price tags! I’ll bet that the top one goes for over 50K.
240 hp. Dang. I don’t think we will have to wait long for a 500 hp side by side.
ONE DAY. Things are getting kinda cray cray.
I was about to make this same comment... beat me to it.
I think those are called dune buggies. 😮
There is a ranger with a hellcat drive train swap on RUclips 750-800hp I believe
@@benblazek3305 it's a cfmoto uforce with the demon 807hp motor in it
One guy already has turbo'd his Polaris pro R to 640 hp..
He must have a toolbox full of belts to carry along to make sure he gets home.
Imagine one day 1000 hp SxS's being the norm ripping around in the masses...
That's maybe to much for many folks.
Can-Am stated during the live reveal that 35” tires will fit.
I thought they would fit but not 37"s. Seems like they could have found a better way for the front suspension though. I like the idea of the 7 speed trans. I hope it is as good as advertised
@@nicholasvaughn2386those tires wouldn't help it like they say it's for high speed desert running that setup is to take a beating and not put to much stress on it at those speeds
@@donaldliverance2597 we all know that people make these things work for whatever terrain they live around. They won't be sold only in desert states.
Don't worry the aftermarket companies will make a new spindle to allow bigger tires I am sure.
@nicholasvaughn2386 silly knowing the other models work better for bigger tires but your right there's a lot of money to waste in the world
If I was a desert dweller I’d definitely get one of these but unfortunately there are no places around here where I can ride these things.
Did you here that most powerful sxs ever built you gotta love Can am
Speed utv is 300hp with a purchase of the “speed” key
When I a teenager my dad bought a 1985 corvette with a 5.7 litre which produced 230 Hp.. 240 Hp in a dune buggy make sure you have your helmet on .
honda has had a single 700 in it sxs for years. it's a good size engine for everything. that new maverick looks like a beast, no belts nice
FYI, the engine in the Maverick R IS NOT the same as the one in all the other models. It is not a bored out 900 ACE. Completely new from the ground up specifically for this vehicle! Thought you should know!
Killing it with the content as always guys! Cheers to our boys in Ontario from Minnesota.
Appreciate it!! 🙏
The unit looks great. I am concerned about that front suspension in the East getting packed full of mud, hit by a big rock following behind someone or whacking the errant tree limb you didn't see. There doesn't appear to be any way to guard that system. I'm also a bit nervous about a 999cc engine that is set to full blast, that thing will get sooooo hot in the South, throw in a muddy front radiator (I know it has two) and some slow trail riding in rocks...sounds like a possible huge trainwreck. It just seems sketchy. I think I would stick with a Pro R...both are great machines, one just seems to be better suited for Eastern US trails and bigger tires. (At 72' wide...haha) These manufacturers REALLY need to make a narrower machine that has all of these beefed up suspension parts and a 150+HP NA motor with a beefy transmission...Not everyone rides in the desert.
When will they add live-valve shocks to a GNCC race atv? The door is wide open for them to be the first to do so.
I love the back and forth between the 2 big companies!!!! I’m bias because I’m a Polaris guy so like the pro r better but wish both of them would make there top tier in a more narrow machine that will fit in New England
Same, we need to open up trails to 72” machines
I had the The RZR Pro and fit fine in NH.
@@zTimmyz0244
Yes nh isn’t bad but me is a no go one of mine is 68 and doesn’t fit in some spots
My 65” x3 almost touches both sides of the gates in Gorham NH.
@@Allinoffroad Now i got bronco and go off roading with that. one day ill get other sxs
Canam please make a Defender that’s trail ready. Upgraded suspension and more power!
In the 16.9 a least every dealership in the world that sale can ams will get all the 4 new mavericks for show and for test drive them
CanAm 💪🏽
Maybe they did the front suspension like that to limit your tire size to help out the transmission
potentially, it also reduces the forces through the suspension arms, they can also tune their alignments better (caster, inclination etcetera), similar to a road car with double arm suspension
@tturi2 of coarse it is but they had to know it would limit tire size. I firmly believe it's to limit tire size to help lower transmission warranty claims.
The jury still out with me, but I don’t see what’s so impressive about 240 hp. You can do that with the 900 easily and reliably.
I always say competition is good in the power sports industry!!! Canam showed their hand now we wait and see Polaris’s response!!! Awesome times we’re living in! Expensive, but awesome! Polaris will have that 4 cylinder pumping out 275HP in no time!
Well said!! 👊🏻💥🎉
Evo already has it at 330 on 93 400 on 110 🤣🤣. Polaris still the king
@@jelias999Well there ya go. There’s obviously lots of room for an HP increase with that mill!!! 400 HP would be insane!!
@@jelias999go look at sxs blogs video still get beat by two x3s
They'll have duel turbos on it. They'll be getting tips from Rolls Royce and Pratt and Whitney next.
i think the 700 in the other sxs's is a great thing, prices are getting way to crazy and most people dont need insane power to trail ride.
as for the new x3... personally i hate it. i think iit will be good at what its made to do but not good at anything else. where the big rzrs can sort of be set up to do it all right now
Rzr pro r best sounding side by side right now.
To me, it seems like a risky move to stress out a 1L engine like that. Especially considering that Polaris could probably bump the hp on that 2L up to more than 240 with just an updated tune. Also, not too sure about those crazy suspension knuckles. Seems like an expensive fix waiting to happen right there. Limited tire upgrades looks to be a thing as well, as you've stated. Lastly, lack of engine/chassis options is a - in my book.
Anyway, thanks for the great coverage as always. Cheers.
Way more reciprocal mass in a 2L, plus, 240hp out of a small motor with forced induction is chump change. Kawasaki have done it with the H2 for years, and the H2R is 300hp reliably, and they use less efficient supercharging.
@@BigCarKilla Sure, but those engines, much like some small displacement, forced induction, car engines, were designed to handle that type of power from their inception. This is an existing engine that was likely not originally designed to create this kind of power.
Good thing you’re not a BRP engineer then
@@Captndarty Oh yeah? Lol And, do you have an actual argument against mine, or are you just going to strictly stick with irrelevant biased opinions that make you feel better about someone not liking something about your favorite brand of toy?
@@Ted_StrykerPretty sure he won’t be able to back up his argument hahaha. You can’t tell me a 999cc triple isn’t working overtime to produce 240 HP when you can have a 2 liter 4 cylinder pump nearly the same without any boost. Also, there’s a lot more room to increase the output of that 4 cylinder. You make a good point!
Wonder if that 10in screen will have built-in nav. Seen it has a backup camera
When Yamaha released the Dual Clutch in the YXZ, I knew that was probably going to be the way forward. Just seems like such an obvious choice to go with, especially when compared to a belt. As far as the engine goes, I do wonder why they didn't bump the displacement up? ECU's are so sophisticated these days it's not a huge concern, I'd just be more interested in why they stuck with only 1,000cc.
Because of laws actually. Anything over 1000cc is classified as a different class of vehicle with a completely different set of registration, insurance and other things.
I have a feeling Can-Am was far to deep in the development of this unit when Polaris dropped the Pro R and it’s 2.0L. Minor numbers are a step above but Polaris is sitting back waiting, now can easily tune to 250hp+ N/A and well over 300hp on pump gas with turbo. Time will tell. Pro RX coming??
You know it! That 4 cylinder has WAY more to unleash…. That’s why I don’t understand Canam only having a 999 triple stretched to 240HP. Polaris has an engine they can get 350HP out of if they really want to. We’ll see what happens!!!
@@pajamatime5750 I remember vaguely it has to do with licensing? Something about going above 999ccs throws it into a different category if you’re trying to register it in some sort of way in many states. Here in Montana, as long as it has wheels, headlights, brake lights, and a horn, that’s all you need.
@@pajamatime5750it's for race classes, Can Am would still be able to compete in the sub 1000 cc, Polaris can't.
People I know would roll and flip their SXS and then crazy arms will break for sure.
Has for HP the places that I ride at you can't even use half of that much HP and the SXS I have been riding with drive slow has crap.
Neat looking machine but that knuckle design is going to piss off a lot of people. I’d be interested to know if the knuckle is wider than the tire because bouncing one of those off a tree would be a very expensive stake me thinks.
I agree. They may serve a purpose but they look ridiculous in my opinion….
Curb Feelers
It is not to the size of the rim, it does not stand out, work there
I'm a car guy, not a side by side guy... Why is this knuckle design "weird" or controversial? Cars have had knuckles like this for a very long time.
@@GroovesAndLands Trucks have, but those knuckles are no where near as exaggerated as what's seen here. I know why they did it, to keep the roll center low, and to alleviate/eliminate bump steer. Cars, especially those of the performance variety operate off a double wishbone usually.
It's controversial because owners generally like to run tire sizes 2-3" larger than stock depending on usage. People running 33's,-35's on X3's is very very common. That won't be possible here, without a drastic redesign of the knuckle.
Did you just say they cut power to the third cylinder?? Great... Yeah... I'm sure the reliability on that one is fantastic
Yeah fck that 😬😬
Can-Am said during the reveal that the R will fit 35's.
I love innovation, but having this much new unproven(in sxs) technology will certainly have some major recalls. I think I’ll wait a couple of years until they work the bugs out.
I do not like that front look. To me they made it look softer and alittle goofy.
Beast
Better way of describing the DCT is it is essentially two transmissions in one: a clutch for 1,3,5,7 and a clutch for 2,3,6 (presumably) and the general idea is as it disengages one gear it is already engaging the next so its essentially continuous power. There is a reason major auto manufacturers are using these for performance applications (see: Porsche, VW, others). With that said: torque converter automatics aren't far behind.
I assume you meant the odd gears on one clutch and the even gears on the other... While the odd clutch is engaged and driving an odd gear, the even clutch is disengaged and thus the input shaft for the even gears is NOT spinning. That means the next even gear can be pre-selected, and what the driver would normally call a "gear change" is simply the odd clutch disengaging while the even clutch engages....the ACTUAL gear change has already occurred.
Dam 8500 rpm for a turbo engine is alot. Atleast from what I'm ise to seeing and hearing about
Does the yamaha viking still exist? 700Cc 3/6 seat with full size dump box

Yamaha has to bring a YXZ sidewinder n/a and a turbo!
At only 240hp per litre, I'm sure this engine will basically be bulletproof. No chance of the intercooler getting dirty or muddy and intake air temps going through the roof and causing detonation.
Just with all the bends in the new control arms, I wonder how much abuse they will take before a bend occurs. But It does seem very neat looking!
Need that engine in a ski doo now
I really wonder about that bolt at the top of the shock arm. It’s going to be taking a beating. Wonder how well it will hold up?
AJ, let us know if that arm is cast or machined would you?
it will take way way less stress... the point of this new suspension is remove stress from jointed areas. this is an unbelievably more durable machine than previously.
@@adampetten1009 good to know. I can't wait to get a better look at it some time.
@@williemaykit7940 In the video, you can clearly see the upper control arm is comprised of several sections of formed/extruded aluminum welded together. The upper balljoint housing is a casting, welded to the tip of the control arm. The knuckle/upright itself is forged aluminum.

It's easy to buy, Harder to sell.
SxS's have came a long way since Big Red and Rhino
Why polaris will always be #1 in leading the industry
Polaris leads the SXS industry in issuing stop ride notices to owners & recalls on their products.
i was a little surprised they never used the 1330 or 1630 Ace motors, the new supercharged 1600 is 325hp with warranty, but people need to remember Canam is gunning at continuing to win races. the 2L pro r can only run in unlimited class (in major races, small local can probably do whatever) the X3 still beat the pro r... no one is using them, R2V had only 1 ProR. this rig being 1L will be a premier race machine. As usual poo is still trying to catch up.
Why does this thing look like the Delorean from the movie Back to the Future?
The Delorean was way better looking. lol
Looking forward to the full hand-on review 👍🏻
Beautiful piston! 03:34
These manufacturers spend so much time and money developing these amazing things and the people who buy them just do donuts in their back yard or take it up some hill climb.
Yeah, that’s all people do with them. Circles in the back yard…. 🙄
Sub 1 liter 240HP, 8500 RPM means that small TURBO motor will definitly wear out early. No way around basic physics. They use similiar motors in snowmobiles. Non-turbo, more cylinders, strong cranks equal more long term reliability.

amazing the amount of performance you can achieve when you ditch the lousy CVT system...
I a fan of the vtwin can am have a xt 800 with 15000 miles on it tires and belts thats it oil and air filters.
I heard Segway is gonna answer with 300 hp. Don’t ask me how I know 😏
The problem with cramming all that horsepower into a little 1000cc engine is reliability/longevity issues. It's been proven time and time and time again, that the higher the HP to CC ratio = DRASTICALLY shortened engine life, especially when it comes to engines under 2 liters in displacement ..........
1/2 liter would be 120 hp. It's been more than twenty years since I read about an engineering student in Graz putting a turbo on a 650 single.
The smaller motors in the full size machines will be interesting & probably a let down after purchase.
So is this replacing the x3? Or will you still be able to buy the 200hp version?
This is a wide open dunes and deserts, west coast riding machine, there are still 64 X3's with 200hp for the rest of us. The East Coast still exists and they know it.
I think the X3 is still going to be in production in 2024 and beyond. It’s just not the halo top tear model anymore.
Dang, Can-AM you blew it....I love the DCT and engine questionable improvements, but it ends right there.
who cares about a fancy display and graphs if you can't even have 35's on it?... and the price tag of $43k on the XRS, nah, I will keep my XRC RR and put up with the stupid rubber band and clutch system. Until CAN AM makes a proper machine, I will enjoy what I already have. We don't a cute vehicle, we want a real versatile customizable off-road machine!... and please stop using rivets before welding the parts!
I'm pretty sure they rivet the parts on so the welders & assemblers down there in Mexico don't forget them. They have a hard enough time as it is tightening nuts or fitting washers where they should be.
5:22 you can fit 35s just fine, can am gave it enough gap to do so
compare it 0-60 against 72" x3 smartshox and Pro R 🔥
Clearly old mate isn’t a car guy. That horsepower isn’t at a high RPM for a 1L, that power output isn’t all that high (less efficient supercharged H2 for example), cylinder deactivation, and the DSG gearbox are all standard automotive fare. Old car tech that’s made it’s way across to SxS isn’t wizardry…
It’s still new to the sxs world!
Everyone knows how craptastic GM's Active Fuel Management is in their LS2 L77 engines. Never buy first generation technology in anything, particularly side by sides. You only have to look at Polaris RZR's & Can Am Maverick X3's and see how many changes they make between years to know they never get it right the first time.
Polaris is going to make one with 300 horsepower but it's just going to break

They will sell zero machines here in Australia at that price point with the exchange rate as it is. $0.64 A.U.D = $1.00 U.S.D) Even at $62,000 A.U.D it would be an impossible task. You can buy a very nice road registered V8 turbo diesel Toyota Landcruiser for $100,000 A.U.D.
