Philippines was the hongkong, or the singapore before wwii.. the progress of the philippines was typical for most countries that just received their independence. until the late 60s before Marcos, we were the leader in Asia with agriculture, films (asias hollywood) and economy. The Philippines and the Filipino people is just but a few of the countries in the whole that is so accepting and welcoming to help and assist others even if it is not considered rich like others...among the Countries Philippines have accepted as a place to live during their escape from persecutions are: Russians, Vietnamese, Chinese, Israel/Jews, they assisted South Koreans, even Spanish who stayed in the Philippines and Japanese after the war, including Americans, Irish soldiers who stayed and married in the Philippines, British and many others that most people don't know about. Even today there are so many other Nationalities who married Filipinos, Italians, Germans, Nigerians, Eastern Europeans and Middle Easter countries....so many to mention that is why It is one country that I could mention who can adapt easy to other cultures of the world. One more reason Filipinos are welcome all over the world. God Bless....

Lending a helping hand, hospitality it’s in Filipino culture. What’s more endearing, in my opinion is our sense of forgiveness. I saw an NHK documentary how the late president Elpidio Quirino, putting his personal feelings on one side granted pardon to Japanese war criminals despite him witnessing the death of his wife and three children at the hands of Japanese soldiers.
It was a decision that was very difficult for him as an individual. Can you imagine? How does one get over, or how does one forgive such a personal tragedy? In a 1953 speech he said:“I have my remaining children, and their children to follow. I am not going to allow them to inherit feelings of revenge,”

this video crossed my feed. as a grade school student in the 1970s, we sang Hava Nagilah in school camping activities, girl scout bonfire activities. we even sang it in catholic church after mass! then after 40years, I learned , only then, that there was/were Jewish settlement in the Phils. So, it is a discovery that that was how this song became known in school those days! of course, this song was no longer sung in the late 80s, esp with the advent of cable esp MTV in the 90s. surprising how i see now that a lot of foreigh bloggers have featured it since a few years ago.

Tubabao Odyssey: Refuge in the Philippines
Another Great Story/Documentary to Watch. It's about 6,000 White Russian saved by the Philippines.
Yes, Filipinos are very welcoming, friendly, helpful, and accepting people. Simply the best!

Wow I’m Filipina but I know so little about this, i can’t even recall this in history subjects when I was at school, or i might have been asleep during the time it was being taught 😊. Truly amazing though, now I’d like to know more. Its a fact that we Filipinos are always ready to lend a helping hand at any given time, no matter their situations in life if you visit a Filipino household and stay for the night as guest even if they are poor they will always give you the best things they have, they will give their own bed to make you feel welcome and make you feel comfortable, even if it means the family will have to sleep on the floor, that’s just how Filipinos we are, friendly, kind and hospitable .😊
Thanks for this video Lucy & George.😍

This was taught in our class. I like history so I remembered. The only problem was that the teacher half-heartedly told us the story, but watching this feels so heartwarming yet heartbreaking

Today, after many years it’s funny to hear that Spain discovered the Philippines. I had an old Spanish friend who told me exactly that and to her surprise when I told her; “ It couldn’t be that because the Filipinos were already there long before the Spaniards arrived ”. It’s true, discovering it from the Eurpean point of view but not from the natives who were already there.
