    I've just completed the replacement and want to thank you for that guide. It was very useful. Especially thanks for noting the screws lengths - this was super helpful!
    A few things I would add here for those who are completing this task:
    1) Pull Tabs can really break off. Be careful with those and if you break those - use a credit card or a similar object to life the old battery. Honestly, that was the only way I was able to remove the battery.
    2) Do some screws management and have a nice area to work on. It took me some time to actually screw those back in place.
    3) Power on your phone after you connect all the cable and before you re-assemble. Just make sure that it powers on. That power cable takes some time to plug into and any minor movement disconnects it. That's why we need to make sure that phone powers on.
    4) Check that camera works, button, operate etc after you turned it on.
    5) If all good - assemble. You phone is back to being a brand new. iPhone 8 in 2021? No problem!

    I really appreciated the straight forward detailed instructions. I was no where near as smooth as you, though I doubt this was your first time. I launched one of the screws across the table during reassembling and was blessed when my wife actually found it. In the end the phone is up and working so thank you very much

    Excellent video :) Just want to add that using a hair dryer to warm the back will help soften the adhesive to get that battery out. Someone else mentioned to check everything before putting it back together. I had a problem with the battery cable connection, it looked good but wasn't. When I turned the phone the battery was reading 65% and quickly dropped to 27%. After unplugging and replugging the battery connection, it's working like a charm! Thanks again!

    This is an easy job other than removing the old battery. Had to carefully pry it out. Entire job takes about 30 mins. Screws are small so be careful and watch the different length screws, as noted in this video. Since you may damage the old battery removing it, I recommend running the phone until it’s discharged before starting.

    Phone came apart with no trouble. Had trouble with tearing of the strips on battery but was able to pull battery loose with no problem. It went together easily except for water proof strips that came with battery kit didn't stick well. Phone works great again! Video was very helpful.

      Those waterproof strips are *really* hard to get to work. You can skip the waterproofing - phone of course still works, but you gotta be more careful after that and avoid water.

    Excellent Video. Nice and slow with lots of useful commentary. I would, as pointed out by another video, connect the battery cable before positioning the battery because there is a bit of slack and once pressed into place with glue strips it is very difficult (or impossible) to move. Also, there is no resealing the top to make it waterproof - fine with me because I don't plan to go swimming with my phone. Great VIDEO Thanks !

  • @basedCoding
    @basedCoding 4 года назад +20

    One comment a would like to make regarding this is it seems the lcd connector can be reseated wrong, reseated it about 10 times and still no picture, thought for sure i had damaged the flex cables even though i was super careful, turns out though that you should try to reseat it as far to the left as possible.

    Just a bit of advice. Remove the battery connection first. That will keep you from doing any unintentional arc welding.

    • @martynh5410
      @martynh5410 3 года назад +4

      Also, it will be good practice (just before doing the replacement) to run the phone until the battery is at 0% charge and shuts itself off. That way, any inadvertent shirt won’t blow the battery, or wiring up.

    • @dibjr
      @dibjr 3 года назад +3

      And one other tip from my recent replacement: connect the new battery before you set the adhesive, as the connection cable is quite rigid and if the battery is seated a little off, it is difficult to mate the connector. I screwed up the connector so the control signal didn't connect. I got no charging or battery status indicator on the phone. I created a paper weight for myself.

    • @martynh5410

      @@martynh5410 One of my other issues is I'm 79 and have cataracts, so my vision isn't that great. I use really bright LED lighting and can handle laptop scale connectors just fine, but phone stuff is just too small! Hopefully, I'll be able to get surgery soon and be good for another 15 years. ;)

    • @martynh5410
      @martynh5410 3 года назад +3

      @@dibjr Well my eyes aren’t the greatest but I was able to do this. I’m 67 and I have had two detached retina surgeries in my left eye and cataracts removed from both eyes. I did it okay but the three connectors are pretty small. The tiny screws are really tiny! It does help that the small screwdriver was magnetic enough that it held the screws for me while I aimed for the holes. You will need to do this on table where the screws can be found if you drop any.

    Can you just take off the cover over the battery connection and leave the top part connected?
    It would seem like much less work.
    I used this fix and it worked perfectly but even though in settings it says battery 100% it doesn’t seem to last any longer than the 80% battery I replaced. I ordered a new battery from a different company and will return the current one so I’m just trying to save some steps.
    I’m saying just the cover LCD CONNECTOR, digitizer, then switch out the battery.
    Thanks
