If you grew up photographing your family it already gives you that foundation for intimate portraiture in many ways. That photo of the older couple clasping hands is really beautiful! The tree and the matching color of the flower on her really makes the photo work. The other photo of the circle of women holding hands also works very well, the background is perfect 🙌👏It must be easier to love your family from afar. There's an old English expression a poet once wrote, "Familiarity breeds contempt". Sad but true. I would love to hear about your book project. Congratulations!! I wish I could photograph my family but they do not like their photos being taken at all. Ive been trying to photograph my grandmother more and more now that she's on her deathbed, shes not a big fan of the camera but sometimes she doesnt mind when were in the middle of a conversation 😪. I was walking one day and I saw my Mom and I shot a few candid photos of her while she was waiting for the bus. She deleted them from her phone when i sent them because she hates the way she looks but i think she looks beautiful in it. Your journey in life becomes your photographic journey in so many ways. I always wonder what the reason was behind choosing their particular subject matter that they choose to share with their audience. Sometimes people dont want to share personal work but its definitely working for you. I know some guy who's signature style is taking flash close-up portraits of people eating lol. Thats definitely not my thing. I think my ability to start and maintain conversation and be relatable and actively listen to strangers is a gift that has laid a strong foundation for my photography in general.
