What is the blue material on top of the table saw? Im new to woodworking
when you spend so much time on the box and do such a good job it is strange that others are not of the same quality.
I loved it!!
@@ford1546 Well, not at Walmart prices. It really depends on which brand you might choose. For years there was a speaker sales, repair and component warehouse near my home. I loved to go there and pick out well-made cabinets and some or all of the speakers, grill cloths and other components. I could take a look and listen to their finished speakers that were build of the same cabinets and available speakers simply to aid my decisions. I wound up giving several speaker pairs to my friend and family. Sadly, like so many American specialty businesses, they folded when I wasn't looking.
Plz tell the woofer or tweeters connection details
Nice work. Love the paint job!
A favorite creator commenting on a favorite creator.
Thanks!
@@JohnHeisz What type of paint did you use?
Good polish!
Turned out great... great work with the editing of the video as well.
That speaker sounds exactly like my cellphone speaker! 😉 Great job👍🍻
Mine had a lot of base with this speaker
lol
strange, it sounds just like logitech speakers here!
What kind of magic is this?
Wrong, that speakers sounds exactly like MY speakers
Manuel B. Captain obvious
Thank you for using polyurethane construction adhesive right at the end. I thought this might be an imposter John, up until then.
Ditto
Why the preference to polyurethane as opposed to tite bond or...?
@@kenwhitney9146 It's an inside joke.
i was grabbing construction adhesives at random from the home depot until finally I found one (liquid nails I think) that is the same color as john's, and it seemed to work the best.
then again they're all pretty sticky 😅
What I find most impressive is he still has all 10 fingers. Might I recommend a push stick? You are clearly capable enough to make one.
I hate to be the safety police guy but that set up and his feed discipline just give me the heebie jeebies, after witnessing a guy lose four fingers on his hand and a discharge from the army, no riving knife, push stick, wood surface -- no way.
He DOES have a push stick. IDK why he's not using it here.
@@spdcrzy Because he has 10 fingers
The routing on the pipe makes it look sick!
Lovely job, John. I admire your patience and attention to detail.
Thank you!
Watching you build and how you over come some of the mistakes, or problems is always great to watch. I learn so much.
Thank you for sharing 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
I like the fact that you don't use dado blades as your table saw won't allow it. Here, in India we don't even get dado blades. Also hertening to see that one still makes mistakes after years of woodworking. Thanks for showing them. You could have easily hidden them. Showing them gives more confidence and enthusiasm to those who are starters. I learnt that one can paint over a PU coat.
So do you do carpentry? Nice to know that!
@@Amit-sp4qm Yes Amit I have been doing carpentry for the last three years.
@@NEEVAnurag wow, where are you based in india? Hobby or professionally?
@@Amit-sp4qm I am from Jamshedpur. I work professionally for building my own stuff. Hope to sell in future but not in a commercial way, only as a Craftsman who does not want to dilute his standards of craftsmanship.
@@NEEVAnurag nice .. I am from NCR .. would be great to connect ..
Another great build John thanks so much for sharing it with us!
That painting and finishing looked incredibly satisfying.
Also, really, REALLY like the look of the grills you ended up with!
First thing to play own the speaker, Pink Floyd.
We don't need no ventilation.
We don't need no dust control.
we don't need no sound port
Hey! @evilution, leave John Heisz alone!
Great video, i like how you make mistakes and show them on video...makes this video feel genuine and while i am no where near a craftsman like your self, it gives me confidence to try it my self.
I would love to see a sub to accompany it.
Damn that ceiling camera setup is crazy!! The mic, the stand, the light! It's awsome
He has a couple videos on it
You'll drive nails into your table saw top but not your mini sled for a stop block :P
I drive nails when I need to drive nails, not to drive nails because the wannabes think I should.
Ya wannabe, ya.
Your hand positioning when using the table saw makes my spine tingle.
I was thinking the same thing the whole time
I wasn't thinking the same thing the whole time
I just realised how much camera work and editing goes into these videos, thanks for this amazing video john, you're amazing!
blew my mind in one of his videos where he showed that all the POV shots are made using a camera mounted on a mouth grip he made, and he can't see very well while using the rig LOL
Those 'grills' you made to cover the speakers would 100% effect the sound, I'd ditch them, especially as the speakers look so nice exposed the way to inlayed them.
Right! they would come alive with vibration . Apropos rien, the last bass speaker
(tube) I built had a 100mm speaker weighing in at .75 Kg , these look tiddly.
Yeah, or make more basic grills that are just light speaker grille cloth. Those wood ones look cool but there is no way they are not blocking sound. I do like how the grille holders are hidden magnets so you don't see the ugly rubber plugs when its removed.
Its funny that wood glue is yellow in the US. Here in europe its snow white. I wonder if the recipes are any different or it being just an esthetic thing developed over decades.
Who else got remembering cowboy bebop whit the last song? I can’t be the only one.. 😅😍
Bro that's Sasuke's Theme Song
And turmoil
Remember Breaking Bad
Hey dude...i been keeping an eye out for you since you did the scale pyramid build. You are a proper craftsman and the speaker in vid looks amazing. Most wouldn't realise how much time and work is involved. Really well explained, the editing, sound levels (which most uploaders get badly wrong) and general production is of a high order. Respect, peace.
The grilles look nice, but they're not acoustically transparent. They will color and/or distort the sound. Also, you need an actual crossover to get the best sound from the speakers.
He used a first order crossover. High pass on the tweeter, low pass on the woofer. How did you miss it?
Very informative article and nice build video. You got to love mdf, nasty to work with but very stable and forgiving material and cheap.
One question , are you gonna use the soundbar mainly for the tv or will you use it also for just playing music ?
Also congrats on your clean and beautiful shop .👌👍
I could help but think, if it was Bose, it would just have two 2.5" drivers, be all plastic and cost $1,000.
Bose engineering seems to be pretty sound as Pete alludes to - ruclips.net/video/CZaRQT3Rvaw/видео.html
My only complaint is the application of that engineering through the use of dirt cheap drivers. However, at least they don't buy a few mid to low-end drivers that anyone can buy from the likes of parts-express or madisound, and charge you tens if not hundreds of thousands, for what is very basic design!
I thought you were going to leave the grills their natural color that would have looked great on the black but may not have matched the rest of the room or something. I’ve been loving your speaker builds 👍🏼
The grids make it look like something from the 70s
I really enjoy your videos! You are so knowledgeable and talented. Thank You for sharing.
Great video ,I love the detractors -you never see their projects .I am a boat builder and I am sure that this project would satisfy 99% of people .
How much price of sound baar I like it job very nice

The wood grill is blocking some sound its worth the trouble to make a grill clothe one
The grills look nice but they block about 50% of the sound, especially for the tweeter. Not good. You should have stained them. The wood would look good with the black body.
Sry but i just like those audio tests. Audio from the speakers, throug my garage, to my mic, to youtube compression, to your tablet puny speakers. Its like, i made you cake here taste that polaroid of it. XD
Your patience when it comes to sanding and applying finish is t be commended. Great work Mr. Heisz.
Thanks Kip :)
The difference between a new and a skilled woodworker, is how well you can fix your mistakes. 😎
Don't feel bad, John. I have the same router and have suffered "the curse of the flat spot" on more than one occasion. LONG LIVE BONDO!
not bad, just to much
acoustic wool!
The half would be the perfect amount...
I must admit, my though after watching this was to take the soundbar I'd purchased at Goodwill, which has lousy speakers, remove all the electronics from it, use the instructions here to build a new housing and install decent speakers, and install the commercial soundbar's electronics. This would provide Bluetooth, etc., at the same time as improving the audio quality.
We'll just have to see if I actually do this down the line...
That flat spot on the Makita router base is really annoying. I've been caught out by it causing overcutting more than once before.
The final product being beautiful would be an understatement. I have never seen a soundbar that looks so good. What a keen sense of aesthetics! I loved the curved borders, though you showed little of how you got it done.
Keep us impressed.
P. S: What were the speakers you used (brand, wattage, type etc.)?
Those are Dayton Audio woofers and either Dayton or maybe Hivi tweeters.
Looks and sounds great!
Thanks!
Great job! Everything was Very well Done!👏👏
Rounding over the inside of the ports was a really nice touch!
Thanks :)
How will you sale it for I will pay it.
Brilliant vid👍 I built my own surround sound system but used plywood as I liked the grain varnish finish. MDF is a fav o mine BUT have to wear a mask/gloves when handling / cutting that as the dust particles are really dodgy - cancer? I used a router to cut decorative SLOTS not circular cut outs. Like yours I also rounded off the corners = I also added bluetooth setup as electronics is easy for me. I used COPPER quality cables and sockets. Cables from the main surround amp are kept OFF the ground as CAPACITANCE can occur causing signal/sound issues.
I'm sorry, but.
Firstly, MDF is too thin.
secondly, the "cherry on the cake" is glass wool in the subwoofer, this is something unimaginable.
you have to understand that with every hit of the bass drum you are getting a dose of glass wool from your speaker into the room.
Replacing it with foam rubber, or with ordinary cotton wool in gauze.
In general - excellent. everything you do is very interesting. Thanks.
John Heisz - I Build It You are a Great person with Amazing Talent You Rock thanks for creating this Channel with its Great Content.....Keep up the Great work You Do....A+A+A+A+A+
I skipped through your video to find the electronics as most sound bars are powered and have optical input/etc, turns out your just building a speaker in the form of a bar that needs a stereo amp. A bit of disappointment there, great woodworking craftsmanship though. The final hanging project under the slim tv makes it look like a Mac truck bumper, thanks for sharing.
Guitar song @ 17:51 PLZ!!!
also screw haters, he fine, yes he should PROBABLY get a push stick, but that is HIS DECISION.
Hi John, mi name is Marcelo and live in Buenos Aires - Argentina, great job! one question please, what type or kind (sorry my english) of loudspearkers use? brand, power, impedance, thanks in advance for your comments. Marcelo
Honestly ........so how’s that cordless router???? I’m still debating the purchase....there’s gotta be some cons besides the weight…please be truthful so that I may possibly spend money I don’t have on something I don’t really need
It's quite disappointing to see such lousy electrical inside such a beautiful piece of equipment
Yeah Indeed..
What exactly do you recommend ? Be constructive with your criticism
Olá boa noite tenho um projeto de suporte de caixas de som poderia fazer um video dele? mandaria o projeto pra voce
Reformulated question: Would it be possible to add a mini tweeter to a 2.0-channel soundbar via serial connection, turning it into a 3.0 channel soundbar to get a better sound clarity (clear and crisp dialogues)?
I like this kind of "diy for the home" project - very relatable to me. Thanks for sharing it.
My nose did twitch a bit watching all that MDF dust fly from the table saw towards your maskless face.
I am sorry about my French, John, but You are a Fucking Genius!!! Respect Like and Subscribe! I am jealous!
Such a great build and great video; specially the grills look killing! But what a rape of the design to use hotglue and mount the filters ''in the air'' like this. I know it would not harm the overall functionality and sound. For me, the inside has to be the same quality standard as the outside, but that doesn't go for everybody.
Great build! HOWEVER, please stop using hot glue to secure electrical components. I see this all over YT and it is disturbing..
I like your workshop
your workshop is very clean.
it lacks soul, just saying.
Want to know how to ruin any professional credibility when it comes to electronics? Use fucking hot glue to mouny components and to seal around speaker wires. You lost so much credibility with soldering, but it killed any ideal that you have any skill but carpentry when you used hot glue for the components.
Since the cabinet is small and only the low frequency drivers making use of this cabinet, what's value of splitting this cabinet in two ? Since the low frequency drivers do not contribute to any stereo depth perception, it seems more logical to me, to use the full enclosure for low frequency resonance in stead of two halves.

thanks for sharing john, great sound coming thru my laptop speakers
Yes, really nice with headphones, too.
Although not strictly relevant to speaker cabinet building, I would enjoy a video on spraying finish. My experience was years ago and I found it wasn’t worth the trouble. Recently I’ve seen you spraying
in several videos and wonder if it’s worth my taking a second look. I the past, decades ago, paints and clear finishes were a pain to clean up and they were high in voc’s making them very hazardous to breathe....
I enjoy your videos, thank you.
Great Video, I enjoyed every minute of it, A true carpenter. I bet It Looks and sounds great in your living room...
I also hate working with MDF. You had way less dust than I typically do. For the table saw I am guessing it is the really thin kerf blade, and I will remember than next time I cut it, but how did you end up with such a clean shop using the router on it? I didn’t see any dust hose on the router. Was that all due to your air cleaner?
After all of that great work that you did, you should have shown us multiple angles of the finished product. I really wanted to see more :-(
I applaud the effort but I don't like the execution. Fiberglass blocked the air movement.
One of the smarter ideas a buddy of mine did for his table and his radial arm saw was to put a deadman style foot switch on both of them. To run either saw you have to turn a power switch on to supply power to the deadman style foot switch. He installed that switch setup after one of his young boys turned the circular saw on and then climbed up on the feed table so he “could cut some wood” like his dad, fortunately no one was injured.
But he doesn’t have a picture with the new grills.
The build article has some great pics of the finished product!
whats the name of the first song that starts at 17:25, know the song but name dosent come to mind
J S Bach "Air on a G String"
This is not DIY video... No one can have this types of tools at home... Better to contact a skilled carpenter... But I must say, the outcome was awesome.
neat
making a high quality speaker takes much much more than sticking a high quality driver in a box with some damping
You should make a replacement base for your router that’s concentric with the bit. Oh, nice build too!
Why did you use fiberglass and not Polyfill which would not irritate your lungs if it got into the air. But the speaker looks great!
wow unbelievable! You have a gift. And you make everything look so easy!
What's powering your sound bar? Wattage etc... great vid though
hi john i want to ask u how good is this bosch sander how heavy is it if u sand round corners like burn marks from router i have to sand this 2 h a day can u give me some advice :D and if u mybe know what solid wood is best for speaker box
A single series capacitor for the Tweeter as a high pass filter only gets you 6db per octave. The same thing applies to the woofer, a single series inductor also only gives you 6 DB per octave roll off. That's not very steep
Looks like a fun project. If you mentioned the electronics parts and supplier I did not catch it. Thanks
It is satisfying to watch all that works with the tools, but as for the speakers and sound not impressed, would love to put a couple of speakers and subs
I swear, I could actually smell that MDF powder clogging up my sinuses. Made me want to sneeze.
That's not the MDF you are smelling, it's the cancer.
It looks the mutts nuts John. Great job.
Well, that phrase is about to work its way into my lexicon
@Barry...."the Mutts nuts" - I laughed so hard.....gotta luv that one and ditto with @Cameron Barrett's response....it's now in my lexicon too! Cheers!
It’s a phrase we use here in England, similar to the “dogs danglers”, or a ruder version is the “dogs bollocks”. All mean the same thing.😀
Nice build
I wonder if the grill is really transparent to sound, I'd be affrais of some nasty effect
Superb Works Sir, you have highly sophisticated tools. Wish to assist you if get a chance.
That is some shitty music you listen to there John....... No No that is just my used Abs pipe I used for the ports. ;-)
Boa noite qual é a potência dos alto falantes e drivers
wonderful craft, but the loudspeaker with a FS of 72 Hz is really not fitted for this box, I'm afraid that the bass are completely killed.
Pensé que las tapas de los parlantes quedarían color natural...todo negro...igual se ve bien pero no destaca.
Just saw you put insulation that goes into a wall in there 😧 If you use the padding from an old pillow it will sound better.
Está bien, pero demasiado trabajo tio. Prefiero comprarlo hecho.
Parece extractor de cocina todo está bien hasta que le puso la rejilla de Madera aún así saludos suerte y que bueno que transmitas tus conocimientos te en altece tu persona como ser humano grasias
Only a lowlife like me watch these kind of videos... with all those money you spend on tools can get you the best quality sound bar..
What kind of paint did you use for the black? Thanks for your videos!!
Here's an idea.
You say your router's base isn't round so why not make a round base for it?
Or would that not work?
hey speaker leave the tweet alone.
