I still get them 😭. But I've been practicing compartmelizing moments because if I worry about what's gonna come , is take away what's happening now. But I know it's easier said than done.
Was soooooo refreshing to bump into someone who shares the same sentiments of how the corporate field can be toxic to one. It ended up even affecting my health state....I resigned last year July and l choose my peace over security and didn't make sense to resign while people are loosing they jobs but l knew I would be okay from my savings....I've never been happier and it opened doors after I never imagined I could...so yes thanks for being so open babes....and l do encourage every young person SAVINGS are EVERYTHING guys
😂 thanks ! Don’t worry , I edited out all the parts where I was crying 💀. So it’s predominantly positive. I also waited a while before filming this so that I wasn’t too emotional and I was coming from a more optimistic perspective.
By the way I love how you speak! i resigned from my job in 2017 and moved abroad to study for two years, came back just before the pandemic and was unemployed for over a year but now that I'm working i realise how much of a blessing that year with my family was... earning money is great but it comes at such a cost, you're so brave for making such healthy decisions when we're encouraged by society to benchmark our lives based on what others are doing...
I'm a recent graduate ,started in my workplace last year July as an intern. I 100% agree with you on everything, especially about hierarchy I've been really thinking about quitting and go back to school to do my advance diploma ,but I still can't runaway from the fact that I've learnt a lot here. And work in my industry is very scarce, I really want to quit with all my heart even though I love what I'm doing,my mental health is taking a knock. Mentally I'm long gone 😪 ,I'm really struggling, to make matters worse I'm not paid fairly 😪
I did the same thing as well 2020 I quit my job as Junior QS at a company that most graduates would wanna work at bcoz it's big but I wasn't happy at all always worried , I have been home since that but I do believe I did the right thing for me and I'm also thinking of switching careers I'm realizing the other side of my self, everyone thinks I'm crazy but I know things will work out eventually 💯 Thanks for sharing ❤️
I love this for you. I'm in the exact same situation and I haven't taken the leap to resign yet. This is a gentle reminder for me to walk away from something that was once upon my dream job but is now a nightmare
Absolutely! It’s not the easiest decision, I just hope you have a good support structure but what this has taught me is that when you’re in a positive mindset, you’ll attract positive opportunities.
This is very interesting content. I relate with a lot and am just about triggered to write a very long comment - but I'll keep it short as possible. I also resonate mostly with having both technical and creative drivers. On the technical side of things, I think I've found that (i) early on in consulting, the work can be quite monotonous because work like measuring and bill production are the starting points in a QS career - those skills sets are key in the rest of the work a QS will do. As you grow, you start working in other stages of the project (e.g. cost estimating, feasibility etc), you attend meetings where you actually engage people, you hopefully work on different types of projects (retail, commercial, residential etc) with different challenges (small/big, brownfield/greenfield, urban/rural etc) and different personalities (Clients and professional team), and I believe that starts to add variety to one's QS career (ii) I think that having a vision of an end goal helps keep the fire burning - for me, I decided that QS is the field I want to grow and be qualified in, but hopefully will branch out into other directions that my QS background would serve me well. For example, I have seen a few people leave technical QS and become developement managers/project managers for property developers, or work for insurers, work in dispute resolution etc - areas that lined up with their passions more, and required the skill sets of a QS to work in (iii) I've also seen a few creative people leave completely - at first, most tried to balance their creative work and technical work, but eventually jumped to creative and do some freelance work here and there, but are "full-time" creative. Guess its all about what works for who. Overall, thanks for sharing this vid and I wish you the best and am glad that you were able to successfully take a break and successfully re-enter the industry again ✌
Firstly I love this for you. Such a wholesome young lady, well rounded. Ive been in the “gig economy” or freelance for almost 3 years and I must say it is scary; however it has afforded me with so much freedom ( financially and flexibility). It’s important to understand your timing and know your why. In a nutshell there is no manual to this you just have to do what is best for you especially when you have the right support.
So I took most of the black tax so you can enjoy your money...hai 👏🏽. This is my favourite video. I didn't know you went through all that, I'm glad you chose to live. I love you
❤ such compassion for those that cannot leave their jobs for what ever reason. My break was pushed by the universe, our company eventually closed, that was the only time I could take a break.
Hey Thando, My name is Aobokoe Tsoerenyane. I'm currently studying for a BScHons in Quantity Surveying and I'm finding it difficult to find employment. You speak about freelancing I was wondering how can I be a freelancer if possible can you please help
Thank you for this video 🥺🥺 I'm still studying and I'm in Civil Engineering, this is one of those things I should expect and not be surprised when I find myself in🙏
Wow thank you so much for this video. i’ve been low-key depressed for about a week now and i didn’t know what was wrong with me. after watching this video i realized it’s bc i’ve been doing the exact same thing for the past 2 months and now i know exactly what i need to do to change this. Thank you thank you.
Such wealth in knowledge of self and growth. As a fellow Built Environment practitioner, I can echo some of the sentiments from my own not so extensive career. Thanks for sharing, truly valuable gems that you’ve dropped in this video. 👌🏾
I've never related to a video as much as I do to this. I'm currently in my career break right now after making the decision to leave a job that was no longer serving me. Thanks for making this video.
I love your videos so much 🥹I am doing my honours in QS and currently searching for work(which is not going well 😂but I know my God will make a way),,,just wondering, which part of quantity surveying would you recommend?
I totally understand what you went through. I quit my job as a junior civil engineering technician cos I felt overwhelmed and too much ☹🥺 But I love that you took that decision for yourself and your good mental health❤
This is a reminder that we should all be financially savvy so that when we feel we need a break, we can afford one.
"Monday scares" yoh I relate😭it'd be Saturday and I'm already anxious about Monday yoh God help me😭😭
I still get them 😭. But I've been practicing compartmelizing moments because if I worry about what's gonna come , is take away what's happening now. But I know it's easier said than done.
“If you are not changing it then you are choosing it.” … very profound.
We need learn to switch off as it takes over and you begin to dislike what you enjoy about your work. Thanks for sharing your story
I am grateful the algorithm pushed me this video! You seem like such a wonderful, kind, vibrant personality. Hello to SA from the UK

You really needed a break. It happens to the best of us, take your time to revitalise yourself and re-adjust your goals.
New subbie! Still catching up on your previous videos!
Great content🥂
