Hi MMD really enjoying your videos , glad i found you and sue on utube . I agree with what you said about this hotel ive stayed in a few shearings places although good enough to get your head down they are all much the same, they are in need of some TLC . Great videos of beautiful places to ride , keeping me sane in lockdown .
Enjoying your series of vlogs immensely but episode 5 took me back to Dornoch in 1981. I was staying at the Dornoch hotel for three months (I was working in the area) and let me assure you both that the same chef works their. I only guess this as the food was as bland then as it appears to be now. The hotel was tired then and forty years on doesn’t seem to have changed. I’ll be doing the NC500 in April if and when Boris gets his finger out and I think I’ll stay at The Castle hotel and visit what was 40+ years ago my local, The Eagle. Just noticed the lovely reg plates xxx very nice. You two are so lovely. I enjoy your search for the important things in life....comfort and good food. Very much after my own heart x stay safe out there
Lucky you to have partner riding her own bike and a looker as well. Have ridden this route many a time there are some great roads away from the coast with nice scenery . Have a save trip .
Thanks Peter! Really fortunate that Sue decided she didn't want to pillion anymore and wanted her own ride! It makes the trips different and more enjoyable. You're right about the roads - stunning!
It really only takes two to make a good time. :))) I have really enjoyed the series, All the coffee stop notes are in my NC500 route.. go juice stops for the car and go juice stops for Me.. :))) thankyou from Dave and Paula..
Evenings like the one in the Dornoch Hotel, helped along by a few beers, are what you will always remember. I would have loved to have been there and joined in the singing with you!!

Bettyhill Hotel very friendly place it's one of the checkpoints on the Scottish National Rally. After meeting the 2017 winner of the National Road Rally (Eric Clapton) at Leicester in July 2018 he walked into the bar at Bettyhill Hotel while i was having a meal. Then in 2019 at Leicester again we found we were parked next to each other in the car park. Have to agree with you Scotland is stunning and i am hoping to get back up there again this year. Ride Safe.
we also ate at same resturant in Helmsdale (my dad lived there for a while). funny story, i tried to pay our bill with credit card but they only do cash so I walked down street to SPAR to bank machine. The waitress must have thought I was skipping the bill. on return paid bill and gave a big tip, they probably thought crazy tourists!! LOL
Now you can say you’ve seen Scotland in it’s true light 😉, I know the previous day was a long one for you both it’s unfortunate that you didn’t get to visit Castle Mey and it’s gardens allegedly the Queen mother’s favourite residence
We went in May too but because there’s not a lot of hotels on the route and we planned our route very carefully it made sense to minimise any stress 😀 having said that, lots if people decide to camp or find out of the way b&bs.
