    I like how people are saying this is simple and any engineering student can make this. This guy literally sat down in his chair and throughly explained everything in detail with no google or anything. His level of understanding is what makes him so brilliant especially back in the day.

      Yep. People will always say that when someone explains anything thoroughly enough. I can't recall how many times in class I watched a professor do something insanely complicated and have them explain it well then think to myself "this is easy, I totally can do this," only to have it kick my ass later. 99% of the time when someone says that about something they've not done before, they are bullshitting themselves.

      Any student can probably make a simple OS. But it's not gonna be anything to write home about. Temple OS is leagues above anything an average CS student can create after an OS programming course. Idiotic. The space exploration and discovery is extremely valuable; it is also very cheap. Also, did you know that humans can multitask? You don't have to dedicate our entire species to a single goal or project you know. A very large portion of environmental and recycling technologies come from what was created from space flight and travel. Which benefits our entire species.

      This is false. He was smart, but his OS was not all that impressive. He was doing things that people learned how to do decades ago. The only reason it seems extremely impressive is because his schizophrenic mind led to an incomprehensible OS. This isn't genius, it's obfuscated.

      @@derekirish5121 Look at Vivaldi who was almost completely forgotten after his death, and is now regarded as one of the greatest composers of the baroque era. Look at Van Gogh. There are a lot of cases when people who were out of the ordinary and were not appreciated because it was not in the 'zeitgeist'. It took a change of generation (or 20 generations in Vivaldi's case) to appreciate their greatness. And in the internet nothing is ever truly gone.
      For example, if there comes a time when computer programs can be regarded as a sort of art, Terry will be regarded as an avant-garde artist way ahead of his time, and perhaps a founder of a genre. It's not something that I can speculate on coherently because today there's nothing like a museum for well written programs (as an example).

      GTA physics engine is HAVOK, a program like simstructure requires quite a lot of CPU usage for math calculations to be as realistic as possible, meanwhile GTA doesn't makes the same amount of calculations because cpu must do other things (logic, AI, rendering, etc) so to prevent all the workload beign heavily bottlenecked to the cpu the physics calculations may have be already pre calculated or just "nearly as accurate" physics, also take in mind PS4 and Xbox One consoles gen had a weaker cpu compared to Cell PS3 so from GTA IV to V the physics were downgraded thanks to that cpu generation being weaker.

    • @Wingnut353
      @Wingnut353 7 месяцев назад +2

      @@doomslayer8985 PS4 isn't weaker than Cell.. Cell only has 1 normal CPU, PS4 has 8 full fleded CPUs while the extra CPUs on cell are only coprocessors. Most of the calculations for HAVOK could also be offloaded to the GPU, the reason GTA V physics are worse is developers are lazy.

He's a testament to how powerful passion and purpose are in a person's life. I've met some incredibly intelligent people that I imagine have 140-160+ IQ, but likely won't achieve anywhere near the amount Davis did, because they lacked the conviction Davis has kept alive for most his life.
      It's saddening to see him go and know that outside of him programming his life was abysmal, but he found his reason to live. Nietzsche said that "He who has a why to live for can bear almost any how." and Davis is the most perfect evidence of that being true.
