I done kept up wit Emonis basketball journey since seeing him randomly on Instagram back in 2016, to see him rise to stardom in HS, and skip his senior year to play D1 basketball is insane, then he went to Memphis and averaged 10 ppg not bad for a HS Senior, but still scrutinized. Next year goes crazy at EMU but still getting doubted, and despite all the adversity he got drafted by the Cavs and balled out and won the summer league championship, great start to his career. It feels good seeing someone u seen for a long time grow into their own
I’m a cleveland fan and I’ve been following Emoni for a few years now. I’m glad we got him but I do think he needs some time to develop. I would be absolutely shocked if he started over Max Strus at any point this year barring injuries. I think at best next year would be the year he sees some real time on the floor. For now he’s going to need to develop in the g league
I heard about him and this video was good to have a better understanding about this young man. He finally made it to the NBA so I'm hoping to see his growth. Should have been a 1st round pick so he will have chip on shoulder.

Definitely, he’s a very natural scorer and can easily be the steal of the draft considering how highly of a light he was seen at, at one point of his career

I saw a number of Emoni's games on RUclips, etc. including that game vs. Holmgren. Saw him on ESPN in the summer league, too... My take is that he can surely score, but he is not very good on the other end of the floor for a high prospect. He'll need to improve quite a bit on D to realize his otherwise rather obvious potential.
Forsure, I feel he has defensive potential especially with his size and hand-eye coordination. We seen him get a number of chase-down blocks and passing lane steals in the summer league.
That’s total Skip Bayless nonsense - Bates is a TREMENDOUS shot blocker at his position and has phenomenal lateral movement. His one one one D is solid as He can push ball handlers left and right. He’s not a super rebounder, but he’s not poor either.
He either should have stayed at Memphis, or transfered to a program like UK, Kansas, Duke, or UNC. He seemed like he couldn't adjust to the college game to well, and I think had he stayed patient he could have been drafted higher.
When I heard he went what, 49th? I said “this dude done had an NBA skill set in middle school. He was taller than the average NBA player IN MIDDLE SCHOOL, and had that DAWG in him already. With an adult frame at what, 20? I wouldn’t CARE about Memphis or the crime charge. If we can just get him - listen to how crazy this sound - if we could just get him back to his EIGHTH GRADE FORM, he’s at LEAST a roll player on an active ROSTER! How does one everyone pass on that in the first round??!
