Persimmon is super popular in winter here in Italy. In order not to get a dry mouth you need for it to be completely ripe! Otherwise it’s the most unpleasant thing to eat ;) also if you cut the pit in half (don’t eat it, it’s poisonous!) you’ll find a thingy in the shape of a tiny piece of cutlery (either fork knife or spoon), it’s so funny and odd hahaha

I was surprised that you haven't seen passionfruits. We grow them and lots of other tropical fruits here in Australia especially up North. Yours are, in fact, less ripe. The more purple, the less ripe. The more wrinkly and brown the sweeter the pulp. Sometimes they dry up inside if you wait too long though 😂
The shell is not edible. We put it on pavlova during christmas. It's nice mixed into yoghurt because you get the flavour but not the seed texture.
I think fruit is way overrated lol

I’m Salvadoran and my family fried them but you have to wait till they’re very ripe, cut it in half and then 2 or 3 times long ways and then fry them in a pan, it’s sweet and my family actually eats it with sour cream and retried beans and fried eggs for breakfast, not mixed all together but I had them all the time growing up

Here in Oklahoma we use Persimmons to predict the weather haha it's just an old wives tale but it's fun! If you cut the seed in half length ways look at the shape of the root inside. A knife shape means the winter is going to be really cold and sharp--it'll cut through you like a knife. A spoon means you'll be shoveling snow. A fork means it'll be a mild winter.

Girls, did you know that you can tell what kind of winter you'll have from looking at the inside of a persimmon? They have little black seeds and if you cut it in half from top to bottom not through the side, once opened look at the seeds off they form a spoon it's going to be a very cold winter and if it resembles a fork it's going to be mild winter.

Wait, passionfruit is not a common thing there??? They are really common here in Australia. Heck, we even used to have them growing on our back fence when growing up. I live in Sydney and people have passionfruit vines all around here. I never knew they were uncommon in other countries.
Most of these fruits are regularly seen in Australian supermarkets, like Coles or Woolworth. I guess that's one of the joys of being in a relatively temperate or tropical climate as well as our proximity to Asia. We got married in May, which is autumn here and many of our photos were taken around the Persimmon trees which were full of fruit at that time. By the next week, the flying foxes had stripped the trees bare. They really like their Persimmons!

I feel like fruits are always more flavorful when eaten locally (probably because they pick them early to get them to last longer). Star fruit is always better when I have it in Hawaii rather than when I buy it in the store in Washington where I live.

Passionfruit has great tangy flavor but less than great texture (slimy) and dragon fruit has great texture but fairly bland flavor. I like to mix them together to have with my vanilla yogurt. I've had the misfortune of eating an under ripe persimmon of the type you had. I like the Fuyu variety, it can be eaten at any time without fear of cotton mouth.
