Holy cow, I never knew Buddy was such a pistol! Of course his skins skills are legendary, but here he is doing comedic banter with Johnny Carson and Don Rickles and - never mind holding his own - he's the coolest guy on the whole stage! The great entertainers aren't just great at their thing. They're great at everything.
Buddy was so humble that he must be the very epitome, the very essential definition of what is humility....... :) -- Buddy didn't take any prisoners.....ha ha.....
See this is where you see the ‘charisma’ of the man. Oh sure he was super-human in his playing and demanded perfection from himself and others, and delivered that. But he was flat out cool .
Never again will we see genius talent talent like this. Today's Tonight Show with Fallon & company may be going for a younger audience, but it's PURE JIT compared to these twentieth century giants!
Buddy Rich (Nueva York, 30 de septiembre de 1917 - Los Ángeles, 2 de abril de 1987) fue un baterista estadounidense de jazz, representante del swing, bop y, en general, del jazz de las big bands.
John Byner seems to be really disconnected from what's going on. Maybe jealous of the attention Rickles has been getting? Two comedians on the same show, maybe not a great idea.
Don Rickles always wants to be the head comedian it seems in a situation like this. He had gone on this show several times with one or more other comedians and everything was fine. But Byner definitely just didn't fit in there. Not the same league.
Probably thought Rickles was annoying as fuck, which he was. Sometimes, you are just not funny. Rickles has had better moments. Rickles could be hilarious at times, but he was a one-trick-pony with his insults. There are many comedians I would rather listen to besides Rickles.
Rickles is flat out annoying here, leaning over his arm chair screaming at Johnny and Buddy. His jokes were not hitting either. Sometimes, even though you are a well respected comedian, you need to STFU. I do not blame Byner, I would have wanted to get off of that stage ASAP.
John Byner's funny. Rich and Rickles are a bit loud and annoying so when Rickles says, "come on, Jon, we're leaving!" as he walks off with Rich, Jon does not move an inch from his seat. It's almost as if he said, "will you sit the fuck down and just listen to the interview!"
I like at 01:37 with Buddy Rich being his usual asshole, unfunny self, then Johnny rips him a new one as only he could do, and Buddy doesn't even realize it (Rickles sure gets it though).
I love the background photo of the farm in winter with snow on the ground.
Thanks for posting! Buddy is fantastic for sure. Cathy was such a stunner. She's still beautiful to this day.
I saw Buddy play less then 8 weeks before this...in Michigan......

Johnny admired Buddy highly
and was a drummer himself.
I do enjoy the old episodes of the Tonight Show.
Love that show back in that day , buddys daughter is beautiful
A lot of people don't know this but Johnny Carson played drums. He also loved Buddy Rich and looked up to him as a fellow percussionist.
it is lovely,
thanks for posting
+Aleksandr Conseque your'e welcome, glad you like it....
Thanks for this. Much appreciated. Between you and Cloudview747, I've been in Buddy Rich heaven the past few weeks.
+erzug A nice place to be....

Ha ha ha Buddy's ashing all over the floor. A he's Buddy Rich. The King of Swing
Buddy Rich, really had a pretty daughter!🥁😍
Important to remember that Buddy and Johnny were close friends. The ball busting is all in fun.
Quite possibly the only time in his life Don Rickles met his match.
Damn.. Buddy was a freakin cool guy..
Buddy was so humble that he must be the very epitome, the very essential definition of what is humility....... :) -- Buddy didn't take any prisoners.....ha ha.....
Johnny always seemed totally frazzled when Buddy Rich was on, and yet he had him on over and over again!
Because Carson was extremely nervous about what to talk about. Buddy would control the conversation
Actually, they were good friends. Johnny had Buddy on so much because they were both drummers.
See this is where you see the ‘charisma’ of the man. Oh sure he was super-human in his playing and demanded perfection from himself and others, and delivered that. But he was flat out cool .
Great Video, Damn I sure miss the Tonight show and Johnny Carson. Seems as if Cathy's song was cut out?

AWESOME!
Just heard a homage to Suzy cream cheese. Didn’t know if Zappa and Rich ever hung out however it’s quite plausible
I love Don Rickles
Best drummer ever
Jeez, John Byner was a stiff that night.

As soon as the “can’t read” comment, the distraction begins.
You Buddy Rich remind me of what a bartender. Mr. Carson had to be
Carson kinda reminds me of Bush Junior when he gets that smirk going.
Nice to see Buddy's wit and charm rubbed off on Cathy. lol
Since Johnny's trying to quit, there's no ashtray. So Rich is flicking his ashes on the carpet. Haha.
Good hairpiece 👌😃
Lol look at Johnny's comb over
Classic 70's Adult humor 1:30
Rich was a master.....and a bastard as well. Sometimes that goes hand in hand.
no shortage of ego here!
If there is anybody who could keep Buddy in check it would be Don Rickles and/or Buddy's daughter.

I believe He was quite drunk.

I think iui ts the Captain from CHIPS
john byner appears to be having a lousy time.

Buddy was unabashed and blunt. I wouldn't doubt for a minute a lot of his feuds with Sinatra were probably instigated by Buddy being a smartass. lol
Buddy Rich thinks he's Robin Williams. If you look up ignorant in the dictionary his picture should be there.
yeah, i know. Robin wasn't that funny. Maybe they did some lines of coke before the show, Ha.
ha ha ha nice switch.
You do know Buddy was doing this for years before Robin right?
I agree. Williams was ignorant.
It seems no-one wanted to interact with Buddy so they placated him... great talent, but Buddy no mates...

They loved to take jabs at each other..
His daughter kind of looks like pat benatar.. and that actress from fast times at ridgemont high
She does look like Pat Benatar.
Back when the tonight show was good. It’s garbage now.
cathy rich, overdressed much?
