It’s not like this was a major protest on my part, more of a subconscious decision to say I don’t care about these stories and am getting that fix somewhere else and better. This is all coming from a guy who’s been watching AEW since 2019, watched Dark, watched Rampage, watched Collision, bought all the PPVs etc. It’s just not the company I fell in love with anymore. Hopefully they can turn it around in 2025.
The absolute worst thing about it was, not only the "was that it?" But Punk was then chanted on the show 😂 They aired it to try and embarrass Punk, when everything he pretty much said in the interview happened as he said in the interview. It ended with the crowd cheering the competition. The reason AEW airing the backstage footage was the worst thing for the company is because it proved Punk right. Instead of contradicting his interview and showing him as a liar, it showed how truthful he was in the interview, and if he was truthful about the most controversial thing in the interview you can assume he was truthful about the rest of what he said. Combine that with it showing Tony's "life fearing" statement to be complete hyperbole, and you have a recipe that uppends the narrative pushed by tony, the bucks, and meltzer. You proved to us you cant trust AEW because they lie to you, but you can trust Punk because he's honest.

Airing the All In footage was an unmitigated disaster. All it did was prove Punk largely right. There's a short on here, where the audio from Punk's interview with Ariel Helwani plays over the footage and it comes off like Punk is doing play-by-play. Apparently this is what made Tony Khan fear for his life. TK got his feelings hurt by Punk breaking his silence on it, and caused so much damage to AEW, a company I actually prefer over the increasingly sanitised WWE (Who are to wrestling, what Disney is to animation, or playboy is to pornography). It bummed me out when the incident happened followed by Punk being gone, and airing the footage cast a cloud over things, too. No, the Young Bucks as EVPs for yet another heel authority figure angle, and "Scapegoat Jack Perry" was IN NO WAY worth it. I came round in it all to play a lot of money to see All In this year and I had a blast, but AEW frustrates me at times.
Oh yeah, Punk is so right for starting a physical fight backstage for the second time. That's what all the people who are right do! Happens almost every show, people fighting backstage. Just a normal part of the business.
After all in almost everything AEW has just been straight up frustrating and bad, I’m not gonna sit here and act like I prefer AEW because WWE sanitized or not has put out some damn good stuff this year, but hell swerve became by far my favorite wrestler since around wrestledream 2023 but it’s just been outright sad to see AEW have such a fall from grace
@@jakeey0 Umm would imagine the OP saying it proved Punk right has nothing to do with him thinking it was right of Punk to start anything. And more so that it just proved Punks side of the story was right . And that they aired it to try and get back at Punk and hurt him somehow which only way that would've happened is if Punk did a hell of a lot more during that little scuffle. But instead that was never the case and all showing the footage did was hurt AEW in a major way in both ratings and attendance.
That masked guy is trying too hard to be a know-it-all. Not putting that embarrassing footage by AEW at #1 is just ridiculous. They love to DRAG so much out as long as possible, whether it is needed or not. Also Hunter LOVES to just repeat the same stories and plot beats over and over and over again endlessly.
Tempest being such an unbelievable mark is one of the cringiest things about him, fourth only to his dumb name, his lame mask, and just him in general, like as a person.
Showing the Brawl In footage, while I do believe it weirdly helped Jack Perry, was an embarrassing moment that did not help AEW at all Jay White/Billy Gunn is still the worst wrestling thing to happen this year that’s not Vince related tho
This was somehow worse than Hogan Russo bash at the beach 2000. At least both were employed by the company. Brawl in telecast killed the integrity of AEW forever.
@ in early AEW absolutely, but since the 4 pillars world title program I think the Jungle Boy character was dying out. Early scapegoat was kinda cool tbh, Perry’s match at Windy City Riot had good heat and that was a few days after airing the footage
The main issues with the All In footage being shown are, they showed it off and proved that Punk was right with what he said, they popped a rating and it's been downhill since and most importantly, they wasted valuable T.V time on someone that wasn't even with the company anymore and they weren't going to see any benefits moving forward. T.V time that Punk himself has said, that people over in AEW don't understand the true value of, so they proved him right again.

Before that Punk footage, I would watch AEW religiously. I watched Dark, Dark Elevation, and even Rampage, all when I had time. When it came to Dynamite, I would carve out 2 hours on a Wednesday to watch it from start to finish, without fail. Barring some extenuating circumstance like going out for drinks or whatever, I'd watch Dynamite live, every week, and watch it the next day if I couldn't. The episode with the Punk footage was the first episode that I willingly stopped watching in the middle of the show, _since I began watching AEW,_ and an episode I did not go back to rewatch. I was--and still am--appalled at the fact that TK thought that was a good idea.
I have no idea why they didn’t just wait to call up some of the incredible women they have in NXT to introduce the mid card belt. Whacking it on Roxanne Perez should’ve been the move and would’ve established her immediately
There's plenty of talent already on the main roster, they've just not been used well enough in the past which is what the mid card belts should hopefully help with.

I think the problem with Liv's reign isn't really her fault. She can have good matches (and has), but the switch up to a cowardly heel is not her style. It's awful. She was much better at the start of the year. Some of these problems are tied to how HHH books Rhea like a god. As for Nia... uh... she was also better in the first half of the year. I'm not sure what happened with her fall off either. The women's division has largely been a problem since HHH took over. Not even Rhea's reign was good. The best reign he's booked is Jade and Bianca's second reign (that should've never been split into 2 reigns). Shawn books his women's division way better with much less time.

I think making the Young Bucks and Jack Perry the main characters of the show for a large part of the year also contributed to pushing people away, especially in combination with showing the Punk footage.
That didn't push me away. I mean, I rolled my eyes with the Punk footage, but what turned me away was the abysmal booking for All In this year. That's when I tapered off, and stopped watching.
@@DJ-Krimson-Steele Oh yeah to be clear, I'm not saying it's the sole reason for the ratings decline this year. But as Oli and Luke said, there is ah extremely clear before and after. They basically killed their appeal for a large pary of their audience with that move by choosing alienate all AEW fans who liked both Punk and AEW. As Oli said, it made so many people quit AEW and watch WWE for the first time in so long (since 2017 for me). I only started watching full episodes again ahead of the ALL IN build when Bryan was slated to main event.
@@BigmanDogs You bring up good points, and I agree. I'm just saying, for me it took me a little longer before souring on AEW. If anything, I think I'm guilty of giving them the benefit of the doubt longer than I should have. It really wasn't until this year that I felt like I wasn't being listened to as a fan.
@@DJ-Krimson-Steele I personally actually enjoyed the MJF and Cole story in 2023. So them doing an awful retcon of it in 2024 and saying it all sucked makes me want to quit.
Also doesn't help that on that particular show, they followed up airing the footage with Will Ospreay coming out and responding to Triple H, commenting how Triple H is only in his position because he married Steph which jokes about Triple H marrying Steph got old 20 years ago now
Is this video “Tables, Lists & Chairs”, or is it “Tempest does a very bad Bryan Alvarez impression for 46 minutes.”?
Airing the All-In footage will be in a "Who Killed AEW" video, should AEW collapse, but "it's not in the top 10 worst things done by AEW, TNA or WWE" apparently? I know these lists are subjective, but Tempest not including the Punk footage at all is idiocy or being deliberately contrary.
Funny that Tempest left out that's arguably the worst and most damaging moment of AEW in 2024, which was the Punk footage proving him right.
I know right? And then he has the gaul to say "this isn't even in the same stratosphere as the worst things WWE and TNA have done this year. "
Like, really dude? You may not want to look at charts when you talk about wrestling, but there is evidence that that specific decision hurt them more than anything else hurt any other company.
But it didn't "prove him right." It proved he was the problem. I'm sorry, but you assault your coworker and threaten your boss. You are in the wrong and getting fired. It doesn't matter what Jack said to him. He assaulted someone who HE came up to.

From the AEW school of promo. Shouting and yelling means you’re super serial and really mean what you’re saying!
And at number 1: Tempest's false anger and constant yelling in an attempt to be funny.
Tempest is in denial bc airing that footage was the worst thing than WCW when Russo worked there. That was Tony being petty bc he was upset. Punk called him a clown and told everyone how he was treated. By Tempest saying thats not the worst thing AEW did all year is a lie, they have never recovered from airing it. Ik a lot of people who were die hard AEW fans who stopped watching bc of them airing that footge.
how old are you? have you seen WCW under Russo?

I'm sorry but Tempest looks unhappy from the very start in this video until the very end. I don't know if he's having a bad day but the mopey, pouting, disgruntled attitude was a real let down on this video. And near the end, Oli and Luke are talking at each other with no effort to involve Tempest because of it.
Tempest is actually insane not including the Punk footage.
The level of content has lowered since Pete left. He had an “Everyman” quality that balances out Tempest being a pain in the ass. Now we've just got Tempest yelling into a vortex of his own making whilst the other two guys are trying to carry the show.
I will go against the Uso match at Mania. Only because I was in the crowd and an 8 year old girl behind me kept screaming "Jimmy Uso, I hope you go into a coma" and "You are a you-know-what Jimmy Uso." And I will remember that for the rest of my life.
I love you Tempest, and I’m glad you/PartsFunknown are a part of the WrestleTalk family, but you know the All-In footage was a massive blunder for AEW. I don’t care how much you love AEW or hate Punk or whatever it is; you gotta put that aside. They popped a little rating, and then ratings started dropping, and still are.
“I don’t wanna look at charts when I talk about wrestling, I don’t care about ratings.” Dude, if thats what you want out of wrestling, that’s fine. That’s why we have videos games, action figures, and general Fantasy Booking. In the real world, for better or worse, wrestling is a BUSINESS. In particular, one that relies on viewership and fan engagement.
Again, I love you Tempest, but you won’t even look your boys in the eyes when you’re trying to say AEW airing the footage wasn’t bad. It was.
Tempest is unsympathetic, even annoying, a loud mouth and not funny or entertaining. Looking through the comment section I realized I am not the only one thinking that way. People should make their opinions be heard. Thats what the comment section is for.
Yeah not to pile on but tempest really does constantly come off as a self righteous prick. Like relax man we get you’re upset but at the end of the day you can’t book this better than the next guy
Tempest gives me Excalibur vibes and that is not a good thing. A pure mark for Mr Khan.

42:27 - Yes I still keep up with AEW on RUclips here and there, but I have not seen an episode of Dynamite or bought an AEW PPV since they released the All In 2023 Footage.
I type all those to say Tempest is a mark for not adding it on his list 🤣
The absolute worst thing about it was, not only the "was that it?" But Punk was then chanted on the show 😂
They aired it to try and embarrass Punk, when everything he pretty much said in the interview happened as he said in the interview. It ended with the crowd cheering the competition.
I haven't watched AEW since just after lockdown when I just needed a break from mostly live TV apart from football, and decided to watch films and old dramas. I don't think I'd turn back on again, now Netflix has WWE.
@@ryuhayabaker that’s fair. I was keeping up through the $10 AEW Plus service through a VPN, but now that they are on MAX and I already have that anyway I can see myself throwing on dynamite here and there, but I don’t know how invested I will be.

2/3 of this video was so fun! 1/3 wouldn't stop whining and yelling like a literal child.
I don't think TK fearing for his life was a hyperbole. I think that's how he genuinely felt. I doubt anyone can see an ounce of mental toughness in Tony Khan.
It also didn’t accomplish anything
@@thevoicelesswriter TK seems like a very soft character, im sure someone like Punk even could scare him easly.
@@thevoicelesswriter Yea wouldn't be shocking for that to be the case seeing how he's a sheltered rich boy. So could easily strike me as the type of person who sees a minor scuffle and instantly starts fearing for their own personal safety.

Not to say that WWE has been all good, I’m so done with almost every women’s storyline and this Solo vs Roman

I feel like Triple H (and Tony Khan somewhat as well frankly) sometimes do not understand the difference between a “long term storyline” and a storyline that is just taking a long time to tell. They love to DRAG so much out as long as possible, whether it is needed or not.
Also Hunter LOVES to just repeat the same stories and plot beats over and over and over again endlessly.

At least the Steiner math thing was funny lol
Showing the Brawl In footage, while I do believe it weirdly helped Jack Perry, was an embarrassing moment that did not help AEW at all
Jay White/Billy Gunn is still the worst wrestling thing to happen this year that’s not Vince related tho
The only person it actually helped was Drew McIntyre
This was somehow worse than Hogan Russo bash at the beach 2000. At least both were employed by the company. Brawl in telecast killed the integrity of AEW forever.
I think Perry was more over as babyface Jungle Boy.
@ in early AEW absolutely, but since the 4 pillars world title program I think the Jungle Boy character was dying out. Early scapegoat was kinda cool tbh, Perry’s match at Windy City Riot had good heat and that was a few days after airing the footage
While it may have helped Perry a bit that was undone by him getting easily handled by an injured Omega until the elite saved him
Pretty convinced that Tempest just hates wrestling. He is legitimately so angry in every video. Like, actual anger.
The issue AEW has is that every story is so over complicated with lots of twists and turns just for the sake of it.
Im happy everyone disagrees with tempest. This made him look very very bad.
I disagree with Oli, Mone was NEVER a babyface no matter how much the fans tried to force her to be.
The imprisonment of ricky starks should be on the list, it’s definitely worse than chad gable not going up the card, also tempest’s biases are becoming unbearable

As a giant Liv Morgan defender, I have been pretty disappointed that it feels like she's only allowed to have one feud.

All of these comments about Tempest from people who don’t own or even work for a media company are hilarious. “I don’t know what I’m talking about, but this guy didn’t say what I wanted him to say so he sucks!” 😂
